Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 27, 2019 Posted October 27, 2019 Supposedly his (football) teammates loved him, so who knows. My point was that that sort of celebrating despite the team's position in the game, one which seemed so out of place to me then, is now commonplace including in the one sport that used to shun that sort of stuff.Meanwhile, a funny thing has happened on the way to a Nationals domination.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted October 28, 2019 Posted October 28, 2019 Let's hope the Road Warrior motif going on here ends on Tuesday?
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted October 28, 2019 Posted October 28, 2019 Hey Washington fans. Nicely done.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 28, 2019 Posted October 28, 2019 So, is Houston going with Seaver or George Stone in Game Six?
HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted October 28, 2019 Posted October 28, 2019 If Houston wins this, one storyline will be that Urquidy came up bigger than Ross in their respective starts.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted October 29, 2019 Posted October 29, 2019 I know the 1996 World Series also had all road-team wins through game 5, but has any postseason series gone to game 6 without a home win?
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted October 29, 2019 Author Posted October 29, 2019 If the Astros win tonight, the Nationals are done.If the Nationals win tonight, we get a Game Seven.Win-Win (unless Natlimination is your foremost priority).
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted October 29, 2019 Posted October 29, 2019 My rooting interest: Nationals win tonight, extra inning pitching duel tomorrow!
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 29, 2019 Posted October 29, 2019 I'm rooting for Houston, sure.On the other hand, they could be a dominant team for years that'll be tough for anybody to get past.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted October 29, 2019 Posted October 29, 2019 (edited) The most annoying thing about watching a World Series - any World Series: Do the announcers ever talk about players' season stats? Or at least show them? Because obviously, whatever a player did in his last three games is much more meaningful than what he did over the first 162 games. Edited October 29, 2019 by Guest

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 29, 2019 Posted October 29, 2019 Nats have as many runs thru five (now 5-2/3) innings tonight as they did in all three games at home combined: Three
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted October 29, 2019 Posted October 29, 2019 If HOU loses the series, remember the AB when Altuve wildly swung at 3 pitches in a row with 1st and 3d and 1 out.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 29, 2019 Posted October 29, 2019 I wouldn't have called that (the 1st base interference). If the ball hits him a stride or two earlier then, yes. But in his final stride where else is he supposed to be?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 29, 2019 Posted October 29, 2019 Adam Eaton has a lot of Mickey Callaway in him.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 29, 2019 Posted October 29, 2019 MAKEA FUCKINGCALL!!!!!!!
LWFS Old-Timey Member Posted October 29, 2019 Posted October 29, 2019 7th inning of a World Series Game 6 might not be the best time to go pointlessly red-ass, Davey Boy.
Guest 41Forever Guests Posted October 29, 2019 Posted October 29, 2019 Wow. A lot of bad umpiring there. And Martinez shouldn't let himself get tossed in a World Series. First ejection since Whitey Herzog?
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 29, 2019 Posted October 29, 2019 So they waited five minutes before deciding to go to the headphones ... and then they spent about the same amount of time ON the headphones ... all for a call which they knew in advance was NOT subject to review!!But it will be limited and quick ...
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 29, 2019 Posted October 29, 2019 Justin Verlander is staring down the barrel of an 0-6 / 6.39 World Series record."That's kinda bad." — Paul Sewald
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 29, 2019 Posted October 29, 2019 If you're the Nats you GOTTA be sending Strasburg out there for the 9th.He's at about 7 innings worth of pitches thru 8 and besides, what are you saving him for ... a start next week?!?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 29, 2019 Posted October 29, 2019 And the Astros are going pretty meekly.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 29, 2019 Posted October 29, 2019 NOW you're removing him?!?!?
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 29, 2019 Posted October 29, 2019 So as the better-announcing Buck once put it: 'And we'll see you tomorrow night'
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted October 29, 2019 Author Posted October 29, 2019 The two best words in sports: Mets win.But “Game Seven” will work.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted October 30, 2019 Posted October 30, 2019 Hopefully, that was the last game for Strasburg in a WSH uniform.Verlander doesn't deserve Kate Upton. As much as I dislike anyone associated with WSH, Turner has my respect for calling out Torre ("he's right there!") who only shows his face for tea, charity, and to stop the Mets from wearing what they want to wear on 9/11.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 30, 2019 Posted October 30, 2019 I'm not quite sure what they expected Torre to do. I don't think I want to live in a world where some exec in the stands is empowered to overrule calls on the field. As it was the umps were already too indecisive: they made the call right away but then discussed it for five minutes AND THEN went to the headphones for five more even though it's not a reviewable play.It was a judgement call: Make one and stick to it!Tonight will be the 40th WS Game 7 in MLB history. The home team is 19-20
