  1. preston's one not so much of a monster.
  2. that was a MONSTER
  3. agh, back to back singles against Glavine. Me no likey.
  4. I love pitchers having 8 pitch at bats.
  5. really crappy loss. I went to bed at the rain delay but I had a bad feeling that it was going to end up like that. I do worry that they've entered into too much of a comfort zone though but I'm probably a bit paranoid about that. I'm much more worried that the lead getting shrunk to 4/5 games might make Omar go L.O.O.P.Y. and pony up something of value for Livian Hernandez.
  6. well Nady & Owens/Bell type might be an interesting price to pay for Freel.
  7. greetings all - i'll post some pics of the wedding later ..... but to matters at hand ... Ty Wigginton Games 83 Plate Apperances 306 OBP .299 SLG .454 OPS .753 ... Wiggy actually dipped below .750 from June 28th till July 3rd but then he went 4-6 with 3 homers over two nights. Looks like this one will go to the wire!
  8. don't forget we've got 9 interleague games at AL parks starting on 23rd June.
  9. seriously folks, it won't be hard to get 4 of's decent playing time especially with both Cliff & Carlos' tendancies to get a bit banged up). Endy Chavez has had over 100 abs so far this season; putting on pace for over 300. Why don't we just let Lastings get most of them? I see no problem floyd having the odd 4 day week.
  10. outside of the 40 man roster guys AAA & AA really is a bit of a wasteland at the moment isn't it
  11. seriously dude. we had 3 of the 4 people in this trade in action over the weekend. needs an update bad.
  12. well we'll see where he ends up Sal despite his current tear (5-11) his OPS for may is still below .700. I think the most positive sign for wiggy is that he has had the big slump, started to hit again and his ops has started to go back up.
  13. Julio's been pitching MUCH better and he's starting to become a valuable 4th/5th man in a pen. He's only given up 2 er's in this month and while his WHIP has still been in the 1.5 department he hasn't given up a dinger either, so you have to give him a run in two innings again the yankees.
  14. Rockin' Doc wrote: Tom Seaver gave a brief interview to Mike and Mike In the Morning on ESPN radio this morning. I was a little surprised by his answer when asked what active pitchers he really enjoyed watching work. "Jason Schmidt. I really like watching him pitch. I like to watch guys that are aggressive. I like to see guys work both sides of the plate and pitch inside. I really like to watch Greg Maddux and Tom Glavine. He's not pitching right now, but I always liked to watch Roger Clemens"* It appears that most of the pitchers Seaver cited this morning do not exemplify the attributes of pitching inside and being aggressive. Roger Clemens has definitely been willing to do so throughout his career. I guess Jason Schmidt may fit that role as well, but Greg Maddux and Tom Glavine? Wouldn't Pedro Martinez, Randy Johnson, and Curt Schilling better exemplify aggressive pitchers that are willing to pitch inside. *Going from memory so this is not an exact quote, but pretty close. I could be wrong, but was there not a whole Leo Mazzone thing about "First Pitch Strike" which might explain the Maddux & Glavine 'agressive' thing; especially when you combine it with 'working both sides of the plate' which they definitely do. He may mean being agressive in chasing the out, rather then in pursuing the hitters head.
  15. in related 2b men bets myself ands sal's was about Ty Wigginton, whom I predicted would finish with an OPS of .750 or less if he got at least 450abs/475 pas Ty Wigginton 156 abs, .296 OBP, .481 SLG OPS: .777
  16. y'know i hear where you're coming from on that but the advantage that the mets have as a large market team is that they can take risks during the season where the cost of acquisition is primarily $ whereas other teams may need to expend talent due to budgetary constraints. I accept that it's a risk; I suppose I just feel that it's a $ gamble I'd be willing to make; in that the 3/4 wins above replacement a 'good' Odalis Perez could be worth to you has huge marginal value in a division which is going to be extremely tight. I think a bit depends on how much (if any) $ LA are prepared to eat, but if you said 'have him paying 60% of his this years salary and look after the rest yourself I'd be thinking about it.
  17. yeah in every start he got some tough breaks which had little to do with his pitching ... BUT it's not like he was on the cusp of a no-hitter only to have it snatched away by a bunt single or anything. I think Heillman's gotta be put in. He can get stretched out over this weekend by going for multiple innings rather then not; lord knows we're going to need someone to replace Gonzalez after a couple of IP. Bring him in as long man 2/3 times between and next saturday. The reason I can't get over this is that they're acting like Bannister & Maine are basically locks to be good major league starters. That's just not the case. By the way, i'd be well up for Odalis Perez - who could definitely be had for pennies on the $ seeing as he's getting starter money. My only fear is that they'll be a little scared of getting Kaz Ishii part 2.
  18. nothing to see here.
  19. You're 33, have earned over $25 million but right now you could be about to get your last go and the major league merry go round. http://www.baseball-reference.com/l/limajo01.shtml You've a reputation as a big time charlie; but all that falls apart if nobody'll give you a job. Hell your wife may not even think you're so great anymore, singing sensation or not. First time round you'd some control issues, but were definitely given a really tough time by a home plate umpire - your catcher getting thrown out (leading to you conceding a run too) didn't help but "maybe" you still had game. Second time round, you did much better at the start; giving up just one run by the 4th inning but then came the 5th. That wasn't fun was it. Maybe it wasn't just the umpire, maybe it's just too easy for rookie 1b men to pound your not so fastball over the fence in centre field. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/playbyplay?gameId=260512108

The idea - assuming he doesn't get his simulated ass kicked or re-aggravate his simulated hamstring - is to have him ready for one of the Yanqui games next week, presumably the Saturday game: Pedro - Bannister - Glavine. I suppose whoever looks better out of this Lima/Gonzalez duo gets the Thursday start at StL. btw, Bell down in favor of Gonzalez -- no word on what 40-man move they'll make in order to promote Jeremi. "Mets recalled RHP Bartolome Fortunato from Triple-A Norfolk and placed him on the 60-day disabled list with a torn UCL in his right elbow. Fortunato, who spent three days with the Mets earlier this month, will undergo Tommy John surgery and miss the rest of the year. He'll probably be removed from the 40-man roster right after the season ends. Ma"
  21. anyone else having problems getting to mlb.tv?
  22. any word on who's been bumped off the 40 for Gonzalez?
  23. if Reyes could just get the OBP up to .350 he'd start to become REALLY valuable. I think we have to look on his development so far this year as extremely encouraging. The OBP being at .330 with a .267 average is really encouraging - as is the fact that he's showing a little more power too.
  24. i think it sounds great.
  25. HahnSolo wrote: I didn't see a lot of this game, but I was in the car for the 9th inning, and later saw the replays. Two questions: - Strike 3 on Matsui. From the replay it looked a little high, but clearly too close to take. Was the ump calling the high strike all game? I should note that on the radio Howie did not make a big deal about it being a bad call, I think he just said it was up in the zone. I didn't see this ... BUT the umpires strike zone was ALL OVER the place during the game. It was absolutely shocking.
