  2. Edgy MD wrote: Looks like a game where he's being yanked. And if it's one of his two starts, then he's being yanked before going five. IIRC it was this game, and he was pitching well. 8 Ks thru 4.2, 1 run & 4 hits allowed. I remember how shocked he was when TC came out to pull him. A card worthy moment. http://ultimatemets.com/gamedetail.php?gameno=8853
  3. I liked Ynoa. He was serviceable. Remember this game?
  4. I'm concerned that MLB is even just proposing this. Which Bozo came up with this one? Length of games don't bother me at all. Folks gotta slow down and smell the pine tar. Next thing you know we'll be seeing shit like this: [fimg=300:j6svpcue]https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/UmFAqyt4QjyJTXDPKrBXRAJKWsbctWEOMqktJ8_YBHUDquKXUQHeHj4zodT1GhIblaXJZQdPVCnOm5ii7GOYYQ78-dU-TG3k1f5FaOe7Y1D06bcvUzDjgzc_G-wDdkAZaYhZIngmAxtFqeDsGfdIwARxN-Hz0qibhMpo-FJwR6Yx2sTf_tqOjEXT5iIv1mCIJuAutFfv-rRkOC0HwAJpTlwevX03tivl1jFMu4tfWTm0rpceLy48J8rFwu3ZbGL37G6044KNIBA2_YAeHZFT8BQlzteE0k6Lz7oOOEliPLCUnBtg8vCoOuR1_pITJ1GMYoA_0UlKuTpL6WkayQlWIafYaD_iapBwpKYcbjtc6FolOA-SFSn2Q36ssM12OVNmseATbeSzcspZ1feVqDQhFcUhrlKTifHS1-PKhvoFCJ-GM-4iIn8BtHwna0YYAgeiMvuGtx1H8bi0Go7R8hRrddGtvqnrWwRUs-0N3mHHvqactlLp1dtRfT2SindM6u8s_e_t2Ar9SS0VpO4vk4S0fEip-A-iJPX0-FldCrur_5lz0FBScwlGXVxUgM2MHEZ2He-sQjvimQLPEGU-I3HqDQHN6xAwAp8gst2LLyBxehSAo99EnKAEiA=w350-h261-no[/fimg:j6svpcue][fimg=300:j6svpcue]https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/RxfTQSwtrvzyKMUzDOMRdj_n4iwhpz3V1lbZfhBgC-fJbPwJTU5BMqT-yFOUpCeZt8KrZ-ZnE2dd18QlJh-XnLXvI0IT4qmkh44UPk6xYd7sUIM3ZcAPfoW7djfaU38OSARNbuF4lJz0UypJskyxeKxthLWwG63ZBOlpBbSytH2rqbQcL4f7I6dIbBUSl74stB3fg99aOHwizdvg40TcWQ_AXaCnPjXik6t4-InIYFpQWDTsg6xqHyXO8JgMKFcrJmpl33RVNpH40EmWMxbB7_qQaOI_-Tf1tTc9W7rY8c0P0UovHeGwTjg3SRY7gMBMl91eDKrXiGTqiXDZNWe9Hd21ZNiEIlnQeqWTv-Nh8SviU3MHBE1kfVDdoFGNWC7BBMP-f4aqvix7HzuDlIww29F32XOW-oQu3vE49lIOnGQWLLas6hgowsy9ZHR-6qfcbxVdwimFFc0Nrf6cPdtBEJLaY5R75EaIoS3mql4iBINGkJfZR8bg_Kom8MkyuV-ElOlnQ8ghqh4otLKSgeHjoYDCRCRTS6LNbZr7ecTDU_wEKiOZI9iDSDr3RJeydh4hqklKOPxWt2UzXB-zml3YDKJXFfY7I2eMhKfL-RqvdWSis00C_aC21A=w464-h340-no[/fimg:j6svpcue]
  5. That announcing the winner post is beyond awesome and hilarious. Great job. I like how you chose to have TC yankin' up his draws.
  6. Sentimentality was creeping in to my decision because I have a fear that there might not be anymore Wright covers in our future if the Captains comeback falls flat. Part of me wanted the Wright to be the closing note on the season. But, having said that, I voted for CES BOOM BAH! because I remember how that home run got everything back on track again and the train kept'a rollin' from there on out.
  7. Lefty Specialist wrote: Can they both win? This. I don't want to bypass the Captain but that Yo homer was so crucial. I'm torn!
  8. Avon great picture! I don't remember that though I watched those games two feet from the TV set. Why did they move them? Safety? You had a good seat . Must have paid $$$$ for it lol They moved them for their safety. At the time I thought it was an overreaction but looking back that was a very wise thing they did. I had Mezz box, front row, right above left (sneaked down to where I am in that pic in game 5). Got all three tickets as a block (slept over at Shea to be in front of the line) and IIRC they were app. $7.50 each. So less than twenty-five bucks for all three tickets. Benjamin Grimm wrote: When I was a kid, early 1970s, Smithtown, Long Island, just about every kid was a Mets fan, and a Tom Seaver baseball card was the Holy Grail. There were a couple of Yankees fans, but they were so rare they were looked upon as anomalies, like Protestants. (Almost everyone was either Catholic or Jewish. I remember being really surprised to learn that the majority of the country was Protestant.) I lived in Smithtown from 1964 to 68. 32 Carnegie Drive, right off 25a. Dogwood Elementary. And yes, my first exposure to the Mets was from friends there and I went to my first Mets game during that time, '68 IIRC. I guess you could say I was a peripheral fan of the game until 1970 when I became a serious fan of the game.
