  2. Frayed Knot wrote: You couldn't do it strictly with just a height measurement because each particular player's stance figures into things too. But why? Isn't that mostly gaming the system like how Rickey Henderson would sometimes talk about crouching and then expanding to sorta shrink the zone? I wonder how much difference there is in the height of the knees for all players of the same height anyway. You've probably got an outlier or two, but they'd simply have to adjust and implementing the system in the minors first (which, granted, is tough) would train them into a 'normal' stance anyway. Of course, who cares what the stance is? The strike zone would be defined as the strike zone, and you can take any stance you want that helps you cover it. Baseball was originally a "here, hit this and try to run the bases and we'll tag you out" type game anyway, so the strike zone was always intended to be the 'sweet spot' so to speak of where a hitter could put a bat on ball. We don't adjust the plate left and right when a hitter moves forward and back, so why up and down?
  3. Strike zone should be locked in before the season. Picture day, height and weight measurements, etc. "You're X tall, Your Strike Zone is this, and is set." Easy, done. Never changes. I feel like this would increase offense significantly though.
  4. I think Texas is the easiest opponent, followed by the Jays, Os, Indians, Red Sox. In terms of teams I'd want to see just from a 'fun' standpoint, Sox, Jays, Indians, Os, Rangers.

  6. RealityChuck wrote: Did anyone think back in April that Harvey would lead the team in losses? he notoriously gets poor run support, so sure. But I would've picked Colon probably.
  7. Benjamin Grimm wrote: John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: 3. We gotta get Buttgardener off the mound asap. Yes. And it won't be easy to do this by running up his pitch count as you might in a regular season game against a 23-year-old pitcher. They'll probably let him throw 130 or 140 pitches if necessary. It's Bumgarner so he can hit some, but it'd still be nice to try to hold onto a lead and force them to pinch-hit for him. He's 0/22 in the playoffs overall.

Wonder what the MLB record is for least walks in a season for an entire staff. 1918 - NYG - 238 (shorter season) 1933 - CIN - 258 (played 152) 1919 - PIT - 263 (shorter) 81 Mon/KCR (strike) 1968 - SFG - 344 seems to be the 162 record. Mets in 94, 81, STRIKES Mets best season was last season actually, 383. This year is 9th, excluding those strike years. that '33 Reds team has the record for BB/9 with 1.72. '68 Giants have the 162 record at 2.108 followed by '05 Twins and '14 Nats.
  9. Centerfield wrote: I'm not sure I agree with this. Wednesday should be all hands on deck. I think the Mets should carry the best pitchers on the team, whether they are "starters" or "relievers". Lugo has experience pitching out of the pen right? In fact, I think they had given up on him as a starter while in Vegas. I think I'd feel just as good about Lugo coming in to get an out in the late innings as I would anyone not named Reed or Familia. I haven't paid enough attention to this thread to see who I would leave out, but I think I'd be inclined to go to Lugo to pitch the seventh than even Salas. Assume Syndergaard goes at least 6 (because we probably have other problems then) I probably go right to Reed and Familia. Honestly I probably go Familia first, because Reed is probably the better pitcher and is more suited to getting out of a situation with runners on than vice versa (Familia walks more and strikes out fewer, which relies on the Mets iffy infield defense more)
  10. Lefty Specialist wrote: Well, there's also that small matter of Bumgarner being the best post-season pitcher, like, ever. small-sample hubbub. Thor is a Cy Young candidate, if not the winner outright. You gotta start Duda, who's actually good, versus Campbell, who's just not, and Loney who's average on a good day. Duda hasn't really had lefty AB this year, but last year he was actually better verse them. this is gonna be a stressful game and I'm hoping not to be at the third consecutive postseason elimination for the Mets.
  11. best Mets reliever gets 'em in the 8th, next best up for the 9th. close it out.

Just imagine if we had Walker and d'Arnaud didn't suck. Good point about d'Arnaud. Has he pretty much been designated to be Rivera's backup at this point? be stupid if he was because even sucking this year he's better than Rivera.
  13. I mean there's a solid argument for Thor as NL Cy Young, so team MVP isn't much of a stretch.
  14. d'Kong76 wrote: This dude from the ticket office has left me three voice mails and this morning emailed me about the voice mails and wanting to give me a sales pitch. He signed it and said, "GO METS!!!" I emailed him back my ticket-plan situation for next year (not interested) and being the dick that I sometimes can be had to correct him that it's LET'S GO METS!!! I mean geez, know your freakin' stuff if you're gonna try to sell/market it to fans. GO METS!!! Why I oughta... I picked up one of them a while back and the guy was hardcore pushing despite me pointing out that there were zero benefits to me locking down tickets.
  15. any love for Plawecki over Rene?
  16. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: Yes, but how is his football announcing going? I WANT A MORE COMPLETE SIMULATION it's odd how MLB The show doesn't include that.
  17. I'm always curious how this comes about. With the relievers especially I assume they bat whatever is natural and just happened to learn to pitch with the non-dominant hand. Or maybe it's completely unrelated. As top-flight athletes in high school they probably tried switch-hitting and just stuck with the side that they felt most comfortable?
  18. It's gonna be about if they can hit enough, seems like they'll have the pitching to get by.
  19. I project Duda is going to destroy him.
  20. seawolf17 wrote: Benjamin Grimm wrote: Yeah, he is kinda superfluous, since that lineup has two catchers. Well, you've gotta have a lot of catchers, or you're gonna have a lot of passed balls. Not if you don't have a pitcher though.
  21. stop with the Rene Rivera.
  22. Lefty Specialist wrote: Looks like we've got a perforated Colon. Colon Dealing With a Tendon Injury in Foot Would explain why he had nothing in his last start. says it's been two weeks though. Some hard-core borderline illegal pain killers and he'll battle through it.
  23. Reynolds is the salad and Collins prefers soup.
  24. Do we factor travel into it? If it's Like, if it's Mets @ Cards that means a trip from St. Louis to Chicago from Wednesday to Friday. low-key. I don't think I have a preference.
  25. Don't the uniforms have Majestic on them? not much different.
