Late report is that Buck will miss tomorrow's game for a medical procedure, but is expected to be back by Thursday. No word on who will run the show, but usually the bench coach is the default pick, and it's not clear if Sherlock will be available either.

So, Cora?

Not a lot of managing going on in the DH league. the front office can hand in a lineup card and let the pitching coach decide when his guys are done, no interaction with the hitting side needed

"What do you want to do next, Skip?"

"I'll be right back."

"Where are you going?"

"To the tunnel to check the Crane Pool IGT on my phone to see what to do next."

"Brilliant!"

They could hire Tim McCarver on a one day contract.

It would be a fitting way to honor him.

And he always felt he could manage better than the guys actually doing it.

So why not?

It might be fun.

It's true that in-game managing is a less authoritative act when playing 10-man baseball. And I imagine Buckles turned over a lineup card to his lieutenants before he punched out, but it's still interesting to me who gets to wear the hat.

Nobody officially appointed to the role. The only thing the pre-game press reports are offering (at least, with regard to what I'm seeing) is that Chavez is in charge of the hitters, and Hefner the pitchers.

The two sides of the game are certainly far more distinct in the DH era, but somebody has to technically be the guy, right? Somebody has to sign the lineup card and call for replay reviews and lodge protests and shit.

That's some series of battlefield promotions for Dick Scott, going from a don-dugout role to bench coach to tri-manager in a few days. And I'm gonna bet he's the first among equals and it's his signature on the lineup card.