  9. OMG. ha. I like the NY. I wasn't expecting that.
  10. Wow. I've been surfin' here for an hour and just seeing this. Awesome, I'll have to check this out. Thanks Edge!

A day or two before that, I had no idea what baseball even was. dinosaur jesus wrote: Another '69 bandwagoner. I'm pretty sure, anyway. I have no memory of that season at all, but I know I was on board in 1970. I remember my father pointing to a story in the paper, with mug shots of a couple of Pirates (ugly bastards), and asking me if I was worried about the Pirates catching the Mets. I said "Nah." Don't think of yourself as bandwagonjumpers. Like me, you are children of '69. If you were bandwagon'rs you'd have jumped off at some point. Even when I "turned my back" on the team in '77 I stayed on board, although from a distance. The bandwagon "type" could never stick with this team from 1970 til now. It wasn't just 1969 that grabbed me. The whole Cinderella story with the teams history was also a big part of it. You just wanted to give the Mets a great big hug. I did that in 1970 and haven't stopped. I do believe that my '73 NLCS experience (gms 3,4,5) really provided the glue that made me stick to this team forevermore. A Metsfanfriend read the game three story on the cardblogthing and sent me some photos that I had never seen before. This was when play was stopped to remove the Reds players families from the make-shift box section along third. That was so bizarre. And I do believe that's me.
  12. Thanks Jeff. Now, pleeeeeease, put the NY back in the logo. Please.
  13. I was rough on this guy. I thought he was a waste of space. Not personally, just cause he was an outfielder whose role became taking games from other Mets OF's I was more fond of and wanted to see get more playing time. As far as I see & recall no mfc card, and you really have to do nothing for that to happen. Did smack 6 kaBOOMs though, and that's something. Good luck on the A's De Aza.
  14. Yea, that April. 14 Ks in 8.1 innings. I thought we had a three headed beast that would serve the rest of the season. Then a bumpy May and pffffft* after that TC avoided using him. 15. I liked Loney from the moment we got him until he scooped his last errant throw. At the plate, wish he did more. Around first, I saw him make plays that no other first baseman make. At least no other New York first baseman. I was and will always be a fan of Jame's glove and what he did with it for us, made him totally worth it. 16. Yea, I might be a little extra sensitive when it comes to The Dude. I really want him to have that season we all know he can have at full potential. I want 40 HRs in '17(last yr I probably demanded 30ish, maybe even 25) 120 RBI.-.280.BA.! A lot to ask but I know he can do it. 17. Oh, so the piece is a big joke. I didn't find it funny. David Capobianco owns me five minutes of my time.
  18. I'm not even done reading it yet but: "I asked dozens, maybe even hundreds of people their opinion of Lucas Duda as a baseball player....." ...maybe even? Can't he keep count of how many people he asked? He takes quite a leap there.
  19. A Mets player taking up 75% of the cover? You gotta love it!
  20. Centerfield wrote: That back view is better. The cover makes it look like no one is there. The back view celebrates the moment for what it is. I think I agree. It's just so funny how absolutely no one is looking at Cabs yet. But that crowd is into it and that is a fantastic photo. If my info is correct (50/50 shot) that photo was taken by Kathleen Malone.
  21. G-Fafif wrote: Wilmer, however, appears headed for the arbitration table, multiple sources report. Hmmm.
  22. I went W&W because it's the crowning moment (as of yet) of TC's career. A Mets celebratory clinch! I like how the cover was laid out to be almost all photo and everything is all Mets. Although the Cabrera game & homer were huge, and the photo fantastic, I have to tip my cap to Mr. Collins. Now if they used the ENTIRE shot of Cabrera I might have been swayed, but probably not. 23. This is totally amazin' stuff and I love Mr. Davidson's artwork. The ring that say owner.....WOW!
  24. This is the toughest. I have yet to vote. I will after some thought.
  25. Centerfield wrote: This really is a tough one! I'm going to give it more thought. Picking Gsellman versus Lugo is tough enough as it is. But these covers are also so evenly matched! *Both are wins against the Nats. Gsellman gets us on the board. Lugo takes the rubber game. Both were great games. PUSH *The Lugo pic is an action shot, but the Gsellman reaction shot is still better. ADVANTAGE GSELLMAN *Gsellman has the regular uniform, Lugo is wearing the tacky throwback. ADVANTAGE GSELLMAN *GAME SETH MATCH is the much better headline. ADVANTAGE LUGO *Lugo's subheadline is direct and to the point. Gsellman's is too wordy and clutters the cover. ADVANTAGE LUGO *Gsellman has the Yankees losing. Lugo has them salvage one game. ADVANTAGE GSELLMAN *But Gsellman also references the Mets losing the game before. ADVANTAGE LUGO lol, I love this. Tacky? Wha? Gsellman by a bunch of hairs. This was tough though. Both excellent covers, both huge and great games.
