According to the MLB story, Mets players have been told to prepare as though the Saturday 4:05 PM game will be played. I think if they're wiling to play one game that way they are more likely to just turn it into a 2 game double header at the same start time? That's what makes sense to me anyway. Why fall further behind so early, not knowing how the next weeks will play out.

Sorry folks.

I jinxed it.

Wore my Mets cap, and got into the car to go out with wifey.

Five minutes later, heard the game would be cancelled.

My fault for wearing anything Metly near my wife, the MFY fan.

Won't happen again.

Later

Woah, now we're facing the Phillies. Nats are an outbreak disaster.

how are the Mets going to stay fresh after doing nothing for a week and the Phillies being all primed after a series vs. the Braves?

Nor am I. Last I read was that the Mets are being told they should be "prepared to play" on Saturday (4:00) and that today was canceled due to an "abundance of caution".

In the meantime, our non opening day wasn't a total loss as we gained a half-game on both the Braves and Marlins (1-0 losers to TBR) and deGrom didn't have to pitch in

35-40 degree weather. OK, that's all I got.

Oh, and the Yanx lost.

Still Hoping to play saturday. Nats have three positives, "likely four" with contact tracing coming.

If the Nats are too stoopid to follow protocol forfeit already.

That's too many Nats. Unless they're seriously going to B-Squad it. It's absurd to play and they should absolutely be quarantining them and moving on. The only reason they're not is because MLB doesn't give 1 crap about the players or them having to sit around and wonder and get cold. If they can squeeze a game in without being blamed for exposing the players (note: I didn't say without exposing the players, just being blamed) they will but there doesn't seem to be any good way to to do that.

And it's absurd that there's uncertainty, it's been over a year with this they should clearly be able to say "IF X, then we play, if Y, then we cancel this game and that game and this is what happens."

This is where the B117 variant is making things totally different. The transmissibility is much higher so the risks of someone interacting with people as a close contact are higher.

The way the people have explained it here is that where before if there was a positive test in a household it was quite common for nobody else in the household to get it whereas now they are routinely finding the whole household positive

I'm not sure I buy that 'quite common' for no one else to get it. I bet they just didn't get symptoms, or they were the source of the infection and didn't get it. That it continues to constantly spread anyway suggests the guidance of "oh, you interacted with the spouse of someone infected? meh, you don't need to worry about anything" was dumb.

Not official yet but the Twatterverse is saying now that the entire Mets/Nats series is being canned. Mets now open season Monday night at Philly. If they can avoid giving each other Covid until then.

Here, If one person of a household tests positive everyone gets tested. There's lots of asymptotic positives - especially with children - that are found due to this.

Anyway I'm not an expert in epidemiology or infectious diseases so I won't pretend to be!

But how do you feel about the Nationals?

Seriously.

Make them play back ups or forfeit the games. Now these will likely be made up with some 7-inning double headers, which I loathe as well.

I don't want to see the Mets having to make extra trips to that shithole. If needed, play them at CF, even if WSH is "home".

From mets.com:

[bLOCKQUOTE]WASHINGTON -- The Nationals and Mets will not play baseball this weekend.

Major League Baseball announced on Friday afternoon the remainder of the season-opening series at Nationals Park has been postponed. Three Nats players have tested positive for COVID-19, and the team is continuing its follow-up testing and contact tracing.

Are games that are part of split doubleheaders reduced to seven innings? I'm guessing they probably are, but now you're selling tickets to seven-inning games instead of nine-inning games.
