This is diabolical, and I feel like answering that question-- requires answering one or two others.... who was closing for the Cubs that season? Or what year was it when the MFYs shit the bed? Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 25, 2022 Author Posted July 25, 2022 You've got the right guy!Felipe Vazquez, whose nickname was "Nightmare," lived up to it in the worst way, and though the only organization he currently represents is the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, by the time his career screeched to a hault in 2019, he was fifth all-time in saves by a Venezuelan guy.We can actually cross a second guy off our list also, because since this quiz started, Martin Perez has added a win to his career total, giving him sole possession of 10th place on the win list. Falling off the list and out of our kwiz is Carlos Silva, who amazingly once threw 188 1/3 innings in a season, giving up 25 homers, but only nine walks.Sharpie did the hard part coming up with Vazquez. Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 22, 2022 Author Posted August 22, 2022 Maybe Yoervis Medina?I apologize for having missed this guess at the time. Yoervis Medina totaled two saves, which ties him for fortieth among Venezuelan MLB-ers, along with ex-Met Luis Avilán, among others.Remember that the guy we are looking for played with the Cubs, Astros, and Diamondbacks, doing his most damage with the Cubs, and pitched in the post-season five straight years. Yoervis Medina, mostly a Mariner, saw no post-season action. We've also established that the guy we're looking for pitched against the Mets in the post-season.I'll add that his team advanced to play the Mets in the post-season only after he saved the series clincher in the previous playoff round.Venezuelan Winners 1.
