Are you referring to Nolan Ryan? He was at the WS anniversary celebration but was not at the final game at Shea.

Small correction, the Mariners did in fact have an issue with Cano's 24 wearing request. Same reason when Rickey Henderson joined the M's following his Met release in 2000.



That number was unofficially mothballed as soon as Griffey Jr was traded to Cincy, only to be issued when he returned briefly in 2009-2010, before being officially following his HOF induction in 2016.



So Cano wore 22 in his time in Seattle, 2014-2018, and Rickey was #35 in Seattle.

His daughter posted a few weeks ago that he'd be appearing at Old Timers Day, and I thought, why??? A guy who only pitched three games for the Mets? But it was clearly a great decision. A great thing for the fans, and a great thing for his children and grandchildren.

I had some niggling nits to pick about OTD, because I'm a horrible person, but I promised myself I wouldn't mention it until the giddiness passed.

Amazing that this fringe Met whose entire MLB career consisted of three IP's stole the show at OTD. Some feel-good story. Dillon quit baseball after being demoted to the minors, citing low minor league wages. He worked as a salesman at Howard's Clothes in the Bronx, a big sponsor of the Mets throughout the 60s.

In 1969, DIllon joined the NYPD, where he was a NY police officer for 20 years.
