I was just visiting https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/NYM/2022.shtmlBaseball Reference's Mets statistics page (they still don't have last night's game or box score posted; hence the delay in Schaefer voting) and was looking at the array of "Top 12 Players". I noticed that I was able to identify all twelve faces, and wondered if I'd still know all these guys ten years from now.

So... as a test, I decided to look back ten years to see how I would do. One thing led to another and I leaped, ten years at a time, all the way back to 1962.

Here's how I did:

2022: I correctly identified all twelve players.

2012: Nine

2002: Six

1992: Ten

1982: Nine

1972: Twelve

1962: Five

Give it a try and let us know how well you did!

They look like catalog models for tightiy whities in the 70's (to me).

To me it's just a case that all white people look the same.

That was fun!

I'm kinda all over the place.

2022: 12 of 12

2012: 11 of 12

2002: 9 of 12

1992: 10 of 12

1982: 5 of 12

1972: 7 of 12

1962: 1 of 12 (though I should have known 2 and kicked myself when I saw who it was).

Tanana, Tanana, diamonds on the soles of her shoes.

I'm sure I'd do better the further back I go. I came up blank on Lindor because he had normal colored hair in the 2022 photo.

Perfect 12 on the '62s. Recognized all of 'em instantly, with not a micro-second of hesitation.

Here's a trick/hint: On BBref, the players appear in their photos wearing the uni and cap of the team they played the most games for.

I'll do the rest later. (/brag)

Perfect 12 on the '72's, too, just as easy as the 10 years before pics. This is, so far, eeezy peezy. Zvon woulda scored perfect 12s on the 60s and 70s, too. Me and him are/(were) goddamn experts on early Mets photos, especially from the 60s. (/brag).

Of course, these are photos of the highest WAR ranked Mets for that season, in descending order. I mean, if it wasnt a top 12 WAR list ... if they threw in a picture of Larry Foss, for example, I might've gotten stumped.

Fun game!

Spoiler Alert below: If you haven't played this fun game yet, don't read

____________________________________________________________

_____________________________________________________________

Notes: 12- Guessed Parnell was Davis, then saw Davis. Forgot about Gee's bearded period even though at one time it was quote distinctive

02- Shocked that G Roberts ever made a top-10 war list, way off the radar.

92- Wouldn't know Scofield if he moved next door

82- ashamed to have whiffed on Neil Allen--not surprised I missed Holman

72- cake

62-had I studied his hat would have gotten CC; but was trying to read left to right and at first glance

A few good guesses based on other team hats on the 62 & 72 crew.

Lots of "THAT guy was in our top 12?!?!" moments, too.

I have no intention of participating in a leader-board event so you

can remove me... as I abstain, courteously.

I'm very disappointed in the 1989 Mets for allowing Mark Carreon to slip into their top 12.

Mid-season trades, mid-season injuries and half-hearted transitions led to a lot of partial seasons on that team.
