batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 https://twitter.com/jeffpassan/status/1420911145758691330According to multiple reports tonight, the three-time Cy Young award-winner and the Nats' starting shortstop are both being dealt to the Los Angeles Dodgers for a prospect package that includes catcher Keibert Ruiz and right-hander Josiah Gray, the top player and pitcher in the Dodgers' organization, and “two mid-range prospects” as the Athletic's Ken Rosenthal described them.https://www.federalbaseball.com/2021/7/29/22601106/washington-nationals-reportedly-trade-max-scherzer-trea-turner-to-los-angeles-dodgers-four-prospectshttps://www.federalbaseball.com/2021/7/29/22601106/washington-nationals-reportedly-trade-max-scherzer-trea-turner-to-los-angeles-dodgers-four-prospects
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 (edited) If the season ended today, the Dodgers would be playing in the one-and-done Wild Card game. So they're upping the odds that they'll have an ace starting pitcher for that game if that scenario plays out, among other things. Edited July 29, 2021 by Guest
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 That would be a Holy Guacamole situation.I figured Seagar was due back shortly. Is the idea to use Turner at short for a few days and then move him to second?
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 If we had a preference, Scherzer would become a Padre as the Mets are done with SD but have 7 games in August with LA.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 Schwarber to the Red Sox, Hudson to the Padres, Nationals to the drawing board.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 Might not be anyone left when Sandy and Steve wake up.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 Some of the players that we might hear about today:MIN: Berrios (SD might go for him to try and counter the Scherzer deal)CHC: Baez, Bryant, Hendricks, Davies, KimbrelCOL: Story, Jon Gray (per Wikipedia: "Since he was 10 years old, Gray has been interested in ghosts and he uses equipment for ghost hunting in hotels.")TEX: K. Gibson
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 Someone's going to overpay for Berrios today. The question is whether it's us or the Padres.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 I think I'm hoping for a deal that brings us Baez and Davies.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 Corey Seager had a setback with his hand.Mets get Bryant I say.I hope Brett Baty or Mauricio stay put.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 I think Mauricio or Vientos are more likely to go than Baty or Alvarez.I think JD Davis goes to the Cubs if a deal is made.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 I can't say that I'm particularly sorry to see Trea Turner leave the National League East.

nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 The Mets are going to disappoint us all arent they?
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 Atlanta gets Eddie Rosario and Adam Duvall in separate deals.Alderson...fell asleep?
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 Norris was that guy who was living in a van down by the river or something when he first came up, right? Toronto or Arizona or something.

seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 SNY promoting a 5:30pm "post-deadline" conference to discuss... something, I guess? I guess we still have two hours.
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 I saw some tweet this morning stating that this was the 4th time that the Mets were in first in the division on the morning of the deadline by 3.5+ games. 1986, 1988 and 2006 were the previous years (all first place finishes). I haven't fact checked, but it seems right. How can they not find pieces to push through the finish line if that is the case?
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 Curious to me that the White Sox are adding multiple reinforcements and Milwaukee has not (yet), given they have nearly the same record and division lead.If I'm Milwaukee...I'd covet Kris Bryant.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 UPDATE (2:53 p.m.): MLB.com's Mark Feinsand reports “The Mets have a deal in place pending medicals to acquire Javier Baez from the Cubs, per source.”
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 Kind of fascinated to see who's left to take the field for the Red Wings tonight, considering the Nats have dealt pretty much the entire major league roster.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 I think all these trades are just a ploy to revitalize the airline industry.
