Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted May 24, 2021 Posted May 24, 2021 What's Granderson up to these days
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 24, 2021 Author Posted May 24, 2021 Juan Lagares has started five games in a row for the newly Troutless Angels.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 24, 2021 Author Posted May 24, 2021 And lest it go unremarked on, Maybin and Lee, the now-numbers one and two on the team's depth chart, have combined to bat .029 in 35 at-batz.
LWFS Old-Timey Member Posted May 24, 2021 Posted May 24, 2021 Perhaps a cheap option/just DFA'ed in San Francisco: https://www.fangraphs.com/players/braden-bishop/17806/stats?position=OFKhalil Lee, Centerfield Edition (erstwhile prospect with offensive offense/superlative defense Braden Bishop)Similarly/of similar provenance: https://www.fangraphs.com/players/dee-gordon/8203/stats?position=2Ba semi-familiar face/part-time CFer (DFA'ed over the weekend... and at least he's got bunting experience)
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 25, 2021 Author Posted May 25, 2021 I was totally ready to pitch DSG this morning. Good on you.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2021 Posted May 25, 2021 When did Dee Gordon become Strange?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 25, 2021 Author Posted May 25, 2021 Last year, he changed his name in honor of his late mother, who was murdered when he was a child.[FIMG=500]https://media.distractify.com/brand-img/SnwOH8w7C/1440x753/why-did-dee-gordon-change-his-name-1599600439617.jpg[/FIMG]It actually had always been his legal name, and Dee Gordon was his stage name. Similarly, Tom Seaver's real name was George Thomas Mellancamp.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2021 Posted May 25, 2021 George Thomas COUGAR Mellencamp. Also, methinks Tebow quit too soon.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2021 Posted May 25, 2021 Yeah, we woulda seen Tebow by now. He couldn't be a worse hitter than Maybin.Hell, I could go 0-19 and I'd even pay THEM a buck.
roger_that Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2021 Posted May 25, 2021 You all don't know how to spell "Death" apparently.

86dreamer Old-Timey Member Posted May 26, 2021 Posted May 26, 2021 cross DSG off the list of possible replacemetshttps://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/cubs-sign-dee-strange-gordon-following-nico-hoerners-hamstring-injury-per-report/https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/cubs-sign-dee-strange-gordon-following-nico-hoerners-hamstring-injury-per-report/
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 26, 2021 Author Posted May 26, 2021 I figgered that train had fled the station since while Milwaukee was releasing him, they were claiming Hager and trading us McKinney.
LWFS Old-Timey Member Posted May 26, 2021 Posted May 26, 2021 I'm annoyed about not getting some Strange, a little. But getting, say, https://www.fangraphs.com/players/delino-deshields/11379/stats?position=OFLil' Delino-- currently languishing at AAA for the Rangers, as they enjoy/examine Adolis Garcia... and likely a defensive upgrade on both a healthy Almora AND a healed Pillar-- might help ease that burning annoyance... and be semi-realistic, to boot. Failing that, one of the other bargain brands denoted https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/mets-trade-targets-five-realistic-players-the-banged-up-nl-east-contenders-could-acquire/here could work:-- Medium-sucky at all three positions https://www.fangraphs.com/players/brian-goodwin/12858/stats?position=OFBrian Goodwin, CWS-- "Feast or famine" post-hype prospect with real pop https://www.fangraphs.com/players/sam-hilliard/17954/stats?position=OFSam Hilliard, COL-- Poor-man's Nimmo https://www.fangraphs.com/players/lamonte-wade-jr/18126/stats?position=OFLamonte Wade, SF(The https://www.fangraphs.com/players/mike-brosseau/19683/stats?position=2B/3BMike Brosseau suggestion is also intriguing, even if he hasn't played CF; the versatility alone would be very, very helpful)
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 26, 2021 Author Posted May 26, 2021 Such is the stuff of GM-ing — figuring out the best of a lot of bad options.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted May 29, 2021 Posted May 29, 2021 What about Mason Williams? Not the "Classical Gas" composer but the current Syracuse CF? He's 29 so it's not like he's a top prospect but he's hitting (albeit at the AAA level) which separates him from Maybin and Lee.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted May 29, 2021 Posted May 29, 2021 Need a 40-man move to get him. I suppose we could dump Tovar.Or Maybin
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted May 29, 2021 Posted May 29, 2021 What about Mason Williams? Not the "Classical Gas" composer but the current Syracuse CF? He's 29 so it's not like he's a top prospect but he's hitting (albeit at the AAA level) which separates him from Maybin and Lee.He was originally drafted by the MFYs, and is the grandson of former major leaguer Walt "No Neck" Williams.Something may be cooking on the transaction front because he was taken out of the game after hitting that grand slam. Later
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 29, 2021 Posted May 29, 2021 He was somewhat of a prospect with the Yanx for a tear or two. Didn't know about the Walt Williams connection although BBRef lists Mason as grand-nephew to Walt rather than grandson. He's much taller than his uncle but Walt (listed at 5' 6") would have been much taller if he, y'know, had a neck.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted May 29, 2021 Posted May 29, 2021 Back in the lineup in the second game- 1 for 1. Now hitting .396.When I clicked on his name in the MiLB gameday box score, it gave his stats, when he was drafted and said grandson.Guess the references have to get into synch.Later
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 30, 2021 Author Posted May 30, 2021 Walt Williams is definitely Mason's great uncle. Mason's dad, as mentioned earlier this season in another thread, was (and, in a sense, still is) NFL wide receiver Derwin Williams. Walt was Derwin's uncle.
