  1. Jeeze...wheres the love for Rey? Just cuz he had no bat? Buddy H wasnt the best hitter in the world and you know he'd be a top fiver. Probly number one in my book, but Im old school. That list needs to be expanded so it has more of a chance to include someone we really might hate.
  2. ...if anyones interested I can provide a bare bones image of a baseball field to build your stadium around. Ive already done that work so it wouldnt take much to provide a generic field that you can add or subtract from, then build around. You could use it in anything from MSpaint to AdobePhotoshop or PaintShopPro. Where you make changes to field shape (id provide just a standard Shea like shaped field), just line and color using the tools provided. (Like to fill in changes to the grass section of the field, match the green used with the dropper and flood fill or air brush in.)
  3. those are excellent SB. hey! this whole gig was your idea and no new Met one? forrrrr shame.
  4. Bret Sabermetric wrote: ="Zvon"]Anything worth talking about is worth discussion. Zvon, this part of New Jersey you come from, is it anywhere near Montclair? And are you a former Met catcher and manager in your eighties? Are you short and homely and Italian? HA. I was gonna say I couldnt fill Yogis shoes but I probly couldnt even fit em on.
  5. ....theres no way to make a fair judgement this early in his managerial career. I did notice that he had a comment about the Mets being picked as the favorite in the NL east this upcoming season by alot of sources. He said he doesnt think they should be picking the Mets as favorites.....yet. So he's already feeling the pressure that the 2006 seasons gonna bring, and this year should be a very telling test.
  6. t-minus 2 days. (i wont see it with the 1st flock but i hope to b4 Xmas) as soon as i found out he was back to climbing the Empire State Building,(and a 1930's ESB to boot) I was down for this. Been following the online production diary for about 3 months. http://www.kongisking.net/kong2005/proddiary/ http://www.theonering.net/scrapbook/nontolkien/kingkong/range/253
  7. you really should have posted the whole picture, seawolf....
  8. another wowzers. This boards goin big league. *Z checks his schedule....crosses off 'see KING KONG'.
  9. wowzers. Frank Thomas! This is the koolest. Thank you very much Mr Thomas for coming here and sharing your words with us. That book goes on my Xmas list. Your Met days just a tad before I started following the game, but I was very well aware of your being the Mets single season home run king when I became a Met fan. I never realized you led NY in homers that year though. I also loved when Flushing Meadows was the home of the 64/65 Worlds Fair. Still have the old home movies. Good times. my question would be what size bat did you use? and who manufactured it?
  10. great thread and info.
  11. bret,..i wanna publically apologize to you for getting in your face that one time. I saw a group pic here and you were in it, so your not just some bitter bastard who roams in here off the web. You know these people and they know you. If Id a known that, I never would have said those things and Im sorry. I really had no right. Yer still a dick tho...... J/K (~~~~~~~~~~OR IS HE???)
  12. 1)No. 2)Market values change. 3)Anything worth talking about is worth discussion.
  13. ....the the big bang Im exactly his age. Did anyone read the article by Vicarro in the NY Post Sunday Sports section? Great piece, and oh so true. I knew something changed over the years............... edit...(damn angelfire makes me support the silly pic)

  15. lol@ above^ scoreboard update. I nixed the seats on top 4 now. They can be added or I could put the NY skyline kinda thing up there,.....I dunno. and right before a pitch (in real life no one would go for this, I dont think):
  16. ="Rotblatt"] Old Man River LMAOOOOOOOO :) whoa:)
  17. I had to....lol. I wish i could credit the original cartoonist, but the info wasnt available. Found the cartoon on Google. The punch line is his, I just dressed it up.
  18. Frayed Knot wrote: or Generalissimo Francisco Franco who (when I last checked) was still dead. LMAOOOOOOOOOO :):):) Now thats comedy.
  19. I wouldnt have minded seeing jakeMonster get the chance to be the Mets regular 1st baseman next year. But Delgado is a surefire upgrade with a steady bat and proven experince. Id rather see Mike Jacobs get a chance to be a full time player than a backup on the Mets bench. Franco should be a fine filler there. And I understand its a million point one per season. Is that too much? Its the price of doing business with a proven commodity these days. As far as the two years, the Mets plan to keep him in the organization after his playing days and Im sure that goes towards that end. The NY Post reports that with John and Matt having played for the Mets, they now have had every player named Franco in MLB history. Is that a fact? I dont trust the Post.

