Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2020 Posted March 24, 2020 As per ESPN, Noah Syndergaard has a torn UCL, needs TJ surgery, out until April 2021 and potentially into next summer.Damn.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2020 Posted March 24, 2020 (edited) I have a bad feeling that everybody's gonna miss the 2020 season. Nice thread title. Edited March 24, 2020 by Guest
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2020 Posted March 24, 2020 FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2020 Posted March 24, 2020 Well they probably don't play much if any of 2020 anyway. But still, fuck.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2020 Posted March 24, 2020 He'll practically be a free agent by the time he's back. So the Mets wont be able to benefit from most of the rest of his contract time and they wont get anywhere near the value they might've gotten for him in a pre free agency trade.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2020 Posted March 24, 2020 And so that basically eats up the remainder of his NYM tenure. He'll be a FA at the end of 2021 and the odds of him actually pitching by the end of 2021 are small. So unless they're big on signing a (then) 29 y/o pitcher coming off both the worst season of his career AND reconstructive ligament surgery, there's a good chance Noah threw his last pitch for the Mets last September.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2020 Posted March 24, 2020 Good thing we let Wheeler go to Philly

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 24, 2020 Posted March 24, 2020 Man, this seemed like it was overdue. No less sucky, but ... .Wait! Silver Lining! There's now room on the roster for out-of-options Paul Sewald!
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2020 Posted March 24, 2020 Sigh.Johnny Lunchbucket wrote:Good thing we let Wheeler go to PhillyBrodie deserves some credit for thinking that a sixth starter was prudent. But he got a 5 and 6 when legit #2's were available. I would gladly swap Porcello and Betances for Bumgarner or Wheeler. And if Brodie was holding on to payroll for a trade that didn't happen, well, he has to answer to the fans for that (even if the Wilpons don't care).
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2020 Posted March 24, 2020 This sucks, but I'm totally taking it in stride. 2020 is probably as good a season as any to miss, and there's a lot of other stuff to worry about.I think Noah will probably pitch for the Mets again, in the second half of the 2021 season. But yeah, his trade value is shot.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2020 Posted March 24, 2020 First a global pandemic, now this.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2020 Posted March 24, 2020 Ready just in time for the 2021 playoffs. And they can re-sign him on the cheap, always a bonus with Jeffy. Win-win.
LWFS Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2020 Posted March 24, 2020 If you're going to lose him for a season, this is the season to lose him. Basically, if they play at all, they're playing 1/2-2/3 of a season. So, practically speaking, you've got 20 starts-- plus whatever else these guys lose to bumps and scratches-- to cobble together. Also, Wacha and Lugo and Gsellman. Also also, David Peterson?
whippoorwill Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2020 Posted March 24, 2020 Yeah Hadji mentioned this. Dammit. At least it's a good year to miss time

Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted March 24, 2020 Posted March 24, 2020 Thor was never really "all that."That Toronto Mets trade pretty much went down in flameslol, what nonsense.I mean, sure you're losing him for an abbreviated season this year, but if they do play, you kinda want Thor for the playoffs. You can cobble together the regular season fine, but that's something else.Of course, the flip is true of 2021, you'd, hopefully, have him for the stretch run and the playoffs.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2020 Posted March 24, 2020 Put it this way: Do you want a rebuilt Thor for a potential 2021 playoff run or would you prefer RA Dickey?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 24, 2020 Posted March 24, 2020 Hey, at least Syndergaard has a UCL to tear. So there's that.
