Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 29, 2022 Posted May 29, 2022 It's really nice to see Plummer come through there. He's the most recent in the now-seemingly annual off-season move of the Mets identifying a minor-league free agent with no MLB experience and going big by signing him to a major league contract. It's a really interesting flanking maneuver, and this is the first time we see it pay dividends. Also, Nick's a real name. Nick's your buddy. Nick's the kind of guy you can trust. The kind of guy you can drink a beer with. The kind of guy who doesn't mind if you puke in his car. Nick!

I don't worry about my job. I've got to do my job. It's the business of being a manager. I don't worry about it."Phil's payroll is 230m and they're 10.5 games back on memorial day

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 30, 2022 Posted May 30, 2022 The best part is that was pretty much the tone at the beginning of Buck's press scrum after the game. Mike Puma: Did you consider pinch-hitting for Plummer there? Buck Showalter: With who? Puma: Elliot? Showalter: ELLIOT?!

Though having said that how many more times do we have to play the f'cking phillies - only 6 times in August - so maybe we could use them having a little fire in their bellies for the next few months. SACK GIRARDI NOW
roger_that Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2022 Posted May 30, 2022 I hate Girardi, not only for being ex-Yankee trash, but because he utters such piffle and crap all the time. Last night, they had him on the air and asked about his team's defensive shortcomings, and he didn't even validate the question, just gave them a load of crap about "believing" in his team, "feeling sure" that they'd improve, etc. until I reached through my TV screen and strangled him.Well, I tried to. Didn't work out so well for my TV or for me.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 30, 2022 Posted May 30, 2022 I think the DH is (a solution looking for a problem) also.Creates far more issues than it solves, and if you don't think it through, you might think it would seemingly shorten games, except any examination of the evidence suggests it does the opposite.

I can kind of sort of almost live with the DH. The Manfred Man is a solution looking for a problem.
Chad ochoseis Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2022 Posted May 30, 2022 I think it was shortening game time, which is silly. The problem is that it takes too long to play 9 innings, not that there are too many extra innings. More baseball = good.
roger_that Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2022 Posted May 30, 2022 It also kinda wrecks baseball stats--the reason that innings per game works out so close to "9" is that all the rain-shortened games, and home team victories, are balanced by all the extra-inning games. Now, not so much.
roger_that Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2022 Posted May 30, 2022 It's really horrible, innit? Empty, foolish remarks all night long, no insight, chitchat, filler, stupid 'how does it feel to be you' interviews while the game is going on. OTOH, it's almost the only way i can watch MLB.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2022 Posted May 30, 2022 "That ball had an expected batting average of .510."A stupider sentence was never spoken.
