  1. Doesn't seem like that's how it went down. if Thor seems to have been commenting on the "Thor fittingly wore a crown last night" and it seems like he was referring to himself.

  3. Duda stays healthy all season.
  4. Centerfield wrote: Didn't Mike Piazza play for Italy once? Or did I make that up. It all seems kinda silly. The rule should be, you take out your passport. Whatever country has issued it is the team you get to represent. managed or coached too. nah, I like that they make an effort to spread out the talent a bit and make it more than like, 4 teams that are worthwhile.

Frayed Knot wrote: Commish Manfred “ — over the last 15 years we have dramatically improved the accuracy and consistency of the strike zone.” What he means is "We can use the human error inherent in umpires to encourage slight changes to the strike zone to greatly influence offense levels league-wide" of course, they could do that with digital too, but there would probably be an approval process/negotiation. Also conflict of interest. if pitchers/MLBPA knew that they wanted to widen the strikezone, pitchers would hold out for a bigger contract next year, knowing their numbers would look better. It's one of the subtle things they can do do influence the game. (adjusting the ball another)
  6. Quintanilla.
  7. MFS62 wrote: If you want to know how really important he is to the Mets, try to find the recent Mets Hots Stove Report Show on SNY. He is VERY important, both on the field and as a clubhouse leader. Based on the discussion on that show, I wouldn't look to trade him. Later Guys that take other guys helmets off after home runs don't grow on trees.
  8. Edgy MD wrote: I tend to think Jones was such an impressive defender in his early 20s that folks didn't appreciate that he faded early and kept winning Gold Gloves well after he deserved them. Of course, I don't know how that factors into JAWS. I don't know how much I suspect about his power being genuine, but it sure disappeared after mandatory testing was installed. Funny how the top three centerfielders on the outside all became Yankees after their legs were shot. I don't think the concept of padding HR numbers in Yankee Stadium is lost on them.
  9. Benjamin Grimm wrote: If Bonds and Clemens get in, I'll never go to Cooperstown again. (I say this knowing that even if they don't get in, I'll probably never go to Cooperstown again anyway.) I kinda feel the opposite, I've lost a lot of desire to go UNTIL they're inducted.
  10. I kinda like Sunday night games from a watching at home perspective. though, 7:30 would be a better start time. We'll see how much my sleep deprived self can manage this year though.
  11. sure, for the right deal. of course, Reyes gets hurt a lot too, Flores can't really play the position well though it makes his bat appear better to play there. (I know we're punting defense mostly but that's probably unwise) It's certainly an area that you probably don't have _too_ much of a drop off if you can get real value for in trade. I'd have to assume there's a limited market for him though, the teams that want a solid SS are the contending type ones, in sort of a swap of positions. Seems like a lot of the Mets targets want more prospects back for the established hitters. And I think 2017 is too important to risk trading him for prospect(s).
  12. I was going to snicker at 'the bible of baseball' but it's actually pretty accurate.
  13. These come out 9/1 and usually there is literally no thought put into it. I think they just pull the first nine mets that come up from googling.
  14. Nymr83 wrote: its really tough because there are multiple angles to this - but lets start with the fact that 99% of us would be OVERJOYED to get 100 days off from work as the only consequence of these allegations - most people would be FIRED. Then again most employers wouldn't likely find out, especially if the court proceedings end in expungement. It's tough. I don't really like the idea that MLB can or should play morality police. Especially for something as murky as this. Reyes and Chapman, yes, Chapman was a violent dangerous maniac, and Reyes' situation, while not as deadly and maybe possibly more heat of the moment than serial abuser, still resulted in a hospital visit and damage, by his own hand. We don't seem super sure what happened with Familia. Where does it end? I mean, does a guy get a speeding ticket and get suspended? or is it only strictly criminal charges? Jason Werth got nothing for reckless driving even though he spent five days in jail. Very little happens for drunk driving arrests.
  15. Gustavo Molina and Justin Ruggiano.
  16. They should take an MRI of Lagares before the season. I think 'sprained' might be the default state for his shoulder.
  17. does it matter who's in monument park? They close it before the game starts and have enough security hurdles to get in that it's hard to get in before the game starts, so it's not like anyone sees it.
  18. MFS62 wrote: I'm suggesting lefty hitting Bruce for righty hitting Ryan Braun, who has three or four more years on his contract (the next 2 @ 20 million). Fill in with AAAA types on both sides. Then the Mets trade Granderson for the help/ prospects needed to offset the budget bulge. Later Braun had almost the same wRC+ (weighted runs created) as Cespedes. That'd be a steal.
  19. Mostly crap, but I went with 'gimme five' just for the well-positioned photo. I think that shows more thought than any of the others.
  20. personally I hate it. it's 95% rumors, fluff, public negotiations and spin, and some of the beat-guy interactions feel vaguely voyeuristic and annoying.
  21. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: I think you guys have an outsized opinion of the trade value of thirtysomething, um, offense-forward outfielders with market-rate salaries. A good reliever under multiple years of team control is about the roof for one of these guys. Any team trading for one of our corner outfielders is not going to give up a younger, talented outfielder for him. no, but they might give up a single A type prospect that they've soured on but the Mets like. feel like there are probably at least a dozen of those guys out there. You can find and make talented relievers out of thin air practically, not worth weakened the team by trading Granderson for that. Bruce yes, Curtis no.
  22. Mex17 wrote: Also: It's Flores. I was thinking about the "next man up" after Flores. What if Flores (or Duda) gets hurt earlier in the season and they feel that they don't want to call up Smith yet because he does not yet have enough ABs in AAA? Well, I wouldn't want to play Flores there full time because he's not particularly good enough, so I'd more look to find a righty-masher type that can platoon with him in the meantime if Lucas needs some DL time, but otherwise just rest him against some lefties to get Flores some AB. You're not going to have an adequate replacement when one of your big bats goes down,so we're going to be in trouble no matter what AAA guy we stash there to play first occasionally if we have to call on him.
  23. I'm sure there will be someone that plays 1B in Vegas that can hit right-handed. At least as well as Soup 'hit'. Also: It's Flores.
  24. Frayed Knot wrote: The idea behind it is so as to reduce those situations where players are in a holding pattern for 4 or 5 days waiting to see whether or not their 'Day to Day' condition will actually require the full 15. Making 10 the minimum should do away with at least some of those. I suspect this was a sort-of compromise to the 26th man on the roster idea. Not more players but maybe more available ones. Theoretically it should lessen players being 'forced' to play through nagging injuries. if it's gonna take a few days, you're not losing as much to a DL stint. ASG home field advantage is WAY BETTER than tying it to a system that gives the advantage to the AL. At least that was basically random.
