1. I am an optimist! I give Stearns the benefit of the doubt on the pitching. A healthy Senga will make a big difference. If there is a problem, the team has the money and prospect capital to fill it at the deadline or before. That top of the order -- Lindor, Soto, and Pete -- are going to mash! 1. What will the Mets' record be? 95-67 2. Predict the NL East standings from 1 to 5: Mets, Braves, Phillies, Nationals, Marlins. 3. Will the Mets make the playoffs (if so, as the division champ or 1st, 2nd, or 3rd WC)? As division champ. 4. If so, how far will they go? World Series! 5. Who will be the World Champion? Your New York Mets! 6. Number of regular season HRs for Pete Alonso: 42 7. Who will be on the cover of the 2025 winner of the Tabloid Cover Derby? Francisco Lindor.
2. Per the Athletic. The six players who won the major awards last year - MVP, Cy Young, and Rookie of the Year - will wear golden MLB logos on the backs of their jerseys all year. Ten per player will be cut up and put on trading cards. This follows last year's practice of rookies wearing a special patch on the day they debuted. Fanatics, of course, bought Topps and makes the jerseys on partnership with Nike.
3. This is a good question, Roger! Tim Foli had two stints!
4. https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/WuwAAOSwAKxWWeNe/s-l1600.webp> https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/pSMAAOSwv-NWYIPp/s-l1600.webp> I recently came across two spring training score cards from the 1970s. One is from 1975, and the other from 1977. They are gloriously low-tech and fun. The Mets, of course, shared venerable Al Lang Field and its famous Sadecki Spot, with the Cardinals so both team's logos are on the front. I love the ad on the 1975 version for Cronk's, proudly catering the Cardinals' hospitality room. The insides have scorecards and rosters. The 1975 game against the Cardinals looked like it has two versions of the roster glued in place, so they cared about keeping these up to date. The backs have a blank section with "Autographs" on top, then "Mail it back home" with a spot to write your address and for a 10-cent stamp. The 1977 one, printed on slightly thicker stock, has the same layout with mostly different ads. Greyhound racing at Derby Lane must have been popular. All that fun selling at the time for 25 cents. Good stuff!
5. Newsday has an interesting feature about pitcher Justin Hagenman, a career minor-leaguer who got a major league contract. Suggests he might be our dark horse Met of 2025! https://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/mets/justin-hagenman-contract-czd16d4s#utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Sports&lctg=89258afa08eb13c55f00f8886c35c341f77db8ea52a6c8e23da8317e16e81aa7&utm_term=sub
6. I always loved this one.
7. Buster Olney today was making it sound like this is definitely headed to TJ and that Cole will miss all of this year and the start of next season. Likely won't see him until the All-Star Game in 2026 - which will be in Philly, by the way. Back-to-back NL East stadiums with the game in Atlanta this season.
8. The Athletic says MLB is leaning on the Rays owners to sell to a group that will keep the team in the region if the latest stadium plan falls through. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6189456/2025/03/09/commissioner-owners-pressure-rays-sale-mlb/https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6189456/2025/03/09/commissioner-owners-pressure-rays-sale-mlb/ “If Stu walks away from this deal, I think the owners and Major League Baseball will see that he either has an unwillingness to do a new stadium in Tampa Bay, or he has a financial issue that prevents him from doing a new stadium in Tampa Bay and there needs to be an ownership change,” Latvala said. “I do believe that we'll have new ownership with the Rays at some point in the near future.”
9. I don't imagine this will happen. But someone out there is saying we have Sonny Gray in our sights. https://www.newsweek.com/sports/mlb/mets-predicted-acquire-75-million-pitcher-before-trade-deadline-2037565#:~:text=Kerry%20Miller%20of%20Bleacher%20Report,the%202025%20MLB%20trade%20deadline.&text=%22Gray%20Ends%20Season%20With%3A%20New,York%20Mets%2C%22%20Miller%20wrote.https://www.newsweek.com/sports/mlb/mets-predicted-acquire-75-million-pitcher-before-trade-deadline-2037565#:~:text=Kerry%20Miller%20of%20Bleacher%20Report,the%202025%20MLB%20trade%20deadline.&text=%22Gray%20Ends%20Season%20With%3A%20New,York%20Mets%2C%22%20Miller%20wrote.

11. I kinda liked it. John Lithgow was good and his character came around. I really liked the soundtrack at the time. Takes be back to my college days. I didn't have too many cassettes, and I couldn't bring my vinyl halfway across the country. But this is one that I had and played the heck out of it on my Walkman.

13. I saw it used a number of times at the game I was at on Sunday. What was near was that they put the animation right on the scoreboard - with the distance from the strike zone. One time it was one inch off the plate. Seemed to go pretty quickly.
14. Good for Fboy! That could be a fun experience!
15. • OF Alexander Canario: Acquired from Cubs For cash.
16. Opportunity awaits for Bret Baty and Luisangel Acuna. I suspect Baty has the edge after hearing how Sterns talks about Acuna needing more seasoning and playing every day.
17. =roger_that post_id=185874 time=1740410049 user_id=128] Specifically, who is the Met with the best (Metly or non-Metly) career whose time with the Mets you barely remember? It might be because you weren't born yet, of course, but it might also be because it occurred when you weren't following the team as closely as in other seasons, or just because the team was really bad and you're glad to draw a blank, or for some other idiosyncratic reason. For me, it's Eddie Murray. I remember the Mets getting him, and the hype surrounding him, but basically he was gone before I got to see him play. Or maybe I did, and it didn't register on me. He's a HoFer, and he put up some decent Murray-like numbers, but as far as I'm concerned he was never a Met.
18. I think it is! We headed right home to bring dinner back for Mom and my wife. I loved that the Mets had Nathan's hot dogs! And they were fresh on the bun, not stuffed in soggy foil envelope. It was a fun day!
19. Was fun to be there with my Dad and surrounded by Mets fans. Defense was crisp with at least three double plays. The only run came on a balk. Acuna was the only big prospect to play. I don't know if Alex Ramirez counts as a prospect anymore. Ended with a 1-1 tie. Clover Park looks fantastic with the renovations. Plus I won a Carlos Beltran Bobblehead.
20. Going to the game in St. Lucie on Sunday and in Jupiter on Monday - but there is rain in the forecast Monday so holding off on tickets for that one.
21. Daily Walkoff ⚾️ Mets #173 🟢🟢🟢🟢🚀 dailywalkoff.com I would never have guessed that about Ordonez.
22. Do we know the name of the gentleman sleeping on the floor near Maja? Is she safe? The intern and ghost of Captain Kangaroo might not be able to protect her.
23. This is wonderful, right down to the ghost of Captain Kangaroo wandering around the lobby! Great work all around. The highlight of the winter.
24. I bought two of the larger packs and one of the smaller boxes. Got only one Met -- Paul Blackburn -- and got him twice! Kind of a nice card, though. I don't like all the insert color/foil variations.
