bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2019 Posted October 26, 2019 This has been going on for decades and will continue unless MLB: cuts the amount of commercial time between innings (eliminating just one 30-second ad per break saves 18 minutes--you can do more of the split-screen ads to recoup the revenue) and starts the games at 7 ("What about the poor West Coast!" "STFU, 2/3 of the country lives in the eastern time zone and I'd rather miss the beginning of a game than the end.") Maybe the new 3-batters per reliever rule will help.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 26, 2019 Posted October 26, 2019 It's 2019, and Fernando Rodney is pitching in the World Series.

bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2019 Posted October 26, 2019 You're right, 9 minutes. I'll take it. Wait until tonight as HOU goes with a "bullpen game".

Money is the end. So long as tbey continue to make more money than ever, what do they care if nobody watches?
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2019 Posted October 26, 2019 They should care because the model they've chosen -- increased money in the short term in exchange for interminably long games and ceding full time-slot control to the networks -- isn't sustainable.Depressed ratings lead either more immediately to 'make-goods' where MLB rebates the network -- either directly or through reduced rates in future transactions -- and then down the road when the next contract comes up for negotiation. And that's before you even get into whether you're essentially pre-alienating future fans which in turn could lead to reduced revenue.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2019 Posted October 26, 2019 Well tonight at least they've got the first three innings completed in (slightly) under an hour ... so there's that.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2019 Posted October 26, 2019 The Nats have just been Rodney'dIt was only a matter of time.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 26, 2019 Posted October 26, 2019 My wife has never rooted for the Mets to win as hard as she is right now rooting for the Nats to lose. I don't know who she likes more right now — Alex Bregman or Fernando Rodney.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2019 Posted October 26, 2019 Dark blue Nats unis aren't great. Not that the original was any good. But, number font entirely too thick. Was same issue with latter-day Expos jerseys, after they perfected the thin and stylish uni number
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2019 Posted October 26, 2019 The problem is that the Nats had a lengthy winning streak with those unis so they've stuck with them for the entire post.Maybe that'll end after tonight. And obviously that sub-3 Hour pace went away long ago and this one will be closer to (though at least under) 4:00
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2019 Author Posted October 26, 2019 The Series whose games never end will go on and on...
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2019 Posted October 26, 2019 Home teams are now 17-17 in this year's post-season play. The Houston-v-Tampa ALDS series was a home team 'Sweep' (5-0).This series, so far, has been an 0-4 'anti-sweep'.

But one of the few things I like about the Nats are their home whites.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 27, 2019 Posted October 27, 2019 Asdrubal Cabrera, despite not debuting as a Nat until August 6, was 11th on the team in bWAR.He's also hitting .385 in the World Series. I suspect he must be hurt.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted October 27, 2019 Posted October 27, 2019 "The warrior", "the toughest MF on the planet", "the ultimate gamer", Max Scherzer, is not starting tonight b/c of recurring back/neck issues.Joe Ross gets the ball.I don't want to belittle his injuries but the local media gives us nonstop crap about how tough he is and now he isn't starting a Series game. He really must be hurt.

bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted October 27, 2019 Posted October 27, 2019 Trump will be in the building, maybe he'll want to pitch.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 27, 2019 Posted October 27, 2019 (edited) Trump will be in the building, maybe he'll want to pitch.Did you see where he doesn't want to throw out the first pitch because they'll make him wear the kevlar vest and all that and "it'll make me look fat".Yeah, that's what'll do it! bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted October 27, 2019 Posted October 27, 2019 If he waddled onto the field the boos would be overwhelming but they'd play "Hail to the Chief" very loudly the way they play music whenever we chant "Lets Go Mets".BTW, the Washington Post reported that Manfred played golf yesterday with Trump and Lindsay Graham.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted October 27, 2019 Posted October 27, 2019 Why couldn't this game have started at 7:30? I know that football rules and NFL games run longer than 3 hours but everything was finished by 7:30. Instead, first pitch is at 8:08.

LWFS Old-Timey Member Posted October 27, 2019 Posted October 27, 2019 I'm not typically one to get all red-ass, but... post-HR choreography in the dugout when said HR only puts you within three of tying, and said HR BARELY made it out of the damn park, AND you're about to lose your third straight at home... well, it ain't a great look.
