  1. Maybe the forecast says it's going to be overcast.

Are the Mets drawing so well that they can afford to take away promised promotions from its fans? I would have to assume it has something to do with the actual production of those sunglasses? Or maybe the sponsor backed out last minute? That's deinitely weird though.

  4. metirish wrote: The no-no doesn't bother me. In fact I want the Padres to throw one first so the mets are the only team left without the no-no. Every excellent Mets pitching performance will make highlight reels. (Look at the Mets great pitching..still no-no-hitter..)
  5. Edgy DC wrote: I want excellence. I want ownership and upper management to be communicative. It seems they (and Jerry) are laying low and waiting for the season to end, and I think the players deserve a little of the vision thing, so they don't have to waste their energy trying to muster it themselves. I want at least 11 no-hitters. David Wright confessed to feeling the same thing. Called it a mixed message when they promoted Tejada and F-Mart if i recall. Is it any surprise that players joke about "wanting to go with" Francoeur/Barajas with that type of communication? i'd (and so would you) settle for one no-hitter. I might even settle for at least 1 grand slam at this point..
  6. I want Duda, Evans, F-Mart, Carter (is Murphy healthy enough to play?) etc to play a lot. Evans strikes me as better than Carter personally, and they pretty much play the same position(s) although probably not well. Different handedness (I'm not sure what hand they use as it pertains to Fman's question..do you think pitcher's always use the non-pitching one?) but whatever. I want to see Gee and Mejia. Niese too. Maybe even Perez? (I don't want to see him, but I want him to pitch) It's not just about youth, it's about trying to create value out of pieces you want to possibly move as well. Castillo should also play to prove that he'd like put up a .350+ OBP next year and would be valuable for less than $5 to another team. Beltran should play pretty much every day as well, for similiar evaluation reasons. Get Parnell, and Takahashi or whoever else you really really like in there for high pressure situations. Don't bunt. Why would you bunt? What possible use could bunting have for a team that's done? Stop it!
  7. Gone but not forgotten...Frenchy is on the 2011 Calendar. (I'm not sure 9/1 is the time to set up a Calendar kiosk in the mall, but what do i know?)
  8. 9 and 10 are too close together for my liking.
  9. Vic Sage wrote: The Sage family drove up to Niagara Falls for a vacation last week. While we were in the area, we went to a Bisons game in Buffalo last wednesday night. We got lost driving there ("oh, you'll see it, it's right off the highway", said the concierge. "Fuck you, concierge" says I, driving around desolate downtown Buffalo, getting conflicting directions from various inbred goobers), so we didn't get there til the top of the 3rd, and they were alreadly losing 3-0 to Pawtucket Red Sox. But, on the other hand, it was "Fernando Martinez bobblehead night", and we had great seats, so that took the sting away. Of course, the sting came back when we learned that Martinez was out on the DL (quel supriz!). Also, there was some drizzle soon after we sat in our nice box seats, so we ended up retreating to the rear under the overhang. As for the game, our old friend Raul Valdez was pitching, and not doing too badly despite the score. key hits from Nick Evans and Andy Green put us within striking distance by the 8th, 3-2. Then i got to see big Val Pascucci launch one into the net above the LF wall at lovely Coca Cola Field, to tie the score going into the 9th. Then Sean Green blew it in the 10th, and some miscellaneous reliever followed him and gave up a grand salami to a good Sox prospect, the CFer, whose name i forget. Impressions: - Nick Evans is playing well, and should be up with the big boys; - They had Andy Green in the OF and he had a couple of big hits; - Captain Kirk Nieuwenhuis hasn't hit in AAA yet, but he made a great HR-robbing catch in CF; - Val Pascucci is built like Paul Bunyan; - Lucas Duda did nothing against LHed curve-baller Rich Hill. There's no reason to think he won't get eaten up by LHers with a decent breaking ball in the majors, so lets not rush him; - the concession stand sold fried bologna sandwiches; - when we got the Fernando bobbleheads home, we found one of them to be broken, which made it an incredible likeness! Despite the weather, directions and outcome, fun was had by all. I love minor league ball. Should've asked me, I would've given you better directions. It _is_ right off the highway though. It's also walking distance from Lake Erie. And the delicious Pearl Street Brewery. and only a couple miles down the block from the Anchor Bar. Also, the Greyhound bus terminal is around the corner.
  10. I think the tabloid writers would explode due to joy. They would get to talk about baseball instead of covering the tennis, mock the Mets for doing something 'dangerous' by a player off the field, and throw in Seinfeld references all over the place? I think the Daily News is having a meeting to determine what headlines to use as we speak.

I haven't yet heard whether he can bat from the other side yet. Hmm. I hear they're considering having him play RF because it shouldn't hurt as much as SS in the interim.
  12. metirish wrote: We've heard. metirish wrote: This was mentioned at the start of the game last night, I thought it was just an odd thing to say. Neither Francoeur or Carter are the answer there for the future and Carter seems more suited to coming from the bench, or maybe that's becasue he rarely starts and that's why I think that. Anyway I won't get all worked up over it...fuck em all. I'm not sure what you mean by future, but by my reckoning, Carter is both the better choice for the future and the better choice for the present with this team. It seems obvious. And if Carter is better sutied to comign off the bench, then Francoeur is better suited to coming off the bench less frequently. Well ,what I mean is I don't think Carter is going to be a full time outfielder for the Mets. Bay, Beltran, Pagan. You can make a point about Beltran breaking down, etc, trying to move him, etc etc. But the Mets cannot trade Beltran if they're not going to get a better outfielder to replace him than Francoeur or Carter (or Jesus Feliciano or an unproven rookie) So there isn't even a spot on the field. The bench? Jeffrey doesn't want that. I'm not sure Carter's the best answer but at least playing him maybe he does become an option for it.
  13. I've been wondering about the Spring Training schedule myself, as I have a free Jet Blue flight that expires if i don't book before 9/17 and Spring Training seemed like a fair plan to book it for. If you're not picky, the Mets really don't play 'away' from home for more than a game, or two at a time. And chances are they're pretty close to home anyway if you wanted to gamble and book a couple of days in the area if you werne't too picky about which specific day you went to the park.
  14. Eh, as long as I have to hope, I'm hoping for the Braves and Phillies to go 5-25. They're off to a good start, Braves blew a 10-1 lead against the Rockies.

We've also never been to Minnesota right? We'll only get two of the Royals, Twins and Sox at Citi if we're sticking to the Central theme. so a 67% chance or so of seeing them. Mets played at Metrodome in 2004. Looked damn awful doing it, too. Played at New Comiskey in '02. All AL stops have been made. C'mon White Sox...chickens! You're right. the Mets haven't _won_ In Minnesota. my mistake. bring on the Sox. Wait, I misread that.. It doesn't have to be Central, Texas is west.. Could be the A's or something.
