G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2021 Posted November 15, 2021 Reports out that former Angels GM Billy Eppler has received the Big Ask from the Mets to fill that very same role.

Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2021 Posted November 15, 2021 Hey, so it looks like we are getting a guy from LA.Nice! What position did he hold with the Dodgers?Well, see...

Ineffective pitching, multiple free-agent busts, numerous injuries and the 2019 overdose death of Tyler Skaggs derailed Eppler's best attempts to return the Angels to the playoffs. andBut the Angels posted losing records during all five seasons of Eppler's tenure. The team's on-field failings and some stumbles in player development and scouting ultimately led to Eppler's ouster. VS One of his first successful moves was trading for elite shortstop Andrelton Simmons, who won Gold Gloves in consecutive years upon joining the Angels. Eppler also was credited with building the team's first full-time analytics staff and often was commended for how he interacted with players. I'm not thrilled.Later

smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2021 Posted November 15, 2021 Landing Ohtani was a huge win, and keeping Trout in Anaheim was as well. The plus side is not completely empty. But even teams with high payrolls and legit star players need to get the less splashy things right, and he appears to have too much in common with our front office from last year in that regard. Hopefully he learned a few things on the way.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2021 Posted November 15, 2021 "Finally" will be the most used word in articles about the hire especially because every potential free agent signing went to another team and they went into the season without a manager... oh, wait.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2021 Author Posted November 15, 2021 GM experience. Not Chris Christie's lawyer or whatever the vague connection was.Great. Go build a winner.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2021 Author Posted November 15, 2021 Ex-Angel, ex-agent. I wonder if he's no longer ageist.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted November 15, 2021 Posted November 15, 2021 I wouldn't begin to know how to Epple.

Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted November 15, 2021 Posted November 15, 2021 seems..fine. I mean, Cohen and Alderson are still above him so who knows what role he even has.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2021 Posted November 15, 2021 Everyone's below the owner. Always. Moot point, fifteen yards. We don't know what the pecking order will be or what role Alderson will have.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2021 Posted November 15, 2021 Well, if Johnny Murphy and Frank Cashen's love child is not available, I suppose this will do.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2021 Posted November 15, 2021 I look forward to him getting drunk and trying to stick his tongue in Suzy Waldman's mouth during an interleague game. Then driving home.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted November 15, 2021 Posted November 15, 2021 ARSON! We've decided the next guy is gonna do ARSON!geeze, it's like you don't even listen to the pod. ;-)
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted November 15, 2021 Posted November 15, 2021 Knowing as little as I do, I'm all for it, I guess. Background in scouting, commitment to analytics, connections in Asia, experience in New York, and has a relationship with the two best players in baseball. Played the game, hires folks from traditional and non-traditional backgrounds. Turned down outreach for the D-Bags job. These aren't non-qualities. And clearly there will be layers of leadership. Most importantly, as soon as he gets on board, the organization can unfreeze.

What Felonies does he have on his rap sheet?"
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2021 Posted November 16, 2021 No dick picks, he will do.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2021 Author Posted November 16, 2021 ”A mentorship under [brian Cashman] and a strong recommendation outweighs Eppler's 5 years as Angels GM in which they didn't have a winning record."Martino on SNY last night. Good to know what the Mets prioritize.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2021 Posted November 16, 2021 Paid Matt Harvey $11 million, presumably not including the charges of custom fitting a jersey that had a giant hole in the back for the fork sticking out of him.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted November 16, 2021 Posted November 16, 2021 He looks a lot like Matt Lauer in that profile shot — which, I guess, doesn't fit particularly well into the don't-hire-a-sexual-miscreant agenda.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted November 16, 2021 Posted November 16, 2021 well, that wasn't really a concern of theirs for the agenda anyway. Wonder if they bothered to vet him with any women this time.
