bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted October 14, 2021 Posted October 14, 2021 (edited) Game One, Friday night, 8:07 PM, with Joe Buck who did the football game last night because FOX thinks that we have to hear him every damn night no matter what the sport. The Houston Astros and the Boston Red Sox will play in the ALCS. Do you have a preference? Reasons to support Houston: I can't think of any.Reason to support Boston: 1) if they win it pisses of MFY fans; 2) I'd rather see Fenway during the WS than Minute Maid Enron ParkReasons not to support Houston: 1) they play in Texas which is now the worst state in America. Yeah, Alabama and Mississippi can look at Texas and say, "we ain't even that dumb!"; 2) they cheated; 3) 5 years in a row in the ALCS is impressive but enough--Texans are insufferable already and they don't need another reason.Reasons not to support Boston: 1) enough already. It was cute when they won once but now their fans are on the level of Patriots fans in terms of being obnoxious; 2) Alex Cora is the manager, a former Met which is a good thing of course, but the Bench Coach for Houston at their cheating apex (as far as we know). He only had to sit out one season, and it was a 60-game season, and now he's back. Some punishment by MLB. Edited October 14, 2021 by Guest
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted October 14, 2021 Posted October 14, 2021 Pulling for Boston, obviously. It's a treat that they've got this far, so anything else would be gravy.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted October 14, 2021 Posted October 14, 2021 I took Houston to win it all in the prediction thread so I guess I should take them.[but really, let's go sawx]
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted October 14, 2021 Posted October 14, 2021 I don't think I have a strong preference. They're both fine. Red Sox probably annoys yankee fans more so there's that.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted October 14, 2021 Posted October 14, 2021 The enemy of my enemy is my friend.Go, Sox.But I'm gonna' need a pair of earplugs when the local sports comes on. The pro - Sawx slant on my CT station news will be overbearing.Later
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted October 14, 2021 Posted October 14, 2021 Astros eliminated MFYs in 2017 and 2019.Red Sox eliminated MFYs in 2018 and 2021.They both have my gratitude.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 15, 2021 Posted October 15, 2021 HOU RHP Lance McCullers [28 reg season starts; 13-5; 3.16 ERA; a league-low H/9 & HR/9 rates] is off the roster for this series due to "forearm tightness"BOS goes with the recently ineffective Chris Sale for tonight's games
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 15, 2021 Posted October 15, 2021 3 innings, one hour 33 minutesiow, another post-season game I'm not seeing the second half of.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 15, 2021 Posted October 15, 2021 So Altuve, having just tied Jeter in post-season HRs despite less than half the ABs, is going to be cited by sportscaster everywhere as the new all-time October clutch hitter, right?btw, nice to see that they got six innings in in (just a hair) under three hours.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2021 Posted October 16, 2021 More like Hansel BLOWbes, amiright, fellas?!?
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2021 Posted October 16, 2021 Sawks up 4-0 in the top of the first, second game.JD Martinez with a grand slam.Later
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2021 Posted October 16, 2021 Devers makes it 8-0 with another grand slam in the 2nd.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2021 Posted October 16, 2021 I just tuned in to find 8-sniffle and was like phwamo!Gonna go out on a limb here and guess no team has hit two grannies in the first three innings of a game in a league championship series before?Probably very few in regular season as well?
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2021 Posted October 16, 2021 Correct. First team with two salamis in a post-season game.Kiké Hernandez makes hit 9-0 with a solo blast.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2021 Posted October 16, 2021 Kiké Hernandez is the the 2021 Red Sox equivalent of 2015 Daniel Murphy.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2021 Posted October 16, 2021 It just occurred to me that the LHR for Houston who we've seen several times in this playoff run so far, Blake Taylor, was the PtbNL we got from the Pirates when we dealt away Ike Davis. We later sent him to Houston in Dec '19 for the short-lived stint of Jake Marisnick.Taylor was a 2nd round pick by the Pirates and was still just 18 y/o at the time of the trade so there were reasons for optimism. But he wound up injured for most of the first three years we had him -- 41, 12, and 9 IP -- and I guess progress after that wasn't exciting enough to keep around. He's been decent in one-plus seasons w/Houston and, nearly eight years after the deal, only recently turned 25
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 18, 2021 Posted October 18, 2021 All of you who had 'Bottom of the 2nd' for the first unnecessary mound conference please step forward to collect your winnings.oe: and it didn't work [RBI Single] as these visits increasingly seem not to
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted October 18, 2021 Author Posted October 18, 2021 Perhaps the Mets should sign Schwarber to be the DH for '22 (if they think that there will be a DH).
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 18, 2021 Posted October 18, 2021 Didn't the Mets go like a season and a half without a Grand Slam a couple years ago?And here are the Sox hitting 'em in the playoffs like there's nothing unusual.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 18, 2021 Posted October 18, 2021 Good thing there was that pitching coach visit or else that inning might have really gone all pear-shaped on the 'Stros.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted October 18, 2021 Posted October 18, 2021 This game's on pace to approach midnight, me not so much...
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 18, 2021 Posted October 18, 2021 Boston can hist two or three more grannies, as far as I'm concerned.[fimg=550]https://www.cruz.senate.gov/imo/media/image/old/newsletter_items/1104/a3.jpg[/fimg]
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted October 19, 2021 Posted October 19, 2021 I'd like to bang a garbage can while it's on his head.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2021 Posted October 20, 2021 Watching via tape delay -- so I'm about 20 minutes behind -- where Houston's Framber Valdez is perfect thru 4 innings on just 46 pitches, a mark which is, I believe, a record for Frambers.1-0 Astros
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted October 22, 2021 Posted October 22, 2021 Apparently Luis Garcia's injury in game 2 is not bad enough to prevent him from starting game 6. Hopefully, they have Odorizzi warming up in the actual bullpen this time.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 22, 2021 Posted October 22, 2021 Kyle Schwarber picks Now to go 3 for his last 22?!?I'll have to double check this, but I believe in 22 ABs vs the Mets this year he had 19 hits, 17 of which were 3R HRs
