Y'know, if announcers are going to tell us how getting runners in from 3rd w/less than two outs is a "lost art" (Keith just did it here but he's hardly the only one) it would be

nice if they'd provide some evidence that it's actually the case. Are modern percentages worse as compared to previous eras? Maybe, but I have a sneaky suspicion that

such a claim can't be backed up by data.

It's pretty intuitive if you consider the ballooning strikeout rate.

Maybe. But there are also fewer 160 lb middle infielders who had trouble getting the ball out of the infield.

And, if things are really down these days, just tell me what the numbers say. Don't take it personally but

I'm not taking your (meaning: announcers) word for it just because you say so.

Loved his on-field interview. I didn't realize he was leading the league in hitting in the second half. These guys are fired up!

Was there anybody you wanted up more than J.D. Davis there?

Best BA in MLB since the ASB ... so, no.

So the seriously, I just used a racist word when I really meant "Guardians" IW'd Alonso following the Sac Bunt (1-out/runner on 2nd) which was followed by Conforto essentially switching places with him on the non-GiDP

And then seeing as how Conforto eventually scored the winning run, I'd say that their strategy of putting the winning run on base pretty much backfired on them.

Pretty questionable considering Alfonso had been a wind machine all evening.

Yup, hadn't hit a fair ball all night (K, Foul-out, K, K). And it's not like you're walking him to get to a LHB to face the lefty Hand (well, I guess they were

w/Conforto but they still had to face at least one more batter) Instead they had to face the leading BA in the second half and a guy who kills LHPs

Dom has turned into the team's head cheerleader.

I can think of no finer victory cigar/rally mascot.

Dude has been emblematic of the team's likability/can-do exuberance since ST, where he best-bro'd his biggest rival for playing time (and the guy whose continued success will still likely push him out of the organization) instead of going the totally-understandable play-me-or-trade-me route.

God, these guys are fun. Except for the bullpen, which I still don't really trust.

This feels like a team on a tear that we watch longingly from afar doing things we wish the Mets would do with players we wish the Mets had.

But it's our fucking team, our fucking Mets.

Ah enjoy Belgium, it's a much under-rated spot, one of best friends lives in Brussels and we have had some great fun there over the years.

Haven't gone to Bruges but by all accounts it's great fun too.

This was the best game yet, still amazed at this team coming out of nowhere

Mrs Lefty and I said the same thing last night. It's a weird feeling to have as a Met fan, but we just KNEW he was going to come through there.

I keep thinking I'm going to wake up and they're actually 16 games under .500. But no.
