It would seem slightly redundant to get him without trading Grandy well yeah, but switchy and 5 years younger which means he probably fakes it in center better. Which is a pretty big deal imo. But yeah, that's extra outfield glut too and it probably coincides with moving the other guys. Granderson (and Bruce too) are going to be a little problematic I think, as part of their value probably hinges on what sort of compensation you might get in 2018 from their contracts, which of course is hinging on the CBA. So maybe Fowler only comes into play if we get past that and he hasn't signed.
  2. TransMonk wrote: Found it: Meanwhile, the Mets will abide by Cespedes’ wishes and abandon using him in center field. That means the righty-hitting Lagares should share duty in center field with Conforto and/or Granderson, if Granderson is the one not traded. http://www.espn.com/blog/new-york/mets/post/_/id/124888/mets-may-trade-curtis-granderson-not-jay-bruce Do we still have interest in obtaining Fowler for CF? I'd have to think so, even if his CF is probably subpar. Probably depends on the market for him, If he's looking to get 4/80, maybe not, but if he starts to drop I oculd see Sandy jumping.
  3. Centerfield wrote: I think they will try to trade Bruce now. Mainly to dump money, but also to get some talent back. I think this will leave them with Granderson/Lagares in CF and Conforto in RF. I think that they would only also look to trade Granderson if they were to sign Dexter Fowler, which I think is not very likely. But I think they should kick the tires. The Cubs are out on Dexter having signed John Jay. I think they only optioned Bruce because they knew he still had some value and it'd be better to have the piece than just cut it. I don't know if they can recoup $13 million of value though. ON the other hand, but keeping Bruce and taking another OFer off the market, they're cornering the market a little bit. You can't hand Conforto anything after last year. I'm not sure you can hand Lagares anything either, though his defense is MUCH needed. If they're really planning on Conforto and/or Granderson (or Yo) in CF ever, they need to sign more K pitchers (and close with Reed if Familia is still active) Or more GB pitchers over fly ball guys.
  4. still plenty of concerns, surely, and it does come down to health a lot. (fantasy advice, take d'Arnaud as a late draft pickup) But Cespedes is an All-Star bat and that keeps the depth chart high. Sure, we'll probably lose an outfielder in trade, but it'll likely bring back something that will help too. Flores and Reyes as the bench infield bats is actually crazy above average I would think. Plus any potential prospects that can help are now a little closer. I still think Duda is the lynchpin, and was last year. He plays 130, the Mets are fine.
  5. Duda is, and will be, a full time player. he's not platooning. Now, if he's not healthy, that's a different story, and one that you don't fill with Flores anyway.

Granderson is also six years older with 2,000 more ML PAs in his rearview. bet he has more in his front view too. Curtis was worth almost 2 fWAR more last year, and it was only close offensively because he had a down year and Bruce had an up year. They're not in the same class, not even with the age factored in.
  7. Well Granderson has 43.9 career fWAR to Bruce's 17.5. Granderson's career wRC+ is 118, Bruce's is 107. If you don't believe in Conforto you can make the case that Bruce should play over him, but not over Granderson under any circumstances. There is literally no place for Bruce on this team that helps them.
  8. I figure most of the rumors and reports right now are mostly maneuvering by either side and don't take much stock in it. I'll start thinking about it more seriously if we start getting through January without a deal.
  9. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Who's the player pictured on this cover? That's Travis d'Arnaud. he's the catcher.

  11. Centerfield wrote: All over twitterverse tonight that Cespedes texted the organization and indicated his desire to return. This is per Sandy. I didn't know you could text the organization as a whole. How do I get this number? Hey Mets, I would like to get a contract offer too. Text me! I mean, yes, of course, this is how negotiations work right? you say "Why yes, this is my first choice I love this place it's so great and a perfect fit" I plan to tell a recruiter just that today!
  12. solid I thought. First movie i've seen in the theaters in a while and I felt old about it after seeing all the tech advances, I'll elaborate on that later. Lots of crazy multi-verse stuff and some inception-like weirdness. I had fun.

