G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2021 Posted April 12, 2021 After nine pitches in two days, two games in one day. That's the plan. 4:10 twi-night first pitch.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2021 Author Posted April 12, 2021 Walker in the opener, Stroman in the nightcap.
duan Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 I like the chances of two wins here

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 Not for nothing, but I wonder when the last time the Mets sent two African-Americans to the mound in a double-header was.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 The numbers of Black players born in the USA in MLB has been dropping for a long time so it could be a while.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 Well, I don't know if it's reflected more broadly, but hopefully today's Mets starters represent something of a reversal of the ongoing trend.

(I didn't look it up.)And I'm not sure if they started both games of a double-header. (Jones only had three starts)Later

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 Maybe Dwight Gooden and Anthony Young?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 I was thinking Gooden and Young would be our most likely answer.
dinosaur jesus Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 Gooden and Young had a good chance, but it never happened. As it happens, Roadblock Jones and Al Jackson did start both ends of a doubleheader: April 29, 1962. Jackson shut out the Phillies in the opener, while Jackson pitched into the fifth in the nightcap, giving up six runs in a 10-2 loss. It was his last major league start. On August 17, 1980, Ray Burris and Roy Lee Jackson did it, as the Mets were swept by the Phillies. That may be it. If so, the only three times it's happened have been against the Phillies. We've been swept and split. It's time for a sweep of our own.

Doubleheader against the Astros. Gooden and Young are the pitchers of record. But Young was the game #2 reliever: Tom Filer was the starter.

Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 I don't know how much this was commented on, but Lindor getting caught stealing in the first inning the other day was about the worst thing that happened to the Mets in 2021 so far., excluding Luis's dumbass yanking of deGrom on opening day. He needs to stop doing that.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2021 Author Posted April 13, 2021 For all the talk of “wasting” deGrom's magnificent first two starts, don't sleep on Nimmo's seven hits and six walks in five games resulting in only two runs scored for Brandon. The 2021 Mets are proving capable of not taking advantage of any asset at their disposal.

I'd put it in the top five along with the yanking of deGrom and the shutdown of the opening series, but I'd put those first. And the season is young.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 Walker will have started two of the last three games. That's gotta be pretty rare too.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 Stroman you mean, started sunday and will start today.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 I mean Walker. I'm not sure if Sunday's game will be an April 11 game or an August 31 game.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 He means Walker.1. Walker started ThursdayNo Game Friday2. deGrom started on SaturdayGame suspended on SundayGame postponed on Monday3. Walker starts on Tuesday
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 Every team has played 9, 10 or 11 games, except the Nats (7) and the Mets (5).
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 I mean, Stroman started Sunday. Whether or not the 'official' date of the game changes, he warmed up and actually took the mound.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 Walker is potentially starting 2 of 3 official games in a row, then.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 So after five games over almost two weeks, we'll now (hopefully) get in four games in the next 48 hours.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 calling for rain Thursday