  21. I absolutely love it m.m. Good job. Pinball alley....BRILLIANT! ..and funny. Im having a constrution crew raise my scoreboard and add a black backdrop underneath. The entire scoreboard goes totally black before a pitch. Im sure this will be screwed up from time to time , but the techs will be trained only to do it when the visitor is at bat in crucial situations..
  22. Elster88 wrote: So he's your shortstop, come hell or high water....OR loss of ability. Yes. Thats baseball, and its a game where if you do whats expected or hoped for you shine in a fans eyes. Im passionately for him now. If you fail, you falter in a fans eyes. Its no contridiction. Its the way it is. (for me, at least) ]You're not any more attached to him than I am Apparently I am because I think he should be untouchable this off season. I want him playin short for the Mets in 2006 no matter who we could get. Even if A-Rod was available to play short for the Mets, Id rather watch Reyes either flourish or fail over the next few years. I see his potential. If it is realized I want to see him become the player he could be with the Mets. This is not a personal affront, just the way I feel. My opinion. I respect yours. I simply disagree.
  23. Elster88 wrote: When I read lines like this, Sal's complaint---that fans get too attached to their guys at the expense of the overall quality of their team---rings true. Talk to me again when Reyes is no longer on the up quality side of the equation. Right now your just blowin wind.
  24. Vic Sage wrote: So, I'd be irritated if the Mets signed Clemens... right up till he threw his first shutout. Then i'd get over it and start perceiving him (rightly or wrongly) as a misunderstood hero who i have the honor of watching on his march to Cooperstown as one of the greatest pitchers of all time. See how that works? Like we did with Pedro. Who, after the scene when he headlocked Zimmer, didnt have anything but ill will for Martinez? And talk about a guy with a rep as a headhunter. remember when he pointed to his head as if to say Ill drill you right in the noggin? But Pedro plays for us now, and we see him close up. We bury those memories, almost canceling them out with new Met memories. Wow, he's such a hard worker. Gosh, he's such an unselfish and good teamate who even lightens the team on the bench. Boy, he seems to give 100% plus everytime I see him out there. Seven inning pitcher, my ass. Both the opening post by Edge (awsumly written) and the responses, especially VicSage's are well put forth, and well recieved. Both angles apply to my beliefs. I like a team that you can grow with and thats grows with you. I like a modem of consistancy. I like familiar faces and seeing Met career statistics accumulate. I accept the state of flux teams go through. Sometimes changes are warrented and/or justified and sometimes made just for the sake of change. Some changes I jump for joy about. Some I bang my fist down in anger. And everything in between. But Ive learned thats part of the game. I accept it. I felt my 1st winds of change with the Mets (that personally affected me) when they traded Agee. He was my hero. But that turned out to be warrented, not by the trade itself or who was involved (Houstons Rich Chiles & Buddy Harris), but because he had reached his peak and was pretty much done at that point. Seaver was another story, because he had plenty of gas left in the tank, and he showed it when he ironically went on to pitch his no-hitter with the Reds. We all know he, at some point during those years he was away, would have pitched the Mets 1st (and maybe only) no-hitter. You can say thats mere speculation,....but come-on. You know he would have. (The Ryan deal I cant equate, because I seriously didnt see him going on to accomplish what he did, at that time) Im just ramb'lin now, so more to the point: Reyes is my shortstop. Im not interested in any other. Not even a better shortstop. I want to take the ride this guy provides, come hell or high water, at this point in time. If he comes up lame next season (or the season after that..), or really blows chunks as far as playing the game, I can change my opinion. Just like teams change personnel, I have the right to do that. But Ive really enjoyed seeing this kid on the road to baseball maturity. And I expect to continue to do so as long as he provides the positive aspects that make a good player. Reapeat the above paragraph and substitue Wrights name for Reyes. The same sentiments apply. Both still have some growing to do. Its even fun to watch em mess up, like when Wright turned the bag on that grounder down the line in Philly. WHAT AN IDIOT, I screamed. But I bet Ill never see him make that mistake again. The fact that he did that in the 1st place is one of those things that make him who he is. Niether one is 'The Franchise", at least not yet. But both are the anchor a team should have for thier fans. There should be some sense of stability on any baseball team and its a proven fact that you can go out and buy a complete all star team, and not be the best team out there. Its the intangables that make the game so great. Bottomline, if the Mets even think of moving either while they are young and still growing I will go ballistic. If they live up to our hopes and thier potential they should stay Mets as long as they wish to stay Mets, and we as fans should give them the support to insure they want to. These two should be off the table as far as any quick fix trading goes. Im my mind, the only two right now. That can change, like baseball does.
