If I had to guess, I would bet Cohen thinks Sandy misplayed his hands and is secretly a little annoyed at the mixed bag this offseason.

But he is a professional, has and will continue to defer to Sandy until he sees the results on the field.

nah, they shoulda gone $80M/year, just to get bauer.

Well Cohen can afford it therefore he should have gone there ... or something like that.

I got a problem with people saying that Bauer only pitched 73 innings last year. Only. It's only but that only is more than Walker pitched the last three years combined. And Walker wasn't ever better than Jake deGrom was. But last year, Bauer indisputably was. Maybe he'll be better than deGrom in 2021, too. That's likelier to happen than Walker besting Jake.

So that's my problem. That and the money posts where some of youse let out a relieved breath of air at all the money Steve Cohen saved by Bauer not signing with the Mets even though Bauer's contract would've been pizza-pie money to Cohen and that ain't no hyperbole. Cohen and the Mets are gonna put a positive spin on the outcomes of all of their failed FA pursuits but nobody here knows whether or not Cohen is kicking himself for not upping his offers a little bit more. Maybe Cohen secretly thinks he misplayed his hands.

(all emphasis mine)

First: "indisputably" ("arguably"/"marginally" is probably closer to the nut of the thing)

Second: Given that they're working on three or more long-term deals for their own players (including one pitcher whose on-paper profile is very similar to Bauer's), how COHEN feels about Bauer's salary probably isn't exactly the only consideration with regard to Bauer's salary. (Another consideration: the luxury-tax implications of multiple large signings, which would be more like pizza-pie-for-life money to Cohen, at least.)

Third: Near as I can tell, the question most Bauer-doubters had/have regarding track record wasn't so much whether someone with his track record was GOOD; rather, it's whether it was prudent/advisable to give someone with his track record (nevermind someone with his track record, brand-building priorities, and yellow-flag-dotted wish list) the highest AAV in baseball for multiple years.

Three other things:

1) Not only do we have a rotation that's deep enough now to feature a Peterson/Lucchesi battle for the #5 slot, we've got a AAA pool that'll likely be something like Montgomery/Gsellman/Yamamoto/Reid-Foley/Eickhoff/Kilome/Szapucki/McWilliams/Oswalt. Depth-- meaningful depth, with nobody punching above-weight-- is important.

2) Piggybacking on FK's joke from the other thread, I like the idea of calling our guy "Formosa"

3) Formosa should probably individually-wrap any Spring Training tacos he gives out this offseason, given COVID concerns

They haven't announced it yet. Currently only 00, 7, 69, 84, 85, 99 available, but at least 1 number frees up when they drop from the 40 to add him and Pillar. It's likely Syndy to 60-day il will clear 1 spot.

I got a small bet on 99

Between Walker, Stroman (0), and Jake, there should be a whole lotta zeroes on the mound this year.

Now he has to pick his entrance music.

I get a feeling that somewhere in the world, at any given time, someone is always typing or uttering this sentence.

I looked for that and couldn't find it. I think it was said by Groucho Marx.

That's one of my favorite CCR songs right there.
