The Wilpons would have gleefully (think Montgomery Burns) recouped the $20M and maybe spent half of that on a Jason Vargas-type.

Guillorme/Davis as a 3B platoon is now merely the fallback and that doesn't sound too bad to me.

Yeah I'd rather a full season, but if we did have a 100-game season this year and Cano was missing 62 more in 2022, and a third of his bloated salary, well I wouldn't be mad about it.

Who did he think he was fooling and how long did he think he could continue doing it?

You can't cure stupid.

Addition by subtraction. In this market, that $20M goes a lot farther than a guy who hasn't produced an .800 OPS over more than 400 ABs since 2015 and is a defensive liability.

I wasn't even thinking about LeMahieu, but I am now.

I agree with marshmallow that it's just dumb for somebody in Cano's position to do something that cost him a large amount of money in an existing contract when he's probably not getting another one anyway.

One final note. As good as this is for the Mets, I will miss the aesthetics of watching Cano play. The smoothest player we've had since Beltran. Turned the double play so seamlessly. Ridiculously talented player.

He was apologizing for creating a distraction.

I mean, duh.

This is so very like stories of new CEOs taking over a company, and trying to put a new face on everything and turn over a new leaf, but they don't know what the old guy left to break until it breaks.

It's like Bob Iger replacing Michael Eisner and only then realizing what a clusterfuck the new theme park builds were.

Or it's a lot like what President-Elect Biden's life is going to be like in two months.

Enjoyed watching him hit, also, when he was plugged in, he really could stroke a ball and find the hole.

Of course I think the many repeated nagging injuries is a sign of someone who's using el dopa to keep their body from coming apart like the car at the end of the Blues Brothers movie.

Do the Mets now consider someone like Kolten Wong?

Or do they fill the position internally with McNeil or Gimenez?

I wish they had a GM (I assume Sandy is acting in the role for now) and a decision on whether or not there will be a DH.

Sign Springer. Trade Davis/Gimenez for Lindor. Trade a low-level prospect to Colorado and take the Arenado contract off their hands.

1. Lindor - SS

2. Springer - CF

3. Smith - 1B

4. Arenado - 3B

5. Conforto - RF

6. Alonso - DH

7. McNeil - 2B

8. Nimmo - LF

9. Who Cares - C

This is... um... pretty, um... I'm sorry, but I can't stop drooling on my erection.

So, Brodie-grumbling aside... this feels almost as good to hear as the Cohen buy being finalized. Talk about a positive test, amirite, folks?

So, any notion that his productivity and his PED use were perfectly correlating? That he tried to play nice, but after stinking it up the first half of 2019, he went back to the well, and everything since then was juicy?

It's interesting that the two times the Mets have reissued the unofficially retired 24, it's ended badly.

Do they PED test in Winter League ball?

This suspension obviously doesn't carry into the winter leagues as Cano is currently playing for the Dominican side against Puerto Rico in the annual season ending

series that the Winter Leagues have each year.
