Phil Mushnick is generally insufferable and I think his audience is other 70-year-olds yelling at the clouds. But this was pretty funny.

Although we by now know Rob Manfred, as short of foresight, blinded by anyone waving money in his face, we still can't figure how he'd allow the Home Run Derby outfield to be packed with 10-year-olds in the paths of line drives smashed off 70 mph tosses.

Do the kids sign waivers? Or does a kid catching one in the head become a 6-1 payoff DraftKings prop bet?

Did he just discover that there are kids in the outfield? Does he understand physics at all? Did someone give him some prozac so he briefly came out of a blind rage enough to glimpse a moment of baseball of the last 40 years and kids in the outfield of the HRD is what he saw?

It's absurd that anyone let that guy have more than a 15 second rant on the worst WFAN show.

I didn't know Mushnick was still around. I don't visit the tabloid sites

because of the gaudy and intrusive advertising and general suckiness.

I haven't flipped though an actual Snooze or Post in god knows how long.

He's an asshole, always has been. But I guess he's an institution. Good

for him still drawing a pay check, gotta be like 40 years now.

I've never watched Home Run Derby, so forgive my ignorance.

Are there really a bunch of ten-year-olds milling about in the outfield during the Derby?

Why are they there? And if they're really there, why is Mushnick out of touch to suggest that they might be in danger?

they catch the balls that don't go out. I can't recall who they are, family, local little league, etc. But it's not like they're bumbling toddlers and it's not like there's much risk of real injury 300+ feet from home plate. I could probably do the physics if I thought about it, but it's been going on for decades and it's not like we have injuries piling up out there.

I wonder if he was anti expanded netting. I could see him being, and it'd be quite hypocritical.
