Same. If he gets more than 100 AB, something has gone horribly wrong or REALLY really right.

I only see the horribly wrong side.

I went with, "Okay I guess". I look at Gonzalez as a reasonably cheap insurance policy should Dom Smith not be ready to take over the position. If Dom does well, the Gonzo can spell him and hopefully provide a lefty bat off the bench. If Gonzalez no longer can produce, rthen at least he didn't cost any players and reasonably little money.

In that Dodger picture he looks fatter than Smith was last year.

Smith would do well to become what Gonzalez was. The question is who will be more Gonzalez-like in 2018.

Lots of fans couldn't wait for the Duda Era to end but it appears the Mets pushed it.

Without knowing the details of the deal, I would argue that other things require our attention first. But it may look like a sensible precaution in the long run.

I think I like his politics and thoughtfulness more than I'll like anything he does on a ball field in 2018.

I like how "meh" is just a touch above indifference, while "feh" is just a touch below. I should have incorporated "meh" into the poll.

I think the lack of commitment, both in years and dollars, is why nobody took a negative position.

The composition of the Opening Day 25-man roster is hard to project at this point. My main concern is the roster spot that Gonzalez will potentially take up, but if he makes the team then I guess he'll have earned the spot. Spring training will be interesting.

A-Gon's presence on the roster might be enough to motivate Smith to get into better shape. If A-Gon shows he still has a few hits left in him, he either pushes Smith back to AAA (if Smith doesn't earned the starting 1b job) or is a useful LH bat off the bench, at least until Conforto returns. If A-Gon shows nothing much, he's making minimum wage and can get cut without a backward glance. I have the same expectations for A-Gon as i do for David Wright... i don't expect anything, but if he can still play, he'll be useful. I would give 1/2 a meh, but that's not an option so i chose "indifferent". Because i don't give a full "meh".

Well, he's a Met now. So passing his physical simply means he is an injury waiting to happen.

I did not know that!

Seriously, you guys are getting too funny. There are too many funny posts to add a quote to that opinion and I refuse to play favorites.

Did Ray Ramirez administer it? If so, all bets are off.

Ray Ramirez doesn't work for the Mets, so I hope not.

Our doctors have been performing the physicals, right?

now that i hear that that A-Gon is being granted the starting 1bman spot going into camp (or rather, its his to lose), and that they are PLANNING for Smith to be sent down, i'm downgrading my indifference on the deal to a negative "feh". Its one thing for A-Gon to come into camp as insurance, and as motivation for Smith, and to help groom the kid, but to give him the preference as the starting 1bman? Giving up on a 22-year old with real minor-league production? That's just... stupid.
