  1. If you say so I believe you but if the guy doesn't reach base he shouldn't count as LOB. That's messed up.
  2. Yancy Street Gang wrote: Well, he doesn't get "credit" for the base, but at the end of the inning, there's one guy left on base, and it's the guy who reached on the fielder's choice. Is that true? The batter is counted as LOB even though he didn't reach base? That's not right.
  3. Diamond Dad wrote: It's great to have a scorecard of a game to look back on. I have one hanging on the wall of my office in a frame -- along with the ticket stub from the game -- September 17, 1986. Last out was Chico Walker: "4-3" I took the scorecards from the first games my kids attended, put the ticket stubs and a picture of them at that game on a board, had them mounted and framed. The kids like them but I like them better.
  4. Yancy Street Gang wrote: I show the batter reaching first on a fielder's choice. In the runner's box, I'd put the 6-4 in the second base position, maybe with an FO next to it. I used to do this too but technically the batter doesn't reach first and it looks weird, like the inning ended when the runner got picked off or something after the batter reached base safely. Maddening.
  5. Centerfield wrote: 1. When you turn the lineup over in one inning, what do you guys do? What I do (let's say it's the 4th inning) is to continue in the column for the 5th, and then put a line to show where the 4th ended. In the 5th, I just use the same column again. Is this how it's supposed to be done? I do the same as you Centerfield wrote: 2. Advancing on throws: I draw a line and then note it "OT" (on throw). I'm almost certain this isn't right. Instead of 'OT' I'll write '4-3' or whatever the play was. Centerfield wrote: 3. Runners advancing. If Reyes moves from second to third on a Beltran single, I draw the line, then note between 2B and 3B "1B-8" signifying single by the CF. If Reyes scores from second on a Beltran single, I put the same notation next to third base showing that Reyes went from second to home. Is this right? I do a very similar thing, everyone has their own style. My bugaboo is an inning-ending forceout. What do you do for the batter? The runner is out 6-4. I write the 6-4 in the batter's box but then it looks like there were 4 outs in the inning.
  6. What CF said. Dammit.
  7. The sad thing is we stole that win from them last night and then politely handed it back.
  8. Yancy Street Gang wrote: Maybe he doesn't like Pelfrey because he's not Hispanic. Hispanic? I thought Omar's criteria was that the last name had to end in a vowel. 'Y' is sort of a vowel isn't it?
  9. cleonjones11 wrote: Bring up Pelfrey NOW..He reminds me of that huge country boy pitcher who throws to Roy Hobbs in the Natural. Strike out the Whammer!! Yeah! Bring him up NOW! Fuck the future, blow his arm out TONIGHT! We're only 3 games in front and its already the second week of May! What is wrong with Omar? What the hell is he waiting for??!!
  10. Sorry I couldn't find the original thread so I started this one. A baseball signed by several members of the '86 team. Noticeably missing are Keith Hernandez, Darryl Strawberry, Bob Ojeda, wally Backman, Davey Johnson among others. I was thinking this thing would go for $100.00 tops but its at $152.50 and rising... Granted its got Doc and Sid, Jesse and Darling etc., but minus those other names I don't think its worth even a hundo.
  11. Willets Point wrote: ="soupcan"]="metirish"]... I will jump through the telly and rip his head apart.. Someone tell irish we call it a 'TV' in the States. No it's charming for him to use his own lingo. We do that and the next thing you know he'll be singing The Star Spangled Banner in Gaelic!
  12. My friend and I thought it was a lock that they would not get swept in that Philly series in '86 and we wanted to see them clinch. We drove down from Syracuse that morning to see the game. As Yancy said - there were no real problem teams for the Mets that year but we sure as hell weren't too pleased with them on our long ride back to school that night.
  13. metirish wrote: ... I will jump through the telly and rip his head apart.. Someone tell irish we call it a 'TV' in the States. No worries from me about this series. -I think we've got a real solid team. -Pedro in game1, Glavine in Game 2, Trachsel's gonna get on track sooner or later who's to say it's not now? -WE are the team with one of the best records in the majors. THEY are chasing US. -I like playing a good team that's playing well. It shows how good my team is and makes for an exciting game. C'mon people! LET'S GO METS!
  14. Pedro or Sliwa? Personally whenever I would run into a pack of those Guardian Angels they made me feel less safe. Always seemed like they were made up of a bunch of hoods who were in the organization in order to get to beat people up.
