Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted January 11, 2019 Posted January 11, 2019 I'm in favor of exploring ways of getting Frazier off the club somehow though it seems we still need some RH pop.I'd totally do that Sonny Gray trade. I'd do a Frazier-for-Frazier trade just because
A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted January 11, 2019 Posted January 11, 2019 I'd do it, too, but aren't the NYYs kinda set with Andujar?
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted January 11, 2019 Posted January 11, 2019 They've kind of implied that they'd like to move Andujar off of third base.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted January 11, 2019 Posted January 11, 2019 Cano isn't moving off 1b until he can't play 2b anymore. And nobody is taking Frazier off our hands. And they clearly don't think McNeil can replicate his last season. If Lowrie is healthy, I think this move forces Frazier to 1b to start the season, and he'll stay there unless and until Alonzo hits his way up a month or 2 later (with Super2 status intact). If/When Alonzo comes up, a few things will happen: (1) whoever is not hitting between Lowrie and Frazier becomes the IF backup; (2) they're going to use McNeil in the OF, too, which will force Dom Smith back to AAA; and (3) there will be no room for Rivera, and he probably doesn't have any options left, so he (or Frazier) gets traded or cut. This signing comes down to Lowrie taking ABs from Frazier, and some from McNeil and Rivera, too, before ultimately replacing Rivera on the roster... which I'm all fine with. Could they have used $10m better? I don't know; neither do you. lineup3b Lowrie#Lf Conforto*2b Cano*C RamosRF Nimmo*1b Frazier (until Alonzo comes up)Cf LagaresP-ss Rosario bench:d'Arnaud (c,1b)McNeil* (Ut/If-Of)Broxton (of)D. A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted January 11, 2019 Posted January 11, 2019 1-5 looks pretty decent and we should have guys getting on-base at an above-average clip. 6-9 looks like caca doo-doo.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted January 11, 2019 Posted January 11, 2019 when Alonzo comes up and Cespedes comes back (replacing Frazier and Lagares), it has the makings of a great lineup, particularly if Rosario continues the progress he showed toward the end of last season.I'm also assuming JDDavis still has options left. If not, he takes Rivera's role and Rivera's out from the outset.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted January 11, 2019 Posted January 11, 2019 I think Brodie is setting up to trade for Nolan Arenado. Frazier, Giminez, McNeil and Dominic Smith go back."We'll give you an entire infield for just your third baseman!"

LWFS Old-Timey Member Posted January 11, 2019 Posted January 11, 2019 If Frazier gives you anything with the bat, Alonso handles himself decently, and Rosario shows even mild offensive improvement... this becomes a very interesting lineup.
DocTee Old-Timey Member Posted January 12, 2019 Posted January 12, 2019 I think Mickey likes Rosario at the top of the lineup, and his run from August through the end of the season, where he mostly batted there, suggests he can handle that slot.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted January 13, 2019 Posted January 13, 2019 fwiw, mlb.com is doing a ranking by position project and we somehow wound up employing two of the top four 2nd basemen in the game today.1. Jose Altuve2. Jed Lowrie3. Whit Merrifield4. Robinson Cano5. Chris Taylor6. Scooter Gennett7. Joey Wendle8. Gleyber Torres9. Ben Zobrist10. DJ LeMahieuNow all we have to do is effect some sort of rule change which allows us to play them both at the same position at the same time. The rankings were done "based on player performance over the last two seasons, a number of offensive and defensive metrics, both advanced data and traditional numbers and analysis by the MLB Network research team."Apparently there was some sort of show that went along with this list's release (and also their 3B list upon which we placed no one) which aired Saturday night on MLBN with input from a number of their on-air slate of personalities, a show I suspect will be re-run multiple times over the coming week for those so inclined. Their choices at other positions will air over the next several weeks.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted January 13, 2019 Author Posted January 13, 2019 It's the "Top 10 Right Now" series. Saturday night, 9 and 10 PM. 3 more weeks, next week is Catchers and RFers.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted January 13, 2019 Posted January 13, 2019 Another replay tonight at midnight if anyone wants to DVR.

Mex17 Old-Timey Member Posted January 15, 2019 Posted January 15, 2019 When is this thing going to be official?

A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted January 16, 2019 Posted January 16, 2019 BVW calls him "the perfect player" for this roster, right now. Amazingly, not a whiff of the Mets interest was leaked, even though BVW said the Mets started reaching out to his people in November.BVW: "Jedi, welcome to the Mets. And may the force be with us all."
A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted January 16, 2019 Posted January 16, 2019 The two are very chummy. Apparently they met ~15 years ago and "Jedi" was a former client at BVW's agency.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted January 16, 2019 Posted January 16, 2019 "He's going to be in the lineup pretty much every day."
A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted January 16, 2019 Posted January 16, 2019 BVW talking about Jed playing second, third, and short (spoken in that order), and said he will play all over the field and keeps sighting his versatility. He mentioned that the team has some older dudes in the infield who should not be expected to play 162 games, and said they will need more days off. BVW also spoke of having depth for when someone goes down w/ injury. Of course he's not going to say, "I'm still trying to trade Todd Frazier's ass," but it sounds like Brody Van Spraytan wants to rotate all these guys.
