Game One, Friday night, 8:07 PM, with Joe Buck who did the football game last night because FOX thinks that we have to hear him every damn night no matter what the sport.

The Houston Astros and the Boston Red Sox will play in the ALCS. Do you have a preference?

Reasons to support Houston: I can't think of any.

Reason to support Boston: 1) if they win it pisses of MFY fans; 2) I'd rather see Fenway during the WS than Minute Maid Enron Park

Reasons not to support Houston: 1) they play in Texas which is now the worst state in America. Yeah, Alabama and Mississippi can look at Texas and say, "we ain't even that dumb!"; 2) they cheated; 3) 5 years in a row in the ALCS is impressive but enough--Texans are insufferable already and they don't need another reason.

Reasons not to support Boston: 1) enough already. It was cute when they won once but now their fans are on the level of Patriots fans in terms of being obnoxious; 2) Alex Cora is the manager, a former Met which is a good thing of course, but the Bench Coach for Houston at their cheating apex (as far as we know). He only had to sit out one season, and it was a 60-game season, and now he's back. Some punishment by MLB.

I took Houston to win it all in the prediction thread so I guess I should take them.

[but really, let's go sawx]

The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

Go, Sox.

But I'm gonna' need a pair of earplugs when the local sports comes on. The pro - Sawx slant on my CT station news will be overbearing.

Astros eliminated MFYs in 2017 and 2019.

Red Sox eliminated MFYs in 2018 and 2021.

They both have my gratitude.

HOU RHP Lance McCullers [28 reg season starts; 13-5; 3.16 ERA; a league-low H/9 & HR/9 rates] is off the roster for this series due to "forearm tightness"

BOS goes with the recently ineffective Chris Sale for tonight's games

So Altuve, having just tied Jeter in post-season HRs despite less than half the ABs, is going to be cited by sportscaster everywhere as the new all-time October clutch hitter, right?

btw, nice to see that they got six innings in in (just a hair) under three hours.

Sawks up 4-0 in the top of the first, second game.

JD Martinez with a grand slam.

I just tuned in to find 8-sniffle and was like phwamo!

Gonna go out on a limb here and guess no team has hit two grannies

in the first three innings of a game in a league championship series before?

Probably very few in regular season as well?

It just occurred to me that the LHR for Houston who we've seen several times in this playoff run so far, Blake Taylor, was the PtbNL we got from the Pirates when we dealt away Ike Davis.

We later sent him to Houston in Dec '19 for the short-lived stint of Jake Marisnick.

Taylor was a 2nd round pick by the Pirates and was still just 18 y/o at the time of the trade so there were reasons for optimism. But he wound up injured for most of the first three years

we had him -- 41, 12, and 9 IP -- and I guess progress after that wasn't exciting enough to keep around.

He's been decent in one-plus seasons w/Houston and, nearly eight years after the deal, only recently turned 25

All of you who had 'Bottom of the 2nd' for the first unnecessary mound conference please step forward to collect your winnings.

oe: and it didn't work [RBI Single] as these visits increasingly seem not to

Perhaps the Mets should sign Schwarber to be the DH for '22 (if they think that there will be a DH).

Didn't the Mets go like a season and a half without a Grand Slam a couple years ago?

And here are the Sox hitting 'em in the playoffs like there's nothing unusual.

Watching via tape delay -- so I'm about 20 minutes behind -- where Houston's Framber Valdez is perfect thru 4 innings on just 46 pitches, a mark which is, I believe, a record for Frambers.

1-0 Astros

Kyle Schwarber picks Now to go 3 for his last 22?!?

I'll have to double check this, but I believe in 22 ABs vs the Mets this year he had 19 hits, 17 of which were 3R HRs