  15. I saw that Jeff Fassero was designated for assignment by the Giants. There's a fill-in for ya.
  16. Methead wrote: Nice article. 6 bedrooms, 8 acres in Greenwich. I knew I shoulda been a pitcher. I was surprised that he only paid $4 mil for it. 8 acres in Greenwich? That's a freakinn' steal at that price. And P.S. My yard looks better than his....gardener my ass.
  17. Johnny Dickshot wrote: Well, I think it was homemade or copied. The disc soupy mailed had a replica of the cover above and on the flip side (as you open the disc case, on page 2 if you will), a classic Mr. Met. The first thing I did was turn the cover art over so that Mr. Met is the new album cover. It's great! I downloaded that Mr. Met from somewhere and just printed it out. You can find all kinds of downloadable Met logos you can use for personal stuff on the 'net (not like I need to tell you folks). Would've liked to have used the original art from the actual giveaway but couldn't find it in downloadable form and I don't have acess to a color scanner. I don't know if my burning and distributing violates anything because it WAS a giveaway. It was never for sale anywhere and I'm not accepting money for it.
  18. It was originally coined by Lima. Rome just ran with it. It's safe to use.
  19. Damn. I already set my watch to 'Lima time'.
  20. ="Elster88"]If he realizes already how badly he is performing, and is beating himself up more than you ever could, what on earth is the point of your booing? Isn't it (booing) really just to make yourself (the booer) feel better at the expense of how the player is feeling? The two questions in that last paragraph (especially the first in that couple) is the one I'm most curious about finding the answer to. OTOH, we've had this back and forth before. Yes we have beaten the crap out of this argument but I'll humor you. If he realizes already how badly he is performing, and is beating himself up more than you ever could, what on earth is the point of your booing? Maybe the point is expressing frustration and reminded the player just how blessed he is. The player is making $100 million no matter how bad he's doing. Average Joe is busting his ass every day to pay his bills. If Joe doesn't perform Joe doesn't get paid. If the player doesn't perform he still buys another Bentley in the offseason. I'll admit that a lot of it is jealousy. Fans think that if someone is being so well paid to play a game - no matter how poorly they play - that it is unfair, and this is how they express that. In the real world no matter how hard you work if you are not successful you don't get paid. Not necessarily so in sports. Isn't it (booing) really just to make yourself (the booer) feel better at the expense of how the player is feeling? Booing doesn't make me feel better or worse. It's just an expression. I for one think that if a player has the balls to sign a contract like that then he is making the statement that he has the intestinal fortitude to overcome any sad feelings he might get if he is booed because he is not performing up to the standards set by him when he signed that deal. If he doesn't have that kind of grit then too bad for his feelings - he shouldn't have signed that deal. He's still going to be retired by 40 and set up future generations of his family for the rest of their lives. Kinda hard to feel bad for a guy like that.
  21. Johnny Dickshot wrote: What are you guys talking about? Burnitz interveiw snippet about how difficult it was to play here making huge amounts of money, not perform well and be booed.
  22. Edgy DC wrote: The thing is that he wasn't whining, as so many people seem to accuse anybody who responds to boos (as if provoking a response isn't part of the point. He accepted full responsiblity for his performance, knew full well how his salarly contextualized his performance, stated that he was beating up on himself more than they were, but... it was a miserable time to be so hated when all he wanted to do was perform well, and the negativity of the atmosphere was brutal. Agreed. He knew he was making an outrageous sum of money and he knew he stunk. He knew he deserved the boos from the fans, said it wasn't pleasent but accepted it and held no grudges against the fans nor did he act petulant towards them. That's how it should be.
  23. soupcan wrote: No, no, no, no, no, no. Sometimes you just gotta take a stand dammit. ="Willets Point"]Even if it helps the Mets win a pennant? Yup. I'm with CF - I like to like my team. I do not like this guy. In general I don't dig mercenaries. Specifically I don't dig Clemens. Didn't like him in 1986. Didn't like him when he forced his way out of Toronto. Didn't like him when he basically rode the Yankees coattails for his first ring. Didn't like him when he plunked Piazza solely because Piazza owned him, didn't like him when threw the bat and then acted like he was in some sort of zombie haze ('I thought it was the ball!') when he threw it, didn't like him when he 'retired' and accepted accolades throughout the league and then 'unretired' . I don't want this douchebag to play for my team, win a ring and then forever be linked to the Mets. Ugh, no thank you. Pass.