Frayed Knot wrote: I seem to have -- based on extremely UN-scientific survey results -- less 'Xs & Os' beefs with Terry than your average NYM fan, and sometimes I think all it takes is a longer exposure to out of town managers (as during playoff series) to make folks realize that all the questions they have about their own guy aren't going to magically disappear if/when he's replaced. That said, I'm not sure I would have guessed that he'd get five 1st and 2nd place votes especially coming in a season where there were three superior teams and one historic one. I guess I just assumed that Maddon was going to take this (and, yes, I realize that it doesn't include post-season) so I was really surprised that he got out-voted 2-1 at the top of the ballot. Cubs were a powerhouse and Mets were decimated by injuries. so Maddon was expected to win 100 games and did, so.. Collins is respected by voters, might be retiring. if the Mets make the playoffs next year expect him to win it.
  14. Centerfield wrote: It's just that he seems pretty bad at the X's and O's, and that is the only real tangible thing we can measure him on. Not disputing 'pretty bad' but I think that level is still comfortably average, if not a tick above. I've found I like his decisions more when he's got good players (even beyond the obvious hey they're good stuff) because he seems to trust guys more to just 'be good'. It's when he tries to force and manufacture that I get annoyed mostly. Of course this stuff is usually a factor of record vs expected record too. for the IBWAA I put Farrell, Francona, Showalter and Collins,Maddon,Mattingly. strong NL East bias
  15. catching instructor. I wonder if we can read into this about the Mets plans for Catcher.
  16. I haven't thought about the Mets payroll in years. It was a fools game even when Alderson was giving 'hints' to it's cap, even more so now.
  17. d'Kong76 wrote: Never been there, on my bb-bucket list. Would be cool to go for a few days this spring and then again in a couple of years to see the before and after. Looks like a lot of it is just updating fields and clubhouses and stuff. Not like they're building a retractable roof. they did recently build up the berm since the last time I was there. I'd like to get back to see that, presumably when the kids are bigger. fun times.
  18. You got a different email than I did, mine was some Mets Insider thing and my code is/was NOAH. I'm gambling that I might be going a different ticket route so I'm cool for now. it's the same page. mets.com/presale http://m.mets.mlb.com/nym/tickets/info/sgt-presale?partnerId=ed-10985486-943476773 should be lots of different links there. each one with a different easily guessable password. (I imagine anyway. Maybe the partners one has something less obvious, like FredWilponIsTheBest) edit: guessed the Social Media one. It's Cabrera.
  19. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Well, yeah. There's no denying that. As someone who was eight years old in 1971, when everyone in the neighborhood revered Tom Seaver, I can say that I'd much prefer it if he wasn't an ass. But we didn't know anything about that then. bet you would've if there was Instagram though. I'm fine with letting players be themselves. I don't need to be friends with them. Harvey's (probably) an arrogant hipster. that's fine. Seaver's a jerk. Doesn't change what I want/get from them in terms of fandom.
  20. Centerfield wrote: I know for most here, the name Seaver is revered. But for me, I never witnessed it. I have faint memories of an aging Seaver in '83, and an unsuccessful comeback in '87. My direct memories are of an unlikeable, annoying announcer who displayed open contempt for modern day players. Same. I get the history and he'll always be 'The Franchise' and all that. It's like if you took Matt Harvey but never saw him pitch any games and he didn't have a World Series ring. I also don't understand thinking Seaver can do no wrong and not liking Matt Harvey. They really seem awfully similar.
  21. d'Kong76 wrote: So was this just a come on to get people to go look at ticket plans? I couldn't find any single-game links on the page I was sent to. no, works fine. follow the link, click on 'mr mets kids club' and enter code 'degrom'
  22. I want no part of Bruce starting for the Mets because he's not good so he's the obvious choice. But I'd probably look to sell high on Granderson even though I really like him. Cespedes, Lagares, and some other guy you sign for RF with Conforto trying to earn a spot and a lefty CF type to backup so we don't have Cespedes playing there. (sign Cespedes obviously) Bruce and Conforto haven't hit enough to be starters out of the gate, so only trading Curtis if we're filling the outfield with others.
  23. I need a moment to compose myself again. Just got all ragey about the Thor ejection.
