Fangraphs is both fun and depressing.

Since 2001, the NYM Bullpen ranks:

-20th in Wins

-4th in Losses (ie 4th most Losses credited to a reliever in the past 20 years behind only Tampa, Colorado, and Florida)

Gary,: "...but Jefferey [Maier] was able to catch it"

NO! HE! DIDN'T! GARY

Don't You go spreading the bullshit too!

It went off his glove, then rolled down the aisle and was handed to him while the MFYs treated him like a hero for something which would have gotten him thrown out of the stadium had he done it in the other half inning.

And Bartman didn't reach across the railing.

And Jeter didn't dive into the stands to make the catch.

A lot of Mets-Phillies games seem to be like this since that "Damn Game".

That one was at least borderline.

The Maier thing has been replayed a few thousand times AND NOT ONE PERSON who speaks into a sports mic for a living seems to notice that HE DID NOT CATCH THE BALL.

But they all say he did because I guess that makes the story better ... it also makes it wrong-er.

The embarrassing here is that Gary is in that club too.

4:04 was your final game time.

That's another one that bugs me!

Can't count how many times over the last 20 years I've seen a player ACTUALLY dive into the stands for a catch only to immediately hear, "Oooh, look at that, just like Jeter".

No, Go watch the film Sparky. What you just saw was nothing like Jeter.

Bartman I don't think reached over the imaginary line between the fans and the field and if he did it wasnt by much - Bartman's crime was aiding the opposition - Just as Brady Anderson almost certainly catches the Maier ball, Alou catches the Bartman ball if Bartman just puts his hands down the only difference between them is that Bartman aided the road team where as Maier aided the home team he was rooting for.

If Bartman had been a Marlins fan visiting Chicago he could have been the most celebrated man in Florida history and maybe even had a lawsuit against the Cubs after they booted him.

Many people state as a matter of fact that Bartman reached onto the field of play.

Beyond that, (a) Alou made a heck of an effort but I don't think the evidence suggests he was reeling that one in*, and probably not even touching it, and (B) that was 2021 Mets first base coach Tony Tarasco underneath that Derek Jeter warning track fly ball.
