Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 30, 2019 Posted October 30, 2019 Will Harris: not my idea.I just wanted to make that clear.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted October 30, 2019 Posted October 30, 2019 Any other manager: I have one of the best pitchers in the game available so I'll bring him in and then I have my closer to back him up.Hinch: I'll manage this game like it's mid-June.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 30, 2019 Posted October 30, 2019 Managers don't compress their staff in critical situations any more, it's true. I don't think Hinch is alone in that. But yeah, it's maddening.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted October 30, 2019 Posted October 30, 2019 This guy, Yordan -- this is what a 44's supposed to look like.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted October 30, 2019 Posted October 30, 2019 It's getting really Asdrubally around here
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 30, 2019 Posted October 30, 2019 Well, that's likely Rendon's last plate appearance as a National. The Yankees probably already have his uniform measured.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted October 30, 2019 Posted October 30, 2019 Nice call ump on strike 3 to Correa. Nationals fans have been bitching all series but that call was brutal.

He's a Texas native (as we've heard a few times) (I know that Dallas is far from Houston), the Rangers stink but they have a new ballpark so maybe they'll want him to help filling it up.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 30, 2019 Posted October 30, 2019 Hey look! It's Joe Smith! That J.J. Putz deal may yet turn out OK for the Mets. #faith
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 30, 2019 Posted October 30, 2019 Do you think they'll all show up at the White House for President Huntsman?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 30, 2019 Posted October 30, 2019 Of course Druby makes the first out of the ninth.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 30, 2019 Posted October 30, 2019 Well look at it this way: the Braves crashed and burned in the post-season.
Guest 41Forever Guests Posted October 30, 2019 Posted October 30, 2019 I like it when National League teams win their first-ever championship, or their first in decades and decades.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 30, 2019 Posted October 30, 2019 The last championship in the city of Washington, the last four innings were thrown by Walter Johnson, who got the win out of the pen in the 12th inning.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted October 30, 2019 Author Posted October 30, 2019 NL wins the decade, six World Series championships to four.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted October 30, 2019 Posted October 30, 2019 The opening Spring Training game in West Palm Beach between Washington and Houston is going to be nuts!
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2019 Posted October 31, 2019 All done. Lets hire a manager.P.S. A big wtf To Astros fans who wear or carry Yordan Alvarez ROY messages. Player came up like your team, short
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2019 Posted October 31, 2019 Bottom line: the Nats manager put the game in Corbin's hands. The Astros manager trusted the game to somebody not named Gerrit Cole. At least he'll be well rested for whichever teams signs him.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2019 Posted October 31, 2019 So everyone here probably already knows this by now but still -- this WS marked the first time the road team won every single game of a series that went seven games. Any seven game series. WS. Playoffs. Whatever. This never happened before in MLB. Or in the NBA. Or in the NHL.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 31, 2019 Posted October 31, 2019 And congratulations to Bryce Harper, whose goal of bringing a championship to DC was realized.

G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2019 Author Posted October 31, 2019 From SI, Gerrit Cole channeling Dennis Miller signing off for Weekend Update (“I am outta here!”)Twenty-two of the men on the World Series roster are under contract for next season, but that number does not include Cole, who warmed up in the sixth inning but never entered the game. He already seems emotionally uprooted from Houston; when media relations head Gene Dias asked him to speak to the assembled press after the game, he hesitated. “I have to do it?” Cole said. “I'm not an employee of the team.” Eventually he acquiesced. “As a representative of myself …” he said. He appeared for the interview wearing not Astros gear but a cap bearing the logo of the agency that represents him, Boras Corporation.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2019 Posted October 31, 2019 Dude wants to get paid and doesn't care where it comes from.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2019 Author Posted October 31, 2019 During the World Series prior to his prospective free agency kicking in, Edgardo Alfonzo made an appearance at the Mets flagship clubhouse store on 42nd St. The lines were not prohibitive, but management tried to enforce a limit on how much signing he would do of any one person's stuff. When one among us in the group of three I came with dared to return to his table for a second signature despite the rules saying it was a no-no, that person used a highly apologetic tone for daring to flout boundaries.“I don't work for them,” Fonzie declared as he signed away. He may have been referring to the retailer, but I had the sense he was talking about his soon to be former employer.
