In the last hour or so, the Mets released a https://www.mlb.com/mets/news/sandy-alderson-to-step-down-from-mets-postpublic statement announcing Sandy Alderson's leaving his role as president of baseball operations, effective upon the hiring of his successor in the role.

Steve Cohen states in the announcement that Alderson's appointment was always meant to be close-ended and that he was hired with a specific mandate that has now been put in place, and that Alderson will continue with the organization in a special advisor role.

My position is that (1) the Mets need to win it all this year if Sandy is going to make the Hall of Fame, and (2) they should hire me immediately.

Sooner, if possible.

if he was the grown-up in the room, he was the petulant child in the room the second time throwing a tantrum that he couldn't have his favorite sexual harasser (even though he did!)

I hope it's not his health either, I hope it's that Cohen's finally going to look for new (and that means not Point72) blood and thoughts and ideas, and that now that they have a GM that's gone half a year or so without embarrassing themselves, they can maybe give Eppler a little more free reign.

Spitballing a bunch of names I could imagine (though not necessarily endorse, certainly) as the next Mets PoBO:

  Bryn Alderson

  Billy Beane

  Leigh Castergine

  Donn Clendenon, Jr.

  Terry Collins

  Jon Daniels

  John DePodesta

  Billy Eppler

  Theo Epstein

  Davy Johnson

  J.P. Ricciardi

  David Stearns

  Adam Rubin

  Bobby Valentine

  David Wright

While I think that there's perhaps an 8% chance the next president is on this list, my guess from this pack would be Jon Daniels. Young, available, Queens-born, and has actual PoBO experience. I can't imagine a whole lot of folks could check three of those boxes, let alone four.

Also, the Mets have inquired about him in the past when he wasn't available, and he majored in economics and business admin at an Ivy. That's two or three more boxes, depending on your boxes.

Daniels was fired after 17 years in Texas and not delivering a winner.(Despite spending a lot of money)

And building a winning organization is the box I'd want to check first.

The opening is an administrative executive position, with both player development and business responsibilities. So I'm not sure if the baseball only candidates like Collins would be qualified.

I didn't know there was a Donn Clendenon, Jr. (I assume he's Donn Clendenon's son?) What's he been doing that would put him on this list?

Donn's a https://www.linkedin.com/in/donn-clendenon-1bb6261/developer/entrepreneur. He worked with The King Center for a number of years and he and MLK III joined with Ed Kranepool in putting together a losing bid for the team when the Wilpons/Katzes sold, marking Ed's second failed attempt to put together an equity group to control the team.

I don't think he's probably a great candidate. Most of his success seems to be in flipping. I was just up late and threw him in as an outside-baseball-but-connected type of name.

This seems like it would be the first consequential move of the offseason. The Mets sought to hire David Strearns from Milwaukee before but were denied permission. I didn't know Daniels was available. I think both guys are Mets fans.
