  1. I don't care much about pace of game stuff because I think that arguments fraught with peril anyway, but I'd prefer they change this rule so that catchers cannot leave the box except to chase a pitch. This means IBB must happen within a catcher's reach and therefore within a batter's reach and also means more risk for wild pitches when attempting it. It was always a subversion of the rules anyway, in that there is no such thing as an intentional walk, they're just throwing pitches super far outside and the catcher is allowed to leave the box, and the crouch, once a pitch is thrown.

He made his bones doing a (terrible) crime story while he was still in school. I somehow missed this (I don't even remember Seger either) which probably doesn't bode well for him adding anything of value, but I followed him and Abbey, which means I'm +2 beat 'guys' which I'm sure will annoy me when they all tweet the same stuff so I'm sure at least one will get the axe by May

  7. will you update the top with all of them so they're in one place? Fangraphs, as of this morning, as the Mets tied with the Cardinals for second wild card at 84-78. (6 games out) http://www.fangraphs.com/depthcharts.aspx?position=Standings#NL-E

An entire stadium held its breath for a split-second and then exploded. Incredible. The only people that didn't hold their breath for a split-second that day were those of us in the waydafuckupthere seats in the RF corner upper deck because that angle gave you a knife-edge view along the entire length of the RCF wall thus allowing those sections to immediately see the ball bouncing around underneath the scoreboard. So rather than having to wait for Finley to check his glove then do the shoulder-slump thing, we knew Finley didn't catch the ball before Finley knew that Finley didn't catch it. We also has a several second jump on Pratt knowing (he was still standing and staring after I celebrated then turned towards the IF) and, upon listening to the radio replay on the way home, it was obvious that we knew before Gary as well. The cheers definitely moved around the stadium day, best wave ever. I remember cheering (uppers behind home somewhere) before I could tell Finley didn't catch it. I remember remarking "I guess he didn't catch it". We were the farthest people from it after all. Was the best game I'd been to in my life to that point, though that only lasted about a week.
  10. my first game was 1987. 8/20/87. I don't remember much from it, really anything, but I remember my father following in a large group of people that had handed their ticket to the usher so he could preserve the entire ticket and not just the stub.

  12. yay! streaming available via the NBC Sports app (not yet) for SNY anywhere in the US as long as you have a cable account that gets SNY. So I can watch in my kitchen! in the bathroom! in the car on the way to work! No word yet if it'll allow multiple logins (i.e. can I give you my account info and you can stream it while I stream it?) but either way if you have say a relative or friend in NY that's not a Mets fan and wouldn't mind sharing their login, you could cut the cord even easier!
  13. Centerfield wrote: If you're going to suspend for drunk and disorderly conduct you are going to end up suspending half the league. And most of the fans. Some tipsy guy was even rumored to have run into Fran Healy while walking out of Shea Stadium and telling him, despite years of complaining about him, that he was the best announcer in the world. well, one's that get the police called and such probably cuts that down a bunch.
  14. I think they should just suspend him for 'drunk and disorderly conduct' and make up some b.s. about representing the game/league/etc. Less murky that way. Chapman fired a gun outside his house. that definitely warrants punishment. I don't know what the laws are in his neck of the woods but I'd really hope firing shots in anger in public are not acceptable things.
  15. Edgy MD wrote: That may be part of the issue. Aroldis Chapman and (I think) José Reyes agreed to their suspensions despite the lack of cooperation from a complainant/victim. Perhaps Familia isn't being as accommodating, which puts them in the position of wondering how much authority they have to rule outright. I feel like we'd hear about that though. I think they dragged their feet a while on Reyes too, people just assumed it was because the policy was new and they were debating.
  16. Benjamin Grimm wrote: So when are we going to find out if Familia is suspended, and for how long? The criminal case was dismissed a while ago. The commissioner's office really needs to get this settled so the Mets can know how their bullpen will be affected for the 2017 season. yeah, the league really needs to codify this better with better timelines. It's only a matter of time before someone actually fights the suspension (although the Union might be spineless in regards to this stuff) on the grounds that "I literally did nothing wrong it's all a misunderstanding you have no right to suspend me that violates the terms of our contract and I'm now a free agent fuck you"
  17. why not?

Evan Roberts of WFAN, who looks terrible, was IMO just performing schtick and not actually answering questions. I maintain the organizers need to find a way to reduce admission prices (take a cut of the food and drinks or soemthing!) and would hope they could avoid scheduling it against "SABR Day." I'll mention that though they didn't really make any money and didn't sell out, so I'm not sure the best way to do that. The signings/stars are clearly the draw and those are expensive. That's not true, I/they DO know how to do that but it's not up to them. The Mets could 'assign'/give/front the money for an Alumni or a current player or something. Or they could front/comp the cost of using the Ceasars/Foxwoods club as the location. Or hell, they could take notes and just let these guys/us run the damn fanfest and make it official. I don't know the story with Evan, I meant to ask. He was a 'mystery' guest but i feel like his promotion would've sold some tickets? Probably something WOR related. I thought he had the most reasonable take on the stuff actually, but I don't particularly agree with Rubin or Cerrone's viewpoints on things. The Uniwatch panel, as usual, ran long. ;-)
  19. audio of all the panels. Listen to the Bobby Valentine one, he's got good stories. Bobby Valentine to umpire: "Can I get thrown out for what I'm thinking?" Umpire: "No" Valentine: "So I told him what I was thinking"
  20. Personally I prefer one big thread of 'hey, look at this' stuff that doens't really need it's own discussion, but they rarely seem tostick around.
  21. As they're "news"paper covers I tend to vote towards which ones delivers the best story. Not the content of said story but just the "picture is worth a thousand words" type. Seeds of Life, with the double meaning about David Wright and prospects of the team for 2016 and the joy associated with it as they're all ensconced in a storm of these seeds that would maybe bloom into a fantastic season for Wright and the Mets is so deep that I'm pretty sure most of it was unintentional.

Thanks, I'll let you know if/when. I'd be pretty surprised if the baby isn't here by then, but maybe everyone will be happily asleep at 9? yes. I'll email blast more about that after today's keeper deadline. Looks like we're at 10/12 still need to renew, including me.
