Change of plans. I'm gonna buy Lego and construct a life size Lego '66 Batmobile.

Rollin down the street, smoking indo, sippin on gin and juice (with my mind on my money and my money on my mind). Which Batmobile? I'm sure you know which I'd go after. 1. Rename Citi Seaver Field. 2. Statues for Gil, Casey, Yogi, Seaver, Koosman, Gooden, Strawberry, Piazza(retire his #31) and a few more the fans can pick. I'd want one for Murphy and Kiner. 3. Sure, another level of seating. Affordable tickets (which means moneyball every year-I'd keep Sandy). All fans in the place can move down after the 3rd inning no matter who we're playing (also, no tier tickets). 4. I'll design the new scoreboard myself. It'll be bombastic. 5. No more camo unis. All kinds of throwback unis instead. 6. The yearbook would come with a set of 41 Mets fantazy cards every season. Perforated cardboard pages in the middle. You can leave them in the yearbook or cut em out and put em in plastic or a binder. Make it a traditional thing. Thanks for slowing down that Bowie gif. That was ridiculously fast. Hey, if I bought the Mets, I'd let you design the new scoreboard. With my input, of course. And I don't mind bombastic. Scoreboards should be bombastic, shouldn't they? It's only about the aesthetics. And the info. What would Bill Veeck do? I think he woulda put a midget with a gigantic chalkboard out there. My design would be a huge round Mets logo, the best logo known to man and the universe, that was like a Transformer™ that turned into a nice big rectangular scoreboard with the logo city scape on top and the logo bridge at the bottom. On Met homers, it transforms into an apple! It'll be able to project an enormous 3-D holographic replay some 60 feet above the center of the field and everyone in the stadium can see the replay from a different angle.

My strategy is to let you guys make your picks, wait for the answers to be posted, and then look real informed and intelligent to my brothers when I quiz them on this.
-
Now if it was a: I'd have played. 401. That's amazing. I couldn't even picture to guess. Great quiz though. I'll use these on my brothers.

A wrap around with a nice Metly layout, they even got the N Y in there and the greatest logo known to man and the universe. That. Could. Go. All. The. Way.

2015 & 1973 - Warning Signs or False Parallels?

batmagadanleadoff wrote: OE: about mid-season during both years I remember thinking, wow, we have a powerful rotation, maybe tops in the NL. Yeah. There were three outstanding starting pitching rotations in '73. The Dodgers had one of them. The WS champ A's had another one of them. And the Mets, who I thought, and still do, had the best rotation in all of baseball that year. Their bats may not have scared their opponents, but those Mets had the pitching equivalent of Bench, Rose and Morgan. And Perez if you want to count Stoney. Ya gotta count Stoney. -
Centerfield wrote: Which is why when the CPF raises enough money to buy the Mets, the first thing we are going to do is reinstate this tradition on 9/11 and dare MLB/New Era to pull our players off the field. YES! Centerfield wrote: All kidding aside, if I owned the Mets*, I would tell MLB and New ERA that we have no interest in wearing their 9/11 design hats. It may work for other clubs, it doesn't work for us. Since they design these hats each year, I'd tell them that the Mets hat should have no Mets content at all. They can design them after the first responders' hats. And they can have the MLB logo or New Era, or whatever, so long as they are primarily, first responder hats. We will cooperate with them to sell these hats on our website, at the ballpark, etc, so long as every cent goes to 9/11 funds or to the city agencies themselves. And I would make this very public every step of the way, so as to force their hand. And if MLB and New Era refused to comply, I'd send my ballplayers out there with the first responder hats and dare them to tag us with a forfeit. I'm with you 100%. Not that it will be of any help.

