Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 What we're looking for here is the longest Consecutive and Active streak of starts On Opening Day for One Team at One PositionThis data includes projected starts that will be made tonight or tomorrow. The all-time leaders have been added on the right and as you can see the catcher owns both the current streak and the all-time mark. The pitcher's position is listed twice because there's a tie there.POSPLAYERTEAMYrsAll-TimeC——————Same1B——————Joe Judge, 17 WSH Senators2B——————Lou Whitaker, 17, DET Tigers3B——————Brooks Robinson, 20, BAL OriolesSS——————Cal Ripken, 14, BAL riolesLF——————Lou Brock, 13, StL CardinalsCF——————Willie Mays, 19 SF GiantsRF——————Roberto Clemente, 15 PIT PiratesP——————Robin Roberts, 12 PHI PhilliesP——————Robin Roberts, 12 PHI PhilliesGo
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 I don't get this. What am I missing? It seems as if you already gave us the answers, except for the catcher, who I'd guess is Molina.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2020 Author Posted July 23, 2020 I gave the All-Time leaders but what we're looking for here are the Active leaders in consecutive OD starts at one position for one team. And, yes, Molina is the answer at catcher in both categories as he will make his 16th start there when the Cardinals play their first 2020 gameHe had previously been in a tie with ChiSox backstop Ray Schalk (1913-27) at 15. Schalk was played by Gordon Clapp in the film EIGHT MEN OUTThe last catcher other than Molina to start on OD for the Cards was Chad Moeller back in 2004btw, no other current catcher has a streak of more than four now that Buster Posey is sitting out 2020POSPLAYERTEAMYrsAll-TimeCYadier MolinaStL16Yadier Molina, StL, 161B——————Joe Judge, 17 WSH Senators2B——————Lou Whitaker, 17, DET Tigers3B——————Brooks Robinson, 20, BAL OriolesSS——————Cal Ripken, 14, BAL riolesLF——————Lou Brock, 13, StL CardinalsCF——————Willie Mays, 19 SF GiantsRF——————Roberto Clemente, 15 PIT PiratesP——————Robin Roberts, 12 PHI PhilliesP——————Robin Roberts, 12 PHI Phillies

Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 I bet Scherzer has started opening day every year he's been in Washington.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 24, 2020 Author Posted July 24, 2020 Arenado = Yes, sixLindor = No. The actual SS leader has three times as many OD starts as does FLAnd, yes, Scherzer is one of the two pitchers with Three consecutive same-team/OD assignments

Scherzer has 6 consecutive years starting for Washington, yes?But Scherzer was NOT the OD starter for the Nats in 2017, Strasburg was.The question involves consecutive starting assignments at each position for one team. Scherzer took the mound for the Nats on Opening Day in '18, '19, and then last night.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2020 Author Posted July 25, 2020 And to round out the field ...Eddie Rosario of the Twins is the left fielder in question. There may be Twins fans who didn't get that one but he's been in LF on OD for Mini soda in every season aside from his first when he was a mid-year call-up.The trade of Mookie Betts cleared the deck for a RF'er to sneak in with a low number and that sneak was the Cubs' Jason Heyward. He's actually started in five straight opening days for the Cubbies but four years ago it was in CF so his RF streak only started after that. And it's easy to miss that this is the start of Justin Verlander's third full(ish) season in Houston following his deadline deal to the Astros in 2017, and it's also the third straight OD starting assignmentPOSPLAYERTEAMYrsAll-TimeCYadier MolinaStL16Yadier Molina, StL, 161BJoey VottoCIN12Joe Judge, 17 WSH Senators2BJose AltuveHOU9Lou Whitaker, 17, DET Tigers3BNolan ArenadoCOL6Brooks Robinson, 20, BAL OriolesSSElvis AndrusTEX12Cal Ripken, 14, BAL riolesLF=#0080FF]Eddie Rosario=#00BFFF]MIN=#00BFFF]5Lou Brock, 13, StL CardinalsCFMike TroutLAA8Willie Mays, 19 SF GiantsRF=#00BFFF]Jason Heyward=#00BFFF]CHC=#00BFFF]3Roberto Clemente, 15 PIT PiratesPMax ScherzerWAS3Robin Roberts, 12 PHI PhilliesP=#00BFFF]Justin Verlander=#00BFFF]HOU=#00BFFF]3Robin Roberts, 12 PHI Phillies
