  1. I wrote a post a week or two ago with this premise, which i'm sure you could click through and find if you really wanted. See if Beltran gets into a nice groove. Wright and Reyes continue to set team milestone records cementing their place as some of the greatest Mets ever. When the Mets were eliminated in say 1989, or 1984...did you watch Strawberry and Gooden? Would you watch a Seaver start in '71 after they were eliminated? I'm enjoying watching Ike and Duda. Particularly Ike who it'd be nice to see finish strong and give you the impression that next year will be a big improvement. I'd like to see Evans more, but the Mets decided to let Manuel play out the stretch so. Other sporadic rookies are fun to watch too.

  3. I heard this on one of my brief listens to Michael Kay on my drive home. This took place on Friday when he hit the game-winning home run against the Orioles. Supposedly, the first pitch was a ball just off the plate called a strike, and was supposedly called a strike all day. A-Rod stepped out and said something to the ump (as relayed to Kay) along the lines of "Hey man, this is a big spot, you can't be calling me out on a pitch that's not on the plate." and supposedly the umpire replied in the affirmative. later in the AB, same pitch, called a ball instead of strike three. next pitch, game-winning homer.

  5. I suppose this can't be considered a surprise. The "George would have wanted it this way!" sentiment probably ran pretty deep within the organization and son Fredo Hank Steinbrenner likely demanded the dimensions as one final "Am I good enough for you now...DAD?!?" gesture.
  6. Centerfield wrote: Actually, I see nothing wrong with this. This is a guy who cares about his brand image...and uniforms are part of that. He listened to the complaints of the players, then compromised and gave the guys a range in which it could be worn. Am I missing something? George Steinbrenner (MAY HE RIP!!!!!!) would never have had such a meeting.

I heard Jeff's considering only free agents without mothers this year. This way crazy aggressive father in laws can't insult them.

  10. For many people it's baseball, we're fans. But for guys like Jeff this is business, and it's just like any other office. If you've worked in an office, you know meetings about stupid inane things are non uncommon.
  11. yeah, I noticed that. the Calendar store in the mall appeared 9/1, and the first thing i did was check which ridiculous Mets were featured.
  12. What's with the Virginia and Dallas packets of green for WSox-Tigers ?
  13. I violated my "don't watch videos on the internet" policy for that. it was crap. Despised it to no end. Don't think I made it through the entire thing.
  14. Duda above the Mcginsky line! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0UXqpWlmjfI

  17. Yeah, if Reyes did that he'd be a punk and what not. Nevermind if he GLOATED about it afterwards.

Jeter followed up with: "It did help that I'd slipped the ump a couple hundred before the game. Whatever edge you can get right? That's my job as Captain, to put my team in a good position."
  20. I agree, I don't think I ever really recovered from missing the draft and having to fill my roster with "I hope someone gets hurt and this guy gets more playing time" guys. I made a lot of trades but I hovered a couple places from the bottom most of the season. Next year if/when we do NL only I think we might benefit from 1-2 less teams, or maybe no util guy or something.

(For the revised edition of the yearbook; you know, I really miss the old-style yearbooks.) I can't imagine why they bother now, when nobody really cares about the team. What are they going to use this photo for? The World Series highlight DVD. I imagine they schedule the late season photoshoot for any rookies or what not that may make the team and just didn't bother canceling the thing.
  22. Frayed Knot wrote: Most interesting thing is the Friday start to the season and a mid-week finish. They talked about changing this for a few years now in order to revamp the post-season sked with a new start date. Good news: - NOT off on any of the major holidays like it seems we've been far too often in recent years. Host Pitt on Mem Day; at LAD July 4th (probably a night game knowing those SoCal sked tendencies); at Florida (or maybe Puerto Rico?) on Labor Day Not Good News: - FOUR day break for the ASG. Hate those Thursday off days. Friday start possibly in San Juan? hmm...4 day weekend in Puerto Rico anyone? July 4th weekend is the Yankees series at Citi Field. That may be interesting. And yeah, I hate the four day all star breaks. It's like leaving for vacation a day later than the rest of your family. They're all out there having fun, and you're just sitting there, doing nothing waiting for your chance.
