  1. depending on which projection systems you believe, he's expected to be anywhere from on par to about 1 fWAR better than Vargas. I mean, he's probably better. But he's not "no need to worry about that 5th spot now" better.
  2. Wheeler (2-2) became the first player in MLB this season to join the “100-100 club” — hitting his home run over 100 mph and also throwing a 100-mph pitch in the same game, his 100th, according to Statcast.

  4. Sounds like the Mets were actually too cautious.

  6. Meanwhile they suspended Anderson a game for saying "Cleveland Indians" to the ump.
  7. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: almost everything out there was someone else capturing the games and managing not to destroy those recording till now. I maintain "Random Crappy Met Game" would still be a cool programming on SNY, where a bunch of us would sit on the couch like Crow T Robot and watch some random game where we had no promise it would be remarkable or not and just riff on the strategy, the participants etc. Who the hell thinks watching a game where you know the result all over again makes good viewing? Especially in this age of replay clips on demand. Get it togeter, Gowdy. It'd be cool like once, but is anyone going to tune in to watch that random meh quality Gooden start in 1990 a second time? There's a lot of o ther content/entertainment out there.
  8. I'm like 98% sure the Mets don't own the rights to any of the pre-SNY stuff. The other 2% is that murky corporate mess where I'm sure SNY doesn't have some rights via who owns them and who owns the companies that own the rights and all that. The broadcasts are separate things. Thought it's interesting, now that MLB TV is a thing. If you have an account you clearly have rights to ALL games right? you can can go back to 2013 and watch a random Sunday Night game that was on ESPN? I remember, way back when ,when MLB TV was first a thing I think all the games were basically available for free afterwards. I'm pretty sure I downloaded like a random 2005 game once, and then they had some 'archived' stuff from older games that you could watch/download.
  9. They have a few. SNY has become hot garbage more and more and I don't really watch it, but I know I've seen a few older things. Usually part of targeted marketing. I'm sure we'll see some 69 games this year. I wonder if anyone really watches them though. Also the quality is obviously not great. It'd be a nice project to work to get their hands on _every_ game though, digitized.

Pump your fist, don't flip the pitcher the bird. Afterwards anyway. If flipping the pitcher the bird on 3-2 gets you a ball and a walk, absolutely do it.
  11. It's pretty simple for me. do whatever celebration you want. Sports is fun, entertainment, and bat flips are damn entertaining. do not throw at people. 95+ mph missiles are legit weapons and can hurt someone. Also I don't understand how making home runs with bat flips count for 5 total bases is supposed to be a deterrent anyway.
  12. Nightengale was never very good anyway. I do remember, it was back in.. let's see Sunday June 13th, 2010 The Mets were in Baltimore completing a sweep, and the Baltimore radio guys were talking about Pelfrey and describing him as the Mets Ace. This is the season Pelfrey only allowed 2 runs in April somehow, and did end up having a pretty good year, though both Johan Santana and R.A. Dickey were better pitchers.
  13. As a reliever right? I don't know why you'd let him start, nor why Nightengale thinks he's an ace.
  14. I'm going with Chili Davis for the bogus "hit the other way" nonsense that seems to persist even though the Mets perform the best when they're pulling it over the fences.
  15. That's not how you spell Travis' last name SNY. All you had to do was copy and paste.
  16. You could hire three people out of a Freshmen A/V club that could put together a better broadcast.

  18. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: I don;t even know why they call him Polar Bear. Why do they call him Polar Bear? do they actually call them that? I thought Gary was just being weird when he called it a Polar Bear Plunge last night.
  19. Grey's Anatomy last night. the new(ish?) bone doctor was on a consult in NY talking to the other doctor It was part of my wish. You wished for perfect pizza? From a fairy godmother? Cancer kids who are in as bad a shape as I was get wishes. Osteosarcoma. Age 10. Full remission. What'd you wish for? - Baseball game at Shea Stadium. - Yeah. I got to meet my favorite player, Dwight Gooden. I remember thinking, "I'll be back. " And the next time was with the Mariners as the team doctor. That is impressive. Nothing will beat that first time out here. (It's not someone we know announcing it) "the bat. Fires. Slaps it to right. That one's gonna split the gap and head all the way to the wall! One run is in. Here comes Beasley around third, but cut off by Montanari, and he's, of course, standing up"
  20. yeah, I was just curious about the data. ;-) It's Pitch F/X timestamps, so basically when it hits the mitt. I don't know how they filter for things like throws to first and mound visits. I guess they throw those out.
  21. Can't speak to Ottavino last night, looks like Fangraphs doesn't have the game by game pace for that yet, but overall the league average pace is 25.4. Eight Drinks is about 26.4 so a solid second slower than average but not like, crazy slow. Though he was 28.9 on Saturday's appearance, and 33 earlier in the year. So he clearly slows down glacially at times.
  22. https://twitter.com/RumblePoniesBB/status/1114262318496583680 lol. Can't wait until the Syracuse team changes their name to something more fun.
  23. Lol. You're the one losing it because I changed the subject of my post. And then invented a story about David Wright. You seem to only want to discuss it as some sort of absolute disaster instead of a ballpark effect quirk. Mets have kept the balls in different places to no (apparent) effect, but maybe all of flushing is super humid. Also you can note that without this unanticipated effect, there's a good chance the original dimensions of Citi Field are pretty much fine.
  24. wrong.
