  1. I'd rather have them put a total pitch limit instead of an innings limit.
  2. Who is the cycling expert round here? Do people really ride fixed gear no brake bikes? Does fixed gear mean what it sounds like it means? What is the significance of a steel frame? Why would the main character like all these things? My apologies if I'm asking questions about things that aren't grounded in reality.
  3. Piazza will be on Jimmy Kimmel tonight.

  5. Maybe Showalter will start Johnson tomorrow.
  6. You have to be on second on that. Unless you're Reyes. Then you're on third.
  7. As expected, Torre denied the appeal. Funny that the guy doing it managed and played for both of the teams involved.

  11. Every new thread makes me giddy. I feel like they won the series.
  12. This is an astonishingly dangerous poll if you believe in jinxes. Cue CookieMom and the Baseball Gods.
  13. Damn I didn't see the locker room speech I'll have to watch that online somewhere. His on-the-field interview was fantastic.

  15. I'm going to buy about 50 newspapers whatever it is.

  18. 2011 was the first year I haven't gone to at least one game at Shea/Citi with my dad in the past three decades. I am not ready to talk about this yet. There's a picture from the New York Post that Jon Stewart showed in a Daily Show clip that Cookie Mom (or maybe cooby) posted. That picture is me.

Vic Sage wrote: on the one hand, it was sweet, corny, sentimental, entertaining ... but more for me and my wife than it was for my 11-year old son (who was bored but polite enough not to say so) or my 14-year old daughter (who wouldn't be caught dead going to this movie). I grew up watching and love the Muppets, but when I was fourteen I wouldn't have been caught dead going to see it either. Especially with my parents. Because I was fourteen. Vic Sage wrote: on the other hand, its a nakedly cynical attempt by Disney to revivify a moribund asset. Yes, i teared up a bit during RAINBOW CONNECTION. fuck you, Uncle Walt. Nah, you're the cynical one. Jason Segel was the one who pushed to do this, he describes it in the first three minutes of the interview below. Disney doesn't have to be the pure embodiment of evil. Very reminiscent of how Mets "fans" turned on the team in 2007. The true fans are having Nam like flashbacks to 1986, 2003, 1978... I can't get over this. When the rain delay in Baltimore started it was 7-0 Yankees and 3-2 Red sox. The Rays had a 6 run eighth to get to 7-6. The Rays got a 2 out, 2 strike homer in the bottom of the ninth to tie. The Red Sox had first and third no out in the top ninth and couldn't score insurance. The Yankees had a couple on base in two different innings in extras but couldn't score. The Orioles had two out ( and I think none on) before double, double, single ties and wins it in the bottom of the ninth. Five minutes later the Rays win on a solo homer that practically grazed the top of the wall at the 315 foot mark hooking around the left field foul pole. And this is after blowing a nine game lead in September.

I don't believe much in karma but this was ridiculous. Only the pre-2004 Red Sox could lose like this. Most of the bandwagoners have no idea that the Red Sox went eight decades without a title and that the Patriots were a joke before Parcells. And the latter includes my ladyfriend who started watching in the Bledsoe years. Actually most Boston bandwagoners don't know anything before Brady. But this is the Red Sox type of day I grew up reading about in the papers.
  23. Berthiume called it something like the most dramatic night in Tampa's history. I guess Boggs' 3000th hit didn't do it for him.
