Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2021 Posted December 4, 2021 Biked by Citifield today. No sign that a Tom Seaver statue is in progress.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2021 Posted December 4, 2021 I was wondering about this this week.I imagine once ready and erect, the insertion will be quite swift. You'dthink there would be some foundation there by now ready for placement.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2021 Posted December 4, 2021 Do we know where at the stadium it's going to be placed? Anywhere near the apple?
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2021 Posted December 4, 2021 I thought it was going by The Seaver Gate, but google says it's gonnabe by the apple which is better since more centrally located I suppose.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted December 26, 2021 Author Posted December 26, 2021 Still nothing today
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 26, 2021 Posted December 26, 2021 Tom was a union man. Maybe he's been locked out.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted December 26, 2021 Posted December 26, 2021 Slackers, the whole lot of 'em.
stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted February 25, 2022 Posted February 25, 2022 Meanwhile, the next Wrigley Field statue is apparently chilling in Ferguson Jenkins' garage!https://twitter.com/fergieajenkins/status/1496640363263627265?s=21https://twitter.com/fergieajenkins/status/1496640363263627265?s=21On a more Metly note, on a recent Instagram post, Lunchbucket did spot preparations being made in a spot across from The Apple at Citi Field.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted February 25, 2022 Author Posted February 25, 2022 I biked by Citifield the other day. There's orange flexible fencing around a circular base but nothing there. Just to the right of the apple. I wouldn't;t anticipate a big statue if that turns out to be the spot
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2022 Posted March 12, 2022 Statue to be unveiled on Opening Day, April 15.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 23, 2022 Posted March 23, 2022 You think it's in there by now, or this is just covering an empty pedestal?https://metsrostercentral.files.wordpress.com/2022/03/seaver.jpg>

kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted March 23, 2022 Posted March 23, 2022 Does CitiField have night-time security patrolling the grounds?Asking for a friend.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2022 Posted March 24, 2022 Statue apparently en route this morning. Armored car must not have been available.
A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2022 Posted March 24, 2022 I love they rented a $19 u-haul truck and trailer but didn't pony up the extra $12 for the blankets to cover the statue.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2022 Posted March 24, 2022 Not to nit pick, but can't they do better for him than a truck rentalfrom Home Depot or he like?
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2022 Posted March 24, 2022 “Now you sure you arranged for the statue to be delivered?”“Relax, Steve. My dad and I wouldn't sell you the team without taking care of every last detail. It's paid for and everything. Just call this number a couple of weeks before the official unveiling.”
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 24, 2022 Posted March 24, 2022 There's almost nothing about this that's not at least a little bit insane.
A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2022 Posted March 24, 2022 I can't stop thinking about this. I know they used like 5 or 6 very sturdy straps to hold this expensive statue in place on this trailer, but that thing looks like it would topple on the gentlest of left- or right-hand turns.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2022 Posted March 24, 2022 I hope it's not too tall to fit under bridges.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2022 Posted March 24, 2022 I also hope this is photoshopped.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 11, 2022 Posted April 11, 2022 The Mets have announced that Nancy Seaver is expected to be in attendance for the ceremonial introduction of the statue, as well as the couple's daughters Anne and Sarah.

What are the odds she throws some good shade at the prior Mets owners?
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2022 Posted April 11, 2022 I remember crushing on Sarah Seaver when I saw her on Tom Seaver Day in 1988.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 Asking for a lot, maybe but it seems to me that if the Bronze Tom can ride up and down the LIE on a U-Haul trailer, it can be introduced on the field before being rolled to its permanent location and secured during the game.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 It occurs to me that perhaps a Tom Seaver rotunda and a Jackie Robinson statue would have been the better way to go.
