  1. Feeling more confident about a game seven.
  2. Showing that MLB spread the love to spread the interest, all 15 National League teams have at least one finalist, and 12 of the 15 American League teams. Athletics, Angels and Royals fans can stop paying attention.

If I care about one of my guys, or any guy for that matter, potentially being in the mix for a GG, MVP, ROY, CY, etc., I'm going to look forward to the reveal of the final results even if my fave ultimately winds up outside the top three. With the pre-release list I no longer have interest in the ones where they tell me ahead of time that he/they have no shot. There's little to no drama in finding out whether someone finished 4th or 6th I respect your opinion, and I'm not saying you are wrong for the diehard fans like you and me. But a more casual fan is aware of the Gold Gloves but probably doesn't know when they are released and might not be thinking about which of his guys are in the running. But the league reports the finalists, and that gets the attention of the more casual fan, who will scan the list to see if his team's guy is on there. He'll see Lindor and cheer, he'll say, "I didn't even realize Swanson had a decent glove. I thought he was just another former Brave with a goofy name." He'll look to see if McNeil is on there because Buck was talking about it and declare he got robbed. Teams put out social media graphics with their guy -- which the Mets did with Lindor. Ane people are talking about the Gold Gloves in online baseball forums, a discussion that might not have happened in advance had the list not been released.
  4. The Rangers are flaming out and nobody wants to see the Astros in the World Series.

Let's keep this between us! I'm kind of with him on the soup, unless it's Manhattan style clam chowder or butternut squash bisque.
  6. Frayed Knot wrote: Or, more accurately, the Gold Glove finalists. i don't see the point in this 'finalist' stuff, but I've yapped about this before and that's where they are these days. Announcing the finalists for any award in baseball is mad stupid. What is this, the Golden Globes? It's the same reason the Golden Globes does it. Announcing the finalists drives interest and discussion and even debate. This gets announced and the Cubs and Rockies and Mets all have another chance and news peg to highlight one of their players. The players get a little love and respect. Multiply that by both leagues and all the positions. It keeps baseball in the headlines. The columnists get something to write about and we get something to read other than the Giants sucking.
  7. Perhaps she will think being the Number 2 in New York with an owner who is committed to winning, is willing to spend, and has a design team that realizes black letters on black jersey is unreadable is better that being the No. 2 in Miami.
  8. https://twitter.com/CraigMish/status/1713899280971256204 Wow. Right after she gets them into the playoffs. Was this only her second year?
  9. Sanchez did better than I thought in SD. Dom, too.
  10. =smg58 post_id=139337 time=1697114408 user_id=62] In Eppler's defense, he did a few things right. He brought in Senga and Quintana to be third and fourth starters on a winning team, and Quintana's injury aside, they did what they were hired to do. Pham was a good pickup too. But the bullpen was way too top-heavy given the team's payroll and the depth that teams need to have in today's game, and when the #1 guy got lost for the season, it was left horribly exposed. I think the Scherzer trade was good for the Mets and the Verlander trade was bad. So, basically, mixed grades. And while I do think Eppler was an improvement over his immediate predecessors in the job, the bottom line is he was handed the largest budget in the history of the league by a wide margin and had 75 wins to show for it. You can't do that and expect to keep your job.
  11. Down go my adopted Twins. At least they broke their streak and won some games!
  12. Edgy MD wrote: It's hard to say. The top two winning percentages in Mets history belong to managers without previous experience. You are right. I was thinking more recently, but should have been more clear. You're looking at Davey Johnson and Willie Randolph? Harrelson is pretty close to them, too.
  13. I love these updates.
  14. Our track record with inexperienced guys has not been great. I think Counsell is experienced, successful -- and safe. I think I'm OK with that at this point.
  15. I'm with the Twins! Go, Twins!
  16. I think a lot of the people from that team are playing with the Angels now. The new guys seem decent enough.
  17. If this was a strategy, he should have put Carrasco on the IL a heck of a lot sooner!
  18. i like to think that on strearns' first day on the job he called in billy eppler for his one-on-one intro meeting, and it satarted off like, "have you noticed what the braves are doing in atlanta? explain to me why you hadn't locked up pete Alonso yet? Did you notice that Alonso just hired Scott Boras, which will make things more difficult?" and that was that. I added one thing I think might be key.
  19. Say the phantom IL thing is true, and Martino is confirming that's the case. Wouldn't that be more of a slap-on-the-wrist kind of thing instead of clear-out-your-office offense?
  20. Down go the Rays, too! That's gotta sting. Good for the Twins to finally advance. I'm all in for them to take out Houston, but that's a tough lift.
  21. Edgy MD wrote: The [FIMG=35]https://1000logos.net/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/Font-Mets-500x294.jpg[/FIMG] chest plate is hidden behind Stoins' shoulder, for whatever that's worth. They have five alternating logos — Mets, mets.com, SNY, Citi, and Citi Field, but somehow the camera angle on Stoins makes the most important one nearly invisible. The logo is plainly there when the camera is on Cohen — again, for whatever that's worth. Good catch. I started looking at it when they were zoomed in on Stearns. I missed it on the long shots. I had a big discussion about these at my former job and working with the Athletic Department. They had a backdrop with three alternating logos -- the college, Adidas, and the company they used to buy their uniforms. And they would use this backdrop -- along with a tablecloth with the Adidas logo and the college logo -- for signings and team photos and such. I asked them why they keep using it when it was really just an ad for the uniform company and Adidas. The response was "They gave it to us! It was free!" I explained that it really wasn't free because they were in effect giving the company an ad when they used the backdrop. So, we used the marketing budget to by them a new one with just the college logo on it..... I liked a lot of what Stearns had to say. I noticed Cohen pivoted -- a lot -- when pushed for details, especially about how long this had been in the works.
  22. I don't like that backdrop. There needs to be Mets logos in that design somewhere.

Maybe that's a me problem."
