Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 19, 2021 Posted March 19, 2021 Out-of-office politicians used to get these gigs a lot. It helped teams work the civic process when they needed easements and road closures and shit. It also would give them a little more respectability. Not so much a boost in the respectability column here.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2021 Posted March 19, 2021 I was barely aware that there is a Board of Directors. Is it a paying gig? I'm gonna lobby for a seat and be happy if I can just get VIP credentials.I won't forget youse guys!!
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2021 Posted March 19, 2021 UGH!No, not you, Kase, the announcement.Later
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2021 Author Posted March 19, 2021 The Cohen's talk about being inclusive and respect for all, and yet they have hired a person who was ON HIS KNEES before someone who had no interest in inclusion or respect for anyone. Christie instructed DT on how to make Joe stutter during the first debate. It didn't happen b/if it did it would have embarrassed people with a speech impediment all over the world. And now, he is being paid by our favorite team.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2021 Posted March 19, 2021 M. Donald Grant has competition for worst person to have ever served on the Mets board of directors.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 19, 2021 Posted March 19, 2021 If you're looking to the past, George Herbert Walker IV would have been a more credible choice. Despite being a Bush cousin and being another finance hotshot, he's demonstrably smart, his finance firm performs well, and in contrast with the Mets president, has managed to keep a squeaky clean reputation, despite being owned by Lehman Brothers during their disaster, and subsequently led the employees in a buyout. You get Mets history plus connections in both politics and finance, without nearly as much ick as Cohen or Governor Christie bring to the table. And he's a Republican financier who has never given to President Trump, or Governor Christie for that matter.Or stay in Connecticut and hire Bobby Valentine.

Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted March 20, 2021 Posted March 20, 2021 yeah. Chris Christie, the only person that attended every Mets game last year.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 20, 2021 Posted March 20, 2021 In the morning of the same day, the Mets announced their commitment to combating hate crimes. And then in the afternoon, they announce the hiring of a guy who substantially helped bring about the hatemonger in chief.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted March 21, 2021 Posted March 21, 2021 I don't necessarily want to rag on Jeanne Melino, though this last statement of her attached bio is suspect"Ms. Melino is a life-long New Yorker and was born and raised in the Bronx."Is this a "tell us she's a Yankees fan without telling us she's a Yankees fan?"
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2021 Author Posted April 4, 2021 Mets Executive Chris Christie today called Joe Biden a "liar", disagreed w/MLB's moving the All-Star Game from Georgia because of the racist, anti-Democracy voting law, and defended this law.https://talkingpointsmemo.com/news/christie-georgia-voting-law-major-league-baseballhttps://talkingpointsmemo.com/news/christie-georgia-voting-law-major-league-baseballAs MLB Players supported the Commissioner's decision, I wonder if Mets players heard what he said. I also wonder if the Commissioner will call Steve Cohen and ask why a Mets Executive is disagreeing with his move.Cohen said that Christie's hiring "wasn't about politics" but Christie is a former, and perhaps future, politician, who is a regular contributor on politics for ABC so Cohen can't expect us to believe that Christie is a brilliant baseball mind and ignore everything he does outside of his Mets role. Cohen royally screwed this up, embarrassed the Mets, embarrassed the Commissioner, and must fire Christie as fast as he fired the old GM. He won't, he's too arrogant, but he should.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 (edited) Christie failed to give a straightforward answer and insinuated that Biden supposedly stoked “a raging fire.” [when asked to clarify what the MLB's decision is a “symptom” of.]“Listen, here's what Joe Biden's got to live with when he wakes up this morning on Easter morning: he is doing exactly what he sat around in the campaign and the transition and accused Donald Trump of doing,”So Biden's doing exactly what Trump did only when Trump did it, it was OK. And now, suddenly, Cuomo has to resign even though Trump is the one who racked up 26 credible complaints of sexual abuse and harassment and bragged, before he was even elected, about being entitled to grab women's pussies against their will whether they like it or not because he's a celebrity.Just ignore these hypocrite scumbags, because, sure, yeah right, Governor Kemp: They're not racist laws and youse aren't racists either, Kemp. Sure. Because we're all fucking idiots. Whatever youse say just because youse say so.Just boycott these scumbag bastards until they fold. Just like the Montgomery buses.Boycott Coke and Home Depot and Delta. You can't play the middle. If youse aren't against it, you're for it and deserve to get boycotted. Edited April 4, 2021 by Guest
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 It's pretty much the first rule of boardwork. You disagree with the executive as vociferously as you want in the room, but you either back him or her in public, or if you can't do that, you shut up and stay away from microphones. Most of these guys go years or decades without being noticed, scarcely taking the time to update their photos for the media guide.I'm all about this being a great time to break with Governor Christie. Publicly and decisively.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 Yeah set him on fire in a metal barrel. Agreed.
