Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted February 4, 2020 Posted February 4, 2020 There is Joy in Melville today as Newsday has, for the first time, provided the winning cover in the Tabloid Cover Derby! This ends the four-year stranglehold that the Daily News has had on the title since this competition started in 2015. Newsday, with 93 covers this year, had the fewest entries of our three publications. (The Daily News had 114 and the New York Post had 111.)STREAKERS! features Michael Conforto, who also appeared on last year's winner, MIDNIGHT BADNESS. The two consecutive winning covers for Conforto matches a feat previously accomplished by Yoenis Cespedes in 2015 and 2016.2019 CHAMPION COVERSTREAKERS!Newsday, August 10, 2019http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2019/streakers.png>While last year's winner, MIDNIGHT BADNESS, enjoyed a flight on a private jet to Stockholm, budget cuts this year in the Travel Department required STREAKERS! to fly economy class on a commercial flight. Upon landing at Stockholm Arlanda International Airport, our winning cover was escorted by the Swedish Royal Guard to Slottsbacken, the street in front of the Royal Palace, where this year's ceremony was held.http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2019/economy_seat.jpg>http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2019/royal_guard.jpg>The festivities featured Mets legend and broadcaster Keith Hernandez, youthful climate activist Greta Thunberg, Sweden's Princess Madeleine (holding an unidentified baby), CPF receptionist and reality-show star Maja, respelendant in a green dress, and the ghost of Swedish film star Anita Ekberg. Also on hand was a polar bear, because Nils, in the promotions department, was certain that the winning cover would feature Mets rookie sensation Pete Alonso. The expenses incurred in capturing and taming a live polar bear are a large part of the reason for the reduction in the travel budget.http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2019/ceremony2019.jpg>After the ceremony, Maja switched to her business outfit to attend the installation of the winning cover in the lobby of the Kran Pool Forum Internationella Huvudkontoret, the CPF's International Headquarters. Joining Maja behind the desk is her Aunt Gunilla, who has been hanging around the office a lot lately. Also, enjoying her time in the office chair is Ulrika, this year's Intern of the Year.http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2019/lobby2019.jpg>The winning cover is once again available as a shower curtain! You can get a STREAKERS! shower curtain of your own at the CPF Gift Shop. Show your membership card for a 15 per cent discount!http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2019/shower_curtain_streakers.jpg>Last year's winner, MIDNIGHT BADNESS, has joined its predecessors on display at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm, where the four covers are protected around the clock by an armed member of the Swedish Royal Guard. http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2019/ArtMuseum2019.jpg>For appearing on the winning cover, Mets outfielder Michael Conforto will receive a gigantic box of Rice-a-Roni, the San Francisco Treat. To honor his second-place finish, Mets second baseman Robinson Cano will receive a copy of the Tabloid Cover Derby Home Game, available for sale wherever deeply unpopular toys and games are sold.http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/gigantic_rice.png>http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/home_version.png>Thank you to everyone who participated in this year's Tabloid Cover Derby! We'll return for a sixth year of voting in November 2020!http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2019/2019_tcd_005.png>A special thanks to our various CPF spokesmodels who traveled around New York City with the winning covers. We appreciate their service as tireless promoters of the Tabloid Cover Derby.http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2019/2_01.png>http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2019/2_02a.png>http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2019/2_03b.png>http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2019/2_04a.png>http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2019/2_05b.png>http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2019/2_06b.png>http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2019/2_07b.png>http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2019/2_08b.png>http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2019/2_09a.png>http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2019/3_01.png>http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2019/3_02.png>http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2019/3_03.png>http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2019/3_04.png>http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2019/3_05.png>http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2019/3_06.png>http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2019/3_07.png>http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2019/3_08.png>http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2019/4_01.png>http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2019/4_02.png>http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2019/4_03.png>http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2019/4_04.png>http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2019/5_01.png>http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2019/5_02.png>http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2019/6_01.png>
Guest 41Forever Guests Posted February 4, 2020 Posted February 4, 2020 There are so many glorious things going on in those photos that it will take time to properly examine the details! Love the yearbook rack in the lobby!Brilliant work, as usual!!!
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted February 4, 2020 Posted February 4, 2020 You had me at Joy in Melville.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted February 4, 2020 Posted February 4, 2020 As if you have to tell us that Slottsbacken is the street in front of the Royal Palace.Thank you for the outstanding review of the festivities.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted February 4, 2020 Posted February 4, 2020 As always, exceptional coverage of one of the most important international events of the year.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted February 4, 2020 Posted February 4, 2020 I've asked for this for Christmas a few years now, still never landed one:[FIMG=475]http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/home_version.png[/FIMG]

Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted February 4, 2020 Posted February 4, 2020 Maja doesn't seem thrilled with Ulrika.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted February 4, 2020 Author Posted February 4, 2020 Yeah, there does seem to be something going on there.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted February 4, 2020 Posted February 4, 2020 It's amazing how efficiently BG runs this contest each year, and how stupidly our country runs our elections.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted February 4, 2020 Posted February 4, 2020 I'm all giggly. Bra jobbat!
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted February 4, 2020 Posted February 4, 2020 I kinda like Ulrika.Other than the obvious voter mistakes of advancing MANE MAN over FOLLY RANCHER, and THEY PULL YA BACK IN over SINKO DE MAYO, a darn good contest
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 5, 2020 Posted February 5, 2020 Yup. Great work. And a good winner, despite my anti-Newsday bias.I sometimes have second thoughts about moving the offices from Lefrak City to Stockholm — the expansion of our marketing footprint has been slow-going — but the continued participation of the royal family has made it all worthwhile.
Guest 41Forever Guests Posted February 6, 2020 Posted February 6, 2020 I'm going to assume that nothing we see in the lobby is there randomly. Is that the famous jackalope from Wall Drug? That thing shattered my Mets gnome!

Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2020 Posted February 6, 2020 Does Nils still have a job? Poor guy must have been panicking when only one Pete cover made the final four.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2020 Author Posted February 6, 2020 Nils is working at IKEA in the stockroom.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2020 Posted February 6, 2020 The poor guy.https://assets.bwbx.io/images/users/iqjWHBFdfxIU/i5NMxq0APaj8/v1/1000x-1.jpghttps://assets.bwbx.io/images/users/iqjWHBFdfxIU/i5NMxq0APaj8/v1/1000x-1.jpg>
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2020 Posted February 6, 2020 What's even worse for Nils is that his left arm is artificial following a "mishap" during the early stages of training with the polar bear.
