Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 Hey Alex Cobb is still available!Who am I kidding. This probably means Montero makes the club.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 Vargas having the surgery tomorrow. They're going to remove the fractured bone. Newsday wrote:Mets lefthander Jason Vargas will have surgery Tuesday to remove a fractured bone from his right hand, the team announced Sunday night. Removal of the small bone is the usual treatment for the injury.Vargas will begin throwing again about five days later, though it’s not clear how much of the regular season he might miss. The Mets don’t need a fifth starter until April 4, 15 days after Vargas’ operation.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 I'm no doctor, but that seems like a pretty large bone to simply remove. Does someone who's given up this bone notice that it's missing? It's a good thing it's not on his pitching hand. I wonder if they would have taken a different approach if it was?
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 I think they just remove the broken off fragment.
Guest 41Forever Guests Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 Harvey scoffs at your tiny hamate bone and throws his now-removed rib on the table.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 If nothing else, the Mets are good at disassembling their players.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 maybe we could build a new pitcher from the removed parts. And Legos.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 He won't be the first guy to play minus his hamate bone. It's a common baseball injury.Whenever there's a hand surgery the pesky little hamate seems to be the culprit.

Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 Wait. So if he's removed the broken bone, why is he still out 2-6 weeks?Tape that shit up and get right back in there. Ronnie Lott would never stand for this.

A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 Sounds like he might not miss any time.https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/03/nl-notes-diamondbacks-nats-mets.htmlEven though Mets left-hander Jason Vargas will undergo surgery on his right hand Tuesday, he might not miss any regular-season time, Tim Britton of The Athletic tweets. It’s not as if the soft-tossing Vargas is going to have to regain lost velocity, manager Mickey Callaway noted – “It’s not going to be too hard to go back and get his 84 again,†he said – while GM Sandy Alderson essentially expressed no concern over the situation. “If he can catch the ball coming back from the catcher, he’s probably good to go,†Alderson offered.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2018 Posted March 22, 2018 All the time Vargas isn't missing Montero is. As alluded to in his Expectations thread, Rafael has been diagnosed with a torn UCL in his pitching elbow and will likely require TJS.
A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2018 Posted March 22, 2018 Wild timing. The decision on what to do with him gets made, and the Mets no longer risk losing him and can see what they have in 12-18 months, I guess.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2018 Posted March 22, 2018 So he likely won't pitch again until late in 2019 at the earliest. If he remains a Met, he'll be on the 60-day DL during the course of the 2018 and 2019 seasons, but if I understand correctly, he'd take up a 40-man roster spot during the off-season?
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2018 Posted March 22, 2018 He has one option left. Is Montero worth a 40 man spot?

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 22, 2018 Author Posted March 22, 2018 You can't remove an injured guy from the 40 anyhow. The book closes on him for 2018, but he'll remain on the roster.

I suspect he gets cut next offseason to keep him from impacting the 40 then (along with the negotiated retirement of David Wright)
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 22, 2018 Author Posted March 22, 2018 It doesn't really remove him from the 40. It just keeps him from counting against the 40-man limit. For all other purposes, he's a man on the 40, with all rights and privileges, only moreso.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2018 Posted March 22, 2018 Conforto, meanwhile, has reason to hope that his return will come sooner rather than later.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2018 Posted March 24, 2018 Jason Vargas is in the Emergency Room. With a stomach virus.http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/mets/mets-jason-vargas-lands-emergency-room-stomach-virus-article-1.3892588
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2018 Posted April 3, 2018 Swarzak to the DL with an oblique strain, Robles up.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 25, 2018 Author Posted April 25, 2018 Vargas went four innings for Vegas Monday eve, allowing three runs, which is better than more than a few pitchers for the 51s this season. All the runs came in the third. He's rejoining the Mets tonight and is expected to be activated and take the start Saturday.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 Asdrubal not starting tonight because a hamstring is barking.Woof.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 27, 2018 Author Posted May 27, 2018 Wilmer returning to New York to be examined for lower back soreness.#BarwisMethods
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted May 28, 2018 Posted May 28, 2018 Apparently, Robles is with the team and will be activated on Monday. I really don't care if he's healthy and there is a lack of healthy pitchers, there is no way that Robles should ever pitch again for the Mets. I would rather have Doug Sisk pitch for this team and I don't mean Sisk from 1984 I mean now and he's 60.