2015 & 1973 - Warning Signs or False Parallels?
Zvon replied to nymr83's topic in New York Mets Talk
A few more similarities: We just came off a season where we had Rookie Of The Year pitchers, Matlack in 1973, deGrom in 2014. Both teams had great Aprils. A lot of injuries plagued the '73 Mets. Grote, Cleon, Harrelson, Milner & more. All for 30 days or more. I don't know if that equates with losing Wright & d'Arnaud for as long as they were out but it's a fact that when Jerry Grote returned to the lineup in '73 the entire team stepped it up a bit. Some say d'Arnaud's return (the 2nd coming) had a similar effect in 2015. And it was similar the way I sat in front of the TV in 1973 and 2015 right before game one and said "Holy shit, we are really in the World Series!" OE: about mid-season during both years I remember thinking, wow, we have a powerful rotation, maybe tops in the NL. -
Centerfield wrote: The entire off-season plan of the Mets is coming into focus now. The Mets didn't upgrade the outfield because they never had any intent to upgrade the outfield. And the reason for that is the money committed to Juan Lagares. They are intent on giving him his chance. But they knew that it would be foolish to just run him and his .650 OPS out there. So they looked for a platoon partner that is good enough to give them a boost in production, but not good enough to take his position. That's why we have De Aza, and not Cespedes, Span or even Gerardo Parra. We have been handcuffed this entire off-season because of the extension they gave Juan Lagares in the spring. That made second base the only place they could have upgraded, which explains their unabashed pursuit of Zobrist. Had they gotten Zobrist, they would have cited to him as an upgrade over Murphy, and that would have been their justification for the downgrade in CF. But it didn't happen. And that's why they are scrambling and hiding behind rhetoric. FK called this way back. I didn't want to believe it. Didn't want to believe that a big market team is handcuffed by a $24 million contract spread out over 5 years. But I guess it is what it is. Ka know if that's the case, that they are planning on giving Lagares a shot at full time, they should just say that. I can get behind rooting for Lagares to excel. I thought he would a season ago. I wanted him to be our lead-off hitter. And he didn't do bad in spring training but they still dropped him in the line-up. If they are giving Lags a last chance to be a regular CF in NY then just say it, for his and our sakes. Also, De Aza makes even more sense to me in this scenario. If they pitched it right we'd all be getting pumped up to root for Lagares to be what we need.

Well duh. Can I please have permission to use your name Batmagadanleadoff? Please? Is that Cap Anson?

dgwphotography wrote: So, thanks to Zvon's terrific suggestion, I'm now a bit disappointed that he's going in with a Mets cap... lol, I hear ya. Damn, I should have thought of that 2 weeks ago and we could have started a campaign. Because it really would have been perfect imo. Yes, I've come to think it would trump a Mets cap and say so much without saying anything. I do suppose there will be a blurb about his post 9/11 homer on the plaque, but a first responders cap would say so much more. The players wearing those caps at that time had such a great impact on me. I thought the impact was huge til Mike hit the homer, then I realized what a HUGE impact really was. The most emotionally charged home run I have ever seen.

Oy. I expected a crock. Is that what that "C" stands for?
-
This pretty much settles it, doesn't it? Primary team: New York Mets settles that it won't be a Dodgers cap. Could still be blank. I really want it to be a Mets cap but If they go with a first responders cap, I'll be okay with that too. I'd salute the hall. I doubt they have the balls to do that though. Congratulations Mr. Piazza! I'm slipping. I should have had a card or graphic all ready to go.

Nymr83 wrote: Wagner just didnt pitch enough innings for me. This^ for me. But when you think about it he did get a lot of saves for his inning amount, relatively speaking. Still, in Hoffman's shadow he don't get my vote. 99.3 I wouldn't have wanted to see anyone else break Seaver's record. Maybe some day Trout will break Griffey's.

How long are they gonna drag this out. I never saw Sherman live before. He was good. He said some interesting things about the steroid age but I will not be swayed. If there's evidence, in my book you never get in. Questionmark players (like they say Piazza is) get the benefit of the doubt from me (as long as their neck isn't thicker than their waist). Good luck to Griffey Jr. I predict he goes in at 99.8. % Piazza, 86 %. OE: Oh, 6pm. So they will talk 3 hours about this? Oy.

Well, going by his most recent performances, I stick to my fears. I love the guy as a lefties specialist.

Mets – Willets Point wrote: Ceetar wrote: reasonable shot they just go no logo like they probably will for Beltran too. It would be cool if they designed it with the catcher's mask pulled up over his head, although I don't know if they can get that artistic with a relief sculpture on a plaque. I think it could be done w/o a problem. This is a great idea aside from the fact I really want to see more Met caps in the hall. I'm okay if GriffJR breaks Seaver's record. He would be a worthy successor. I don't lump Ken with the juicers. And there is no chance Jeter would ever break Tom's record. Mark my words on that score.
