G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2021 Posted October 23, 2021 ATL vs HOU vs general disdain.General disdain in six.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2021 Posted October 24, 2021 Gotta catch up on my bingeing. Fox has to be unhappy; NOBODY is going to watch this outside of Houston and Atlanta. Cheaters vs. Racist symbols is a lose-lose.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2021 Posted October 24, 2021 The title made me think of Queen: "Can anybody find me somebody to love?'Other than a MFY v WSH matchup, I can't think of a worse Series pairing than this one. Baseball-wise, it's fine but it will be hard to look at it despite the glory of the WS and the excitement of two very good teams when it's THESE two teams and these two fanbases.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2021 Posted October 24, 2021 Not a fan of either team (REALLY?), so the tie breakers for me are:Baseball-wise: The Braves are a National League team.Life-wise: Georgia elected two Democratic Senators and their head of elections basically told Donald Trump to fuck off when he called to have the presidential election results de-certified.So, (holding my nose) go Braves.Later
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2021 Posted October 24, 2021 (edited) Have to go with National League allegiance on this one. But I don't love it. If they wore an 1974 Aaron-era throwback for a game, that would be a thing.https://content.sportslogos.net/news/2014/04/Atlanta-Braves-1974-Throwbacks-2014-3.jpg> Edited October 24, 2021 by Guest
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2021 Posted October 24, 2021 I'm Team Braves. Historically, the Braves won one championship in Boston, one championship in Milwaukee, and one championship in the City of Atlanta. Let this be their one championship in Cobb County.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2021 Posted October 24, 2021 Braves, no question. And it's not just two football towns going at it ratings-wise but two College football towns.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2021 Posted October 24, 2021 Texas? They're like two days away from burning books over there.Aaron era throwbacks? The Braves are wearing Aaron era throwbacks right now. The Braves are wearing the same exact uni Aaron wore for almost his entire Braves career.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2021 Posted October 24, 2021 If ATL wins 2 of the last 3 WS Winners will be from the NL East (and 2 for 2 following 162 game seasons). Perhaps the Mets would like to join in next season.

kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted October 25, 2021 Posted October 25, 2021 I don't get the whole National-League-Or-Bust thing that yearly goes on here.I also don't care which team wins but will pull slight for 'stros since I pickedthem to win it all in one of the earlier threads. In five games, I believe, butthat sounds a bit bold at the present time. Seven games.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 25, 2021 Posted October 25, 2021 I'm not on a National League-or-bust thing, but I'm OK with it.If you get knocked out in the first round of a tournament, there's a satisfaction in seeing the team you lost to win it all. That allows you to kid yourself that, hey, you were theoretically better than most or all of the field, and it took the best to take you out.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 25, 2021 Posted October 25, 2021 Favorite things about the Astros (No particular Order):Rainbow unis.Numbers on thigh on rainbow unis.Bagwell's taking-a-poop-in-the-woods stance.Beltran's catch on Tal's hill.Trying to find a way to win in the Dome.Four different looks from Ryan, Niekro, Knepper, and Richard on one staff.Bill Doran always getting MVP support despite no standout numbers.Beating them in 1986.Favorite things about the Braves (No particular Order):Aaron. The Aaron-era unis with the sleeves not matching the chestplate. In 1981, they had Phil Niekro AND Gaylord Perry — the two greatest junk throwers in history, both 42 years old.Dale Murphy's mole.Glenn Hubbard's beard. For decades, their shortstop always seemed to be name Rafael.Every hitter on their team this year seemed to be an MVP candidate, having the year of his life, and if any of them weren't hot when the Braves and Mets locked up, they were hot by the end of the series.A few years ago, in the Kimbrell era, that was what their bullpen looked like, too.Bob Horner's ass. His white hair and his big ass.Their turnaround from 1990 to 1991.I appreciated them not only hiring Torre in 1982, but hiring most of his Mets staff, which was, to some extent, still Gil Hodges' staff. The marathon Independence Day game.Beating them in 1969.I'm a Mets fan, so the list of things I don't like about them is certainly longer. I think I'm going to pick the tomahawk choppers over the garbage can bangers. I just see Senator Cruz and President Trump wrapping themselves in an Astros victory and I can't abide that. I'm putting Houston fans in the MOST LIKELY TO START A FUCK JOE BIDEN! CHANT category. If I'm wrong about that, and Braves fans start with that shit, I will switch allegiance in one second. If both fan bases do it, well, you'll have yourself an embarrassing problem, Commissioner Manfred, and America.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2021 Posted October 26, 2021 Good thing the Houston pitching coach made all those mound visits otherwise the Astros staff might really be in trouble.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2021 Posted October 26, 2021 Joc Pederson has a very punchable face ... and it's not like the pearls are doing much to alter that feeling.
