Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 Normally a body in the "tits up" position would elicit more of a positive response from me than this lineup does
DocTee Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 Glad we started a Magic Number thread in August
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 Tough to claim that we should have 8 runs with 8 singles scattered across 7 innings.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 I'm not really sure how catchers get involved in rundowns between first and second, or pitchers between third and home.Dat's not the way I was taught.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 No point in the catcher staying around the plate in that situation, nobody's running there any time soon.
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 Acuna with some strange base (non) running which leads to an interesting double lay to end the inning.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 Alvarez looks totally unprepared for the majors.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 At least they're putting up a good fight.

DocTee Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 Baty--Vientos--Alvarez.Not yet ML ready.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 =Fman99 post_id=109467 time=1664674261 user_id=86]As per the terrible Fox booth, the two of them combined line for yesterday and today is 11 2/3 IP, 14 H and 7 ER. There's no way that you'd say they held up their end.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 If the walk or hit-by-pitch ain't happening Cahna, let's see you reach by bunt.Let's not invest ourselves in swinging at compost in the ninth.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 So the length of time between 'what's taking them so long?' to 'he's not ready' is apparently six ABs
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 The Braves are going back to Jansen after 30-odd pitches last night. This is doable but, like the other night vs Miami, it's going to have to come out of nowhere.
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 Personally, I nevr called for any of them specifically be called up. For the most part Vientos seemed overmatched during his time. Alvarez appears overly eager. of the three, Baty appeared the most polished at the plate.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 Jansen pitched a lot last night and is probably tired. Which means the Mets will probably hit three weak grounders on three pitches.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 Canha's had a tough night/series.
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 The Mets need to get Jansen. Well, not like that. Cahna strikes out a pitch right down the middle.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 When was the last ball they got out of the infield? Two innings ago? Three?
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 Win tomorrow and they still control their own fate.
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 Welcome to second place. The Braves have out pitched and out hit the Mets the past 2 nights. The Mets better kick it into gear tomorrow.

DocTee Old-Timey Member Posted October 2, 2022 Posted October 2, 2022 Hard to win when the bottom half of your lineup goes 1-20.

That's clear. But this comment overlooks the nuance. The Mets could (should?) have called up prospects months ago to see what they could do and get them acclimated. 6 games of utmost importance is not the right spot for a MLB debut (or at least not for someone counted on to be a key contributor).
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted October 2, 2022 Posted October 2, 2022 I agree. They could have done this for the OAK games when they faced 3 LHPs but they were more concerned with giving Ruf every chance to succeed. If Ruf had gotten a few hits we wouldn't be having this conversation but he didn't and yet they didn't call up Alvarez for the MIA series. As a result, they are giving Alvarez his first ML ABs in the biggest games of the season. That's not on Alvarez, that's on management which gave (away) ABs to Nido and McCann all season long. ATL didn't call up Harris yesterday they called him up months ago.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 2, 2022 Posted October 2, 2022 I think you can also observe what prospects can do while they are in the minors. The lost opportunity here was giving up on J.D. Davis, but that ship has sailed and this is where the team is now.
Zach Thornton Syracuse Mets - AAA LHP On Sunday, the southpaw tossed five shutout innings as the bulk pitcher. He gave up 2 hits, walked 2 and had 5 strikeouts. Explore Zach Thornton News >
