  1. Finally rented this and watched it Saturday night.Loved it. As funny as I expected it to be.Highly recommended
  2. Bret Sabermetric wrote: Has there ever been a series victory (with the only loss a one-run loss) that left the victors as upset and angry and disaffected as this one has? The disappointment of failing to sweep is the overwhelming emotion here--You won 2 out of 3, people--why so glum? You're right. - bottom line - 2 of 3 from the Devil. Gotta take it and run.
  3. Okay. I'm a little better now. I was watching the Sopranos last night and decided to check the score. Tuned in just in time to see Wright let Jetah's grounder go under his glove and score two runs. Great timing. I watched the rest of Sopranos without turning back to the game. Finally I tuned in again just when Wagner came in. WHY WHY WHY WHY can't the Mets ever have a closer that just comes in and shuts the damn door?! I'm cool with the Subway Series. 2 of 3. Won a game we shouldn't have, lost a game we shouldn't have, we beat their closer, they beat our closer. A-Rod looked like a fool. Let the healing begin.
  4. I've just now (time is 8:41pm) come up for air. Haven't listened to the radio, read a paper or gone on line since that-what-must-not-be spoken-of happened yesterday. I'm thinking that it is THE worst loss in my years of being a Mets fan. A perfect storm of a loss. I'm still shell shocked. Don't even know what's going on with the game right now and won't know until tomorrow mornong. Billy Wagner has ruined my life.
  5. Van Hagar instead of David Lee? I already don't feel good about this.
  6. For what its worth I'm not too certain Jetah actually got a glove on Reyes when he was caught stealing. He swiped at him but I never saw conclusively that he touched him. I s'pose if the ball is there and the play's that close you get that call, but still...
  7. You're being funny, right?
  8. ="seawolf17"] Dude... my uncle, one of the guys for whom I named my newborn son, designed that logo. Oops. Does he have the '89 revised yearbook with that logo on the cover? That would be a cool thing to have if he designed it. That was a contest held by the team wasn't it? Fans sent in designs and they picked the best one I think. To be fair though it wasn't so much the design of the logo I hated (although I did find it a bit unimaginitive) but the way it was produced. It just looked like it had been drawn badly I also didn't like that it represented a kind of a bragging about...what? Best record in baseball since 1984? So? How many World Series did you win? Oh, just one? Shut up then. Remember the Cincinnati Reds in '81? They had the best record in the NL that year but because of the strike and the split season they didn't make the playoffs. They made a lot of noise about having the best record. I think they even hung a banner at Riverfront the next year proclaiming 'Best Record In Baseball 1981'. Who cares?
  9. In 1988 I had season tix in the mezz on the 3rd base side. Can't tell you how many times I'd watch the full unobstructed view of the flight of one Straw's awesome high arcing moonshots into and over the Mets bullpen. There used to be a Pergament sign on top of the scoreboard. The first year it was there it said 'Hit This Sign And We'll Paint Your House' . Tongue-in-cheek of course because it was so high up - but if anyone this side of Dave Kingman could have hit it, it woulda been Straw. Whenever he came to bat my friend and I would yell 'Darryl! Paint My House!! I also remember that in spring of '83 there was a blurb in Sports Illustrated about him with a picture that called him 'The 'Back Ted Williams'. I hated watching him leave as a free agent and at the time was screaming at anyone who would listen that the Mets should open the vault for him. As it turned out, they were wise not to listen to me. I used to love Darryl & Doc equally but as the years have passed I truly dislike/disdain Doc while still having warm & fuzzies for Darryl. I guess its because I look at Doc has taken advantage of my fandom while Darryl kind of just faded away from me.
  10. Right now if anyone's interested.
  11. I could be 100% wrong (and more times than not I usually am) but I seem to recall that The Mets were actually creeping very close to .500 finally in the late '80s. Sometime in '89 after this horribly juvenile logo was bandied about on every souvenir they could fit it on (I have a pair of socks still in the plastic with this ugly thing on them). ="Bret Sabermetric"]Who says I'm a buzzkill, anyway? Buzz away. Me. I say you are a buzzkill.
  12. Its cuz they started out so hot we all were expecting '86 all over again. It's May, they're in 1st, the bullpen looks good, nice offense, Pedro & Glavine are pitching well. There's a lot to feel good about. Now if people would stop bringing up Kazmir every time I turned around...

  14. Wow. you guys are good. Congrats to Captain America (Steve Rogers) & Vic (who I thought would be the person to get this). Short interesting life/career this Cazale guy had. Best buds since childhood with Pacino, engaged to Meryl Streep, was deathly ill while filming Deer Hunter and died shortly after it was released. Even though you guys got it pretty quick I still think its a pretty cool trivia question though
  15. Baumbach - met the guy about 12 years ago. Used to wear a scarf in the summer indoors. Dumbass.
  16. Nope.
  17. 1970s
  18. No its not a movie its an actual trivia question. Name the actor who has acted in only 5 feature films, but all 5 of those films have been at least nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture. I'll give hints if asked. Go.
  19. I'm the other guy that didn't read it.
  20. Edgy DC wrote: Yes, the bottom of the seventh broought the gmae to regulation. Thanks, I never knew this. Always thought 5 innings made a game no matter what. While I'm on the subject here's another rules question - Men on first and second less than two out - batter hits a ground ball that hits the runner going from first to second. Runner's out of course, but is the ball dead and the batter awarded first? If so does the runner who was at second automatically advance to third? This came up at a little league game and I was arguing just this. Runner is out, ball is dead, batter awarded first, runner on second advances. No one seemed to be as convinced of their opinions as I so we went with my call. Was I right?
  21. Willets Point wrote: Wasn't it an official game already before the rain delay? This confused me as well. In Philly it was official after 4 & 1/2 innings with the home team ahead. Fine I get that, I understand it. If the home team had not been winning it would have been official after the home team and finished out the bottom of the 5th if one team had a lead. Last night after the Mets took a 4-3 lead in the top of the 7th, it started raining hard with 2 outs and Rolen up in the bottom of the 7th. I assumed that as long as at least 5 full innings had been played that it was an official game and could be called at any time. Cohen however said that since the visiting team took a lead in the top of an inning that was not completed after the 5th that if the game had to be called it would not be an official game but rather a 'suspended' game. I was confused but after thinking about it, it makes sense. The home team would have to have the same amount of opportunities to score I guess. So since the Mets went ahead in the top of the 7th, the Cards would have to be given a chance to bat in their half of that inning. I assume that once Rolen had made the third out then it would have been official. Is that right?
  22. Gwreck wrote: ="cooby"]Now if, for example the NL batted around in the first inning and the starting pitcher got up to bat, I'd say let him bat rather than come out of the game before he even pitched Happened a couple of years ago actually. I think Mulder had to bat for the AL. And there's my point.
  23. Gwreck wrote: ="soupcan"]All-Star Game - The ONLY time the DH makes sense to use and they DON'T use it. Its crap. I'm a bit of an all-star-game apologist, but this comment I found strange. I would think the pinch-hitters would allow more players to be used, therefore allowing more of the starters/best players out on the field longer. Okay fine - use pinch hitters, but they don't! They let pitchers bat in this stupid game when its in an NL park.
