Sandy gets a lot of grief around here, but he deserves some credit for managing to get the moderately useful Devin Mesoraco for the utterly useless Matt Harvey.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2018 Posted June 18, 2018 Glad he got anything at all for him.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2018 Posted June 18, 2018 It was the right thing to do. Harvey may right himself some day, but he will hit free agency before that happens. Mesoraco has been a net positive, and will be a big positive if his BABIP regresses to the mean.If there was a mistake, it was that the readiness of Vargas to come off the DL and jump into the rotation at that time was overestimated. But Vargas will outperform Harvey the rest of the way.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 18, 2018 Posted June 18, 2018 And since the Mets have his UCL and his rib, they can clone him if necessary.
Guest 41Forever Guests Posted June 18, 2018 Posted June 18, 2018 It's heartbreaking. I know he's a goofball, but a lot of them are goofballs. He was a special talent, one of the best pitchers in baseball, and it's sad to see him taken down by injuries -- and maybe his own inability to change the way he pitches based on his physical changes. I don't rejoice in his struggles.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2018 Posted June 18, 2018 Goofball? Okily-dokily, I guess.Gosh.

Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2018 Posted June 18, 2018 But is it worth it to clone him if his arm and rib are going to fall apart again? I guess the second time around we'd could trade him before that happens.I think other teams would be on to us though. We'd have to disguise him somehow."Now pitching for the Mets, Fatt Barvey..."

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 18, 2018 Posted June 18, 2018 Yeah, but they can trade the clone at 24 at peak value!

Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2018 Posted June 27, 2018 Some controversy regarding his selected walk-up songs. Selected by the Braves organist, not him.[tweet:2lfhy92c] [/tweet:2lfhy92c]
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 27, 2018 Posted June 27, 2018 Maybe a little trolling is a bad thing. If anything is going to turn Harvey into Harvey again, it's going to be raising his level of anger above his level of self-pity.#psychology

When he has a stretch of 3+ starts with a K/9 above 9 I'll believe he's "better".
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2018 Posted July 22, 2018 Harv has actually been doing fairly well since the trade [5-3; 3.64; 1.17 over 12 starts] and better still if you ignore those first couple starts for Cincy [~2.40 ERA over last 6 starts/34 IP] but today's clunker vs Pittsburgh [8 earned on 8 hits, 2 HR in 3-2/3 IP ... ouch!] isn't going to help him or help the (43-56) Reds who are hoping to re-flip him before the deadline.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 22, 2018 Posted July 22, 2018 Yeah, that's what Justine told me was an upside to the Mets moving fast with Familia. He couldn't really add much to his CV with a few more good appearances, but one bedshit and the market could drop out on him.
