Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2021 Posted December 21, 2021 Someone on twitter described him as the "manageriest manager in baseball". Like if you had to cast a baseball manager for a movie, Buck would be your guy. I'm not sure I agree with that, but I can't think of anyone active that fits that role.Casey was before my time, but if I had to pick, I think my choices would be:Jim Leyland, Runner Uphttp://media.mlive.com/benchwarmer/photo/8373042-large.jpg>You can smell the cigarettes on his breath even through this picture.Bobby Cox, Winner, Manageriest Manager of All Timehttps://www.yourcentralvalley.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/54/2020/06/Bobby-Cox.jpg?w=475&h=594&crop=1>Foul-mouthed, impatient. stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2021 Posted December 21, 2021 And now I'm wondering if Shiner renamed their Bock to Shiner Buck when sold in Arlington during Showalter's Ranger tenure 🤔
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 21, 2021 Posted December 21, 2021 Good points above on the manageriest figures. But there are other candidates queuing up.Charlie Manuel wants you to know this is the major leagues. If you want somebody to hold your hand, go back to Paducah.[fimg=600]https://www.philliesacademy.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/usa_charlie_manuel.jpg[/fimg]Ron Washington looks at how you put all your strength into gripping the bat, and he's is going to tell you the same thing Carl Yastrzemski told him when he came up. "You want to stroke it, not choke it, Son."[fimg=600]https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f0/Ron_Washington_on_August_14%2C_2015_%28cropped%29.jpg[/fimg]Actually, Wash is probably less the prototypical manager and more of a paragon of coachiness.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2021 Author Posted December 21, 2021 No one has quite come out and demanded an answer for how to get the red off Jeff McNiel's ass, or how Dom Smith can regain his game
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 21, 2021 Posted December 21, 2021 "Buck, you got hired during a lockout. Did you discuss during the interview process that the team you get asked to manage may be made of non-union replacement players? Have you put any thought into what you would do if that were the case?"Ms. Showalter is a really good nodder.

stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2021 Posted December 21, 2021 Considering Showalter's upper body gear wearing habits, that might be one of the handful of times Showalter11 will be seen in Buck's own presence!

One reporter did make a passing reference to "a certain $130 million pitcher," but all appeared to comply.

The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2022 Posted September 20, 2022 Buck's experience, awareness (of situations/rules), and preparedness has played a vital role in guiding this team through this season. I think he ha done an excellent job of managing the team. I don't believe the Mets would be in this position if the managerial change had not been made at the end of last season.

Let's just hope he actually uses Edwin Díaz in an elimination game.
