Yeah that doesn't carry any weight with me but it's a fun topic to bat around, truthiness aside. If it were going to happen, you'd get some signs of it next year, if/when Wright was on the DL if he stuck around and 'shadowed' Collins. If Klap (or someone else) wants to be a good journalist maybe they should make a point to start asking Wright strategy type questions during the season. Create a series "What would Wright have done?" and use his answers to ponder strategy. I'd read that.
  2. I mean just the fact that catchers can significantly and quantifiably affect the calls advocates to a less subjective method in my opinion.
  3. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/searching-for-this-years-called-balls-on-pitches-down-the-middle/ This posts looks for it and finds 5..but.. spoiler alert, they're actually PITCH f/x errors. Here's some discussion from 2013-2014 that includes some. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/balls-right-down-the-middle-already/ ball: and to balance it out about what you were talking about pleasing others, Gonzalez was freaking pissed about that ball and maybe subconsciously Fagan (the umpire) over-corrected?
  4. Frayed Knot wrote: and no one fails to call a strike on the pitch right down the middle. I'll see if I can find it, but this isn't actually true. Extremely rare obviously, but in cases where the ball still has a lot of break and misses the spot and the catcher isn't expecting it and drops it. Let's see if I can find it.
  5. d'Kong76 wrote: I don't think much happened on the field that will change the non-Mets market climate for Yo. I think outside of us, he has a couple of big fat *'s next to his name for potential suitors. Like last off-season, if someone wants to pay him for a 6-7 year deal at big-big $$'s I'm willing to say god bless and offer a friendly sayonara to the big guy! I don't think that's gonna happen and he'll be a Met next year again. How that happens exactly we'll just have to see. I agree, he both proved himself to be an improving/better hitter than before AND cast some aspersions on his ability to stay healthy and on the field for a long contract.
  6. metsmarathon wrote: gosh.. looking at the vs.lefty splits... how did this team even sniff the playoffs!? they faced like 3 lefties down the stretch. They should've played Kelly Johnson more often in general. Duda also should've been in there.
  7. think I'm pulling for the Cubs, think it'll be fun to watch the best team dominate. Am really fine with any of the AL teams. Between last night and the Chris Heston (chris right?) game I don't know that I can forgive the Giants. screw 'em.

I was actually glad he gave up that first hit, because I hadn't moved in three innings and my legs were starting to cramp. I really had to pee but couldn't decide which half inning was worth sacrificing.

  10. got home around 1, bed by 1:30. Carbon Monoxide detector in the basement beeped three times at around 4:30, which supposedly indicates 'error' and then later started flashing 5 times which sorta means 'end of life'. Just as I got back to bed after assuring myself it was just an error and there was no monoxide (other detector on main floor wasn't going off, and I tested it), the smoke alarm battery decided to start dying. Also I think I have a cold and acid in my throat.
  11. Lefty Specialist wrote: Shit's about to get real, kids. I hope Syndergaard isn't anywhere near as nervous as I am. no reason to be nervous when you're prepared.
  12. I don't sleep well anymore period so.
  13. Edgy MD wrote: I think, if the Mets win THIS GAME, we have to go blond. But it's "blond," man. "Blonde" is, like, feminine. Latvian chicks are blonde. American ballplayers are blond. American Blonde Ale versus Belgian Blond Ale. American Blonde's are typically one step up from like, Bud Light. slightly hoppy light beers. Belgian Blond's are chunkier. More character, closer to 8%. More hops, more malt.
  14. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I'm not purposely going after a Mets Beard this time, but did forget to shave this morning. I haven't shaved since my last trip to Citi Field, where they won 17-0, but that's more out of laziness than anything else. I'll be wearing my jersey/hoodie that I wore to Opening Day and has been in the back of my car waiting to go inside since then. I'm 1-2 in games where the Mets advance to the next round or are eliminated (1999 NLDS game 4, 2006 game 7, 2015 ws game 5) so due to even that up.
  15. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: So Rivera at 2B, Plawecki at 1B? Johnson 2B, Rivera 1B? I suppose the latter more realistic but I wouldn't kill Terry for trying the former. It's gonna be Rivera/Loney unfortunately. I'd like to get Johnson in there.
  16. Nymr83 wrote: 3 catchers for a 1 game series? dumb. there had to be a better hitter than Plawecki to choose from. Nimmo? eh, d'Arnaud is a better (potentially much) hitter than RRivera and a few of those back end bench guys. It's the lack of Duda that's concerning.
  17. Pitchers (9) 39 Blevins, Jerry LHP 40 Colon, Bartolo, RHP 66 Edgin, Josh, LHP 27 Familia, Jeurys, RHP 65 Gsellman, Robert, RHP 43 Reed, Addison, RHP 47 Robles, Hansel, RHP 59 Salas, Fernando, RHP 34 Syndergaard, Noah, RHP Catchers (3) 18 d’Arnaud, Travis 26 Plawecki, Kevin 44 Rivera, Rene Infielders (7) 13 Cabrera, Asdrubal 29 Campbell, Eric 55 Johnson, Kelly 56 Kelly, Ty 28 Loney, James 7 Reyes, Jose 54 Rivera, T.J. 18. Unless something's changed that we don't know about, Duda is the best choice by far and not starting him is probably worse than Buck not using Britton last night.
  19. Zach Britton is an extreme GB pitcher Looking it up: 254 batters faced this season Ks = 74 BB = 18 Ground Balls = 128 Fly Balls = 11 Line Drives = 21 HR = 1 Sac Fly = 0 BAA .162 this kinda understates the GB thing. 161 balls put in play, 128 of them were on the ground. And when the GW HR was hit there was one out w/runners on 1st & 3rd
  20. It wasn't so much that he didn't go right to Britton, but that he NEVER used him. Brach was in with the leadoff double and they walked EE to fight Bautista. spotty, but at least this season you are facing the lesser hitter, so fine. DP set up, and you need a DP and an out or a K and a DP. Brach excellent K rate. that's fine. then you go to O'Day for the DP, which, while fine, is no where near as good as the extreme groundball pitching and elite reliever Britton. And not going to him after that, to go to guys like Duensing and Jimenez? That's real bad.
  21. torn between watching and going to bed since I'll be out late tomorrow.
  22. and the Orioles get the DP without going to their closer and best GB% guy. 10.
  23. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Pre- congrats to the Jays who got a leadoff double in the 9th. and walking EE so now it's 1-2 no outs.
  24. bot 9. tied 2-2. I have sympathy stress for both of them!
  25. I didn't vote for Selig but I probably should've, but.. I mean, he was the commissioner. He'll have his own legacy. Everything about the entire league during his tenure. I'm not sure what specifically putting him in the hall adds.
