  1. I feel like Opening Day brings out a lot of amateur fans too, the one's that are rarely there except for really special occasions, sometimes Opening Day is their day and that's it. They're not as accustomed to the flow of the park, etc.

  3. I don't think they've seriously slogan'd since like 2007.

  9. I'm streaming it on my phone. got my bone conducting/wireless headphones on. Ignoring everyone. (spoiler, i barely talk to anyone anyway)
  10. I usually lunch at noon. I'm still trying to decide if I'm going to hit bar/grill at 1 or just run out and get something shortly so I can just stream and actually listen to the game.

  13. Mets fan Dario's not consumed one iota of baseball information since the World Series. I'd say he's in for some surprises today. http://www.ceetar.com/optimisticmetsfan/2019/03/27/mets-world-series-news-no-fan/http://www.ceetar.com/optimisticmetsfan/2019/03/27/mets-world-series-news-no-fan/
  14. I think they were stealing more than that with Madoff, and they got what, 12 years or something of it on that money already? And then you have to factor in present value. Also that Bonilla's contract is like bagel money to them even if it ended up being a wash instead of a windfall for both of them.
  15. Frayed Knot wrote: $52.5 million of deGrom's new deal will be money deferred until the 2030's So right about the time when those annual lol-Mets/Bonilla stories should be petering out, the press will have deGrom payment stories to chuckle over. And they'll all ignore the hard facts that deGrom won't be paying taxes on that as a (likely) resident of Florida and no longer a New York employee and will end up taking home more of it. Hell, the same with Bonilla. Yes, they were banking on a lot of interest, but even at a more conservative rate of return they probably still made out long term. also this is super commonplace.
  16. Arguably the second guy is the Home Opener starter, so I'd guess Syndergaard.

  18. That's unfair to Nido. Nido hadn't even been to AAA. He was overmatched for sure, but that doesn't mean he's worthless, or that Mesoraco would be Babe Ruth to him this year. Plus he's already a better catcher. Mesoraco is BAD at catching. If you expect any type of reasonable improvement from Nido as a prospect, he'll probably be a better option than Mes by like June.
  19. Or maybe they got deGrom to concede that Mesoraco is in fact a bad defensive catcher and despite feeling 'comfortable' he was probably worse off with him.
  20. =41Forever post_id=5128 time=1553628015 user_id=69] I'd almost rather lock up Syndergaard first. I don't want Wheeler to walk, but he had a fantastic half season. There's plenty of time to talk to him.
  21. The finances on this are so circular I don't even know where to begin. They only technically sold off 48% of the team (we knew that), but like, 1 was to Jeff. 1 was to Saul. 3 were to Comcast (these are the ones they're buying back?) which they also partially own. It was shady to begin with. Was it a way to manipulate frozen assets? It's been clear as soon as that lawsuit was final and the assets were unfrozen that there was a zero chance of them selling the team. Oh, and also, a lot of this made possible by garbage republicans and the president granting tax cuts and the like to the 1% at our expense.

  23. =smg58 post_id=5062 time=1553607531 user_id=62] Thor's probably wondering why he didn't sign an extension today too. Although it's still early...
  24. No reason to put Mesoraco on the 40 man for a few days if they don't roll with d'Arnaud. If they inferred Mesoraco would have his spot if he couldn't go, I'm sure the Mets meant like, IL'd and hurt, not simply needing another week or two. He basically signed the contract betting Travis wouldn't be healthy. He lost. But if they really value Mes (why, he's bad) why should they just release him to other teams because he's whiny about it? If he doesn't change his mind, once d'Arnaud is game tested they probably will release him. Also, no one else wants him. And if they do, the Mets can entertain trade offers.
